The vibration analysis of an elastic container with partially filled fluid was investigated in this paper. The container is made of a thin cylinder and two circular plates at the ends. The axis of the cylinder is in the horizontal direction. It is difficult to solve this problem because the complex system is not axially symmetric. The equations of motion for this system were derived. An incompressible and ideal fluid model is used in the present work. Solutions of the equations were obtained by the generalized variational method. The solution was expressed in a series of normalized generalized Fourier's functions. This series converged rapidly, and so its approximate solution was obtained with high precision. The agreement of the calculated values with the experimental result is good. It should be mentioned that with our method, the computer time is less than that with the finite-element method.

A regular perturbation technique is suggested to deal with the problem of one dimensional stress wave propagation in viscoelastic media with damage. Based upon the first order asymptotic solution obtained, the characteristics of wave attenuation are studied. In fact, there exist three different time-dependent phenomena featuring the dynamic response of the materials, the first expressing the characteristics of wave propagation, the second indicating the innate effect of visco-elastic matrix and the third coming from the time dependent damage. The comparision of first order asymptotic solution with the numerical results calculated by a finite difference procedure shows that the perturbation expansion technique may offer a useful approach to the problem concerned.

Tension Leg Platform (TLP) is a typical compliant offshore structure for oil exploitation in deep water. Most of the existing mathematical models for analyzing the dynamic response of TLP are based on explicit or implicit assumptions that displacements (translations and rotations) are small magnitude. Herein a theoretical method for analyzing the nonlinear dynamic behavior of TLP with finite displacement is developed, in which multifold nonlinearities are taken into account, i.e. finite displacement, coupling of the six degrees of freedom, instantaneous position, instantaneous wet surface, free surface effects and viscous drag force. Using this theoretical model, we perform the numerical analysis of dynamic response of a representative TLP. The comparison between the degenerative linear solution of the proposed nonlinear model and the published one shows good agreements. Furthermore, numerical results are presented which illustrate that nonlinearities exert a distinct influence on the dynamic responses of the TLP.

A full two-fluid model of reacting gas-particle flows with an algebraic unified second-order moment (AUSM) turbulence-chemistry model is used to simulate Beijing coal combustion and NOx formation. The sub-models are the k-epsilon-kp two-phase turbulence model, the EBU-Arrhenius volatile and CO combustion model, the six-flux radiation model, coal devolatilization model and char combustion model. The blocking effect on NOx formation is discussed. In addition, the chemical equilibrium analysis is used to predict NOx concentration at different temperature. Results of CID simulation and chemical equilibrium analysis show that, optimizing air dynamic parameters can delay the NOx formation and decrease NOx emission, but it is effective only in a restricted range. In order to decrease NOx emission near to zero, the re-burning or other chemical methods must be used.

This paper investigates the effects of structure parameters on dynamic responses of submerged floating tunnel (SFT) under hydrodynamic loads. The structure parameters includes buoyancy-weight ratio (BWR), stiffness coefficients of the cable systems, tunnel net buoyancy and tunnel length. First, the importance of structural damp in relation to the dynamic responses of SFT is demonstrated and the mechanism of structural damp effect is discussed. Thereafter, the fundamental structure parameters are investigated through the analysis of SFT dynamic responses under hydrodynamic loads. The results indicate that the BWR of SFT is a key structure parameter. When BWR is 1.2, there is a remarkable trend change in the vertical dynamic response of SFT under hydrodynamic loads. The results also indicate that the ratio of the tunnel net buoyancy to the cable stiffness coefficient is not a characteristic factor affecting the dynamic responses of SFT under hydrodynamic loads.

The static and dynamic instabilities of a torsional MEMS/NEMS actuator caused by capillary effects are studied, respectively. An instability number, eta, is defined, and the critical gap distance, g(cr), between the mainplate and the substrate is derived. According to the values of eta and g, the instability criteria of the actuator are presented. The dimensionless motion equation of the MEMS/NEMS torsional actuator is derived when it makes nonlinear oscillation under capillary force. The qualitative analysis of the nonlinear equation is made, and the phase portraits are presented on the phase plane. In addition, the bifurcation phenomena in the system are also analyzed. The slack-taut state of tether is a particular Averse circumstance, which may influence the normal operation stale of tension leg platform (TLP). The dynamic responses of TLP with slack-taut tether are studied with consideration of several nonlinear factors introduced by large amplitude motions. The time histories of stresses of tethers of a typical TLP in slack-taut state are given. In addition, the sensitivities of slack to stiffness and mass are investigated by varying file stiffness of tether and mass of TLP. It is found that slack is sensitive to the mass of TLP. The critical culled surfaces (over which indicates the slack) for the increase of mass are obtained.

