An improved axisymmetric mathematic modeling is proposed for the process of hydrate dissociation by depressurization around vertical well. To reckon in the effect of latent heat of gas hydrate at the decomposition front, the energy balance equation is employed. The semi-analytic solutions for temperature and pressure fields are obtained by using Boltzmann-transformation. The location of decomposition front is determined by solving initial value problem for system of ordinary differential equations. The distributions of pressure and temperature along horizontal radiate in the reservoir are calculated. The numeric results indicate that the moving speed of decomposition front is sensitively dependent on the well pressure and the sediment permeability. Copyright (C) 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Argon gas with simple atomic structure and favorite arcing stability at low input power was used as the propellant. The thruster with a regeneratively cooled nozzle were tested in a vacuum system capable of keeping the chamber pressure at about 10 Pa at a propellant feeding rate of 5 slm. Arc current, arc voltage, thrust, nozzle temperature and propellant feeding rate were measured in situ simultaneously. Effects of the working parameters such as the propellant feeding rate and arc current on the thruster performances, mainly the produced thrust, specific impulse and thrust efficiency, were examined. The variation of arc volt-ampere characteristics with running time and the effect of nozzle temperature on thruster property are discussed.

A series of novel temperature- and pH-responsive graft copolymers, poly(L-glutamic acid)-g-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), were synthesized by coupling amino-semitelechelic poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) with N-hydroxysuccinimide-activated poly(L-glutamic acid). The graft copolymers and their precursors were characterized, by ESI-FTICR Mass Spectrum, intrinsic viscosity measurements and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR). The phase-transition and aggregation behaviors of the graft copolymers in aqueous solutions were investigated by the turbidity measurements and dynamic laser scattering.

The cloud-point temperatures (T-c1's) of ti-ans-decahydronaphthalene (TD)/polystyrene (PS, M-w = 270 kg/mol) solutions were determined by fight scattering measurements over a range of temperatures (1-16 degreesC), pressures (100-900 bar), and compositions (4.2-21.6 vol% polymer). The system phase separates upon cooling and the T-c1 was found to increase with the rising pressure for the constant composition. In the absence of special effects this finding indicates positive excess volumes. The special attention was paid to the demixing temperatures as a function of the pressure for the different polymer solutions and the plots in the T-volume fraction plane and P-volume fraction plane. The cloud-point curves of polymer solutions under changing pressures were observed for different compositions, demonstrates that the TD/PS system exhibits UCST (phase separation upon cooling) behavior. With this data the phase diagrams under pressure were calculated applying the Sanchez-Lacombe (SL) lattice fluid theory. Furthermore, the cause of phase separation, i.e., the influence of Flory-Huggins (FH) interaction parameter under pressure was investigated.

To study the brittle-ductile transition (BDT) of polypropylene (PP)/ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) blends induced by size, temperature, and time, the toughness of the PP/EPDM blends was investigated over wide ranges of EPDM content, temperature, and strain rate. The toughness of the blends was determined from the tensile fracture energy of the side-edge notched samples. The concept of interparticle distance (ID) was introduced into this study to probe the size effect on the BDT of PP/EPDM blends, whereas the effect of time corresponded to that of strain rate. The BDT induced by size, temperature, and time was observed in the fracture energy versus ID, temperature, and strain rate. The critical BDT temperatures for various EPDM contents at different initial strain rates were obtained from these transitions. The critical interparticle distance (IDc) increased nonlinearly with increasing temperature, and when the initial strain rate was lower, the IDc was larger. Moreover, the variation of the reciprocal of the initial strain rate with the reciprocal of temperature followed different straight lines for various EPDM contents. These straight lines were with the same slope.

A high temperature and high pressure method was used to efficiently and selectively extract metallofullerenes Ln(m)@C-2n,(Ln = Y, Gd, Tb) in a closed stainless steel autoclave under inert gas protection. 1, 2, 3-Trichlorobenzene was found to be more effective and selective for the extraction of Ln@C-82 (Ln=Y, Gd, Tb) from empty fullerenes and other metallofullerene species.

The nature of the emission centers and the valence change of Eu2+ in KCaF3:Eu2+ depends strongly on preparation conditions. Experimental results show that there are two different d-->f emission bands, located at 425 and 510 nm, respectively. Their origin, relationship, and the effect of doping concentration on them are discussed. A Eu2+-Eu3+ valence change process is proposed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

The traditional Soxhlet extraction of lanthanofullerenes was improved and the high temperature and high pressure method with different extraction solvents was used. It's found that La@C-2n can be efficiently extracted with toluene and pyridine from the insoluble part of the soot after the toluene Soxhlet extraction. Pyridine can more efficiently and selectively extract lanthofullerenes, especially La@C-82, while toluene can extract La@C-74, which is a new member added to the soluble species to lanthanofullerenes.