The quantitative phase-mapping of the domain nucleation in MgO:LiNbO3 crystals is presented by using the digital holographic interferometry. An unexpected peak phase at the beginning of the domain nucleation is observed and it is lowered as the spreading of the domain nucleus. The existence of the nucleus changes the moving speed of the domain wall by pinning it for 3s. Such in-situ quantitative analysis of the domain nucleation process is a key to optimizing domain structure fabrication.

The paper comprehensively analyzes the distortions of a circular wedge prism with 400 mm diameter in a scanner by method of optical-mechanical-thermal integrating analysis. The structure and intensity of the prism assembly is verified and checked, and the surface deformations of the prism under gravity load, as well as the thermo-elastic distortions of the prism, are analyzed in detail and evaluated, which is finally contrasted with the measured values of Zygo Mark interferometer. The results show: the maximal distortion of the prism assembly is 10 nm magnitude and the maximal stress is 0.441 Mpa, which has much tolerance to the precision requirement of structure and the admissible stress of material; the influence of heat effect on the surface deformations of prism is proved to be far greater than the influence of gravity load, so some strict temperature-controlled measures are to be considered when the scanner is used. Our study of a novel technique for adaptive image sequence coding is reported. The number of reference frames and the intervals between them are adjusted to improve the temporal compensability of the input video. The bits are distributed more efficiently on different frame types according to temporal and spatial complexity of the image scene. Experimental results show that this dynamic group-of-picture (GOP) structure coding scheme is not only feasible but also better than the conventional fixed GOP method in terms of perceptual quality and SNR. Fast moving arrays of periodic sub-diffraction-limit pits were dynamically read out via a silver thin film. The mechanism of the dynamic readout is analysed and discussed in detail, both experimentally and theoretically. The analysis and experiment show that, in the course of readout, surface plasmons can be excited at the silver/air interface by the focused laser beam and amplified by the silver thin film. The surface plasmons are transmitted into the substrate/silver interface with a large enhancement. The surface waves at the substrate/silver interface are scattered by the sinusoidal pits of sub-diffraction-limit size. The scattered waves are collected by a converging lens and guided into the detector for the readout.

An interesting fluorescence intensity reverse photonic phenomenon between red and green fluorescence is investigated. The dynamic range. of intensity reverse between red and green fluorescence of Er( 0.5) Yb( 3): FOV oxyfluoride nanophase vitroceramics, when excited by 378.5nm and 522.5nm light respectively, is about 4.32 x 10(2). It is calculated that the phonon- assistant energy transfer rate of the electric multi- dipole interaction of {(4)G(11/2)( Er3+) -> F-4(9/2)( Er3+), F-2(7/2)( Yb3+). F-2(5/2)( Yb3+)} energy transfer of Er( 0.5) Yb( 3): FOV is around 1.380 x 10(8) s(-1), which is much larger than the relative multiphonon nonradiative relaxation rates 3.20 x 10(5) s(-1). That energy transfer rate for general material with same rare earth ion's concentration is about 1.194 x 10(5) s(-1). These are the reason to emerge the unusual intensity reverse phenomenon in Er( 0.5) Yb( 3): FOV. (C) 2007 Optical Society of America.

The chemokine receptor CCR5 is the receptor for several chemokines and major coreceptor for R5 human immunodeficiency virus type-1 strains entry into cell. Three-dimensional models of CCR5 were built by using homology modeling approach and 1 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, because studies of site-directed mutagenesis and chimeric receptors have indicated that the N-terminus (Nt) and extracellular loops (ECLs) of CCR5 are important for ligands binding and viral fusion and entry, special attention was focused on disulfide bond function, conformational flexibility, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interactions, and solvent-accessible surface area of Nt and ECLs of this protein part. We found that the extracellular segments of CCR5 formed a well-packet globular domain with complex interactions occurred between them in a majority of time of MID simulation, but Nt region could protrude from this domain sometimes. The disulfide bond Cys20-Cys269 is essential in controlling specific orientation of Nt region and maintaining conformational integrity of extracellular domain. RMS comparison analysis between conformers revealed the ECL1 of CCR5 stays relative rigid, whereas the ECL2 and Nt are rather flexible. Solvent-accessible surface area calculations indicated that the charged residues within Nt and ECL2 are often exposed to solvent. Integrating these results with available experimental data, a two-step gp120-CCR5 binding mechanism was proposed. The dynamic interaction of CCR5 extracellular domain with gp120 was emphasized.
