Sulfated alumina (SA) is firstly found to be an effective support for Pd catalyst used in the SCR of NO with methane. The sulfation is important to increase support's acidity which is essential for the reduction of NO over Pd catalysts. On consideration of the lower cost and easier availability of SA, we believe that SA is more promising to act as the commercial support for Pd catalyst used in the SCR of NO with methane.

Pd modified AlPO-11 and SAPO-5, 11, 34 were used in the direct transformation of n-butane to isobutene. The effect of acidity and porous structure on the supported Pd and the catalytic perfori-nance were discussed. For higher isobutene selectivity, some metals, such as Ti, Fe, Mg, Co and Mn, was incorporated into AlPO-11 framework and isobutene selectivity of 34.86% can be obtained over Pd/MnAPO-11. A combined catalyst system was used for a further improvement of the isobutene selectivity.

The hydrodehalogenation of aromatic halides, catalyzed by Pd/C in aqueous solutions, yields arenes in short reaction times at room temperature under normal pressure. The nature of the solvents has an important influence on the reaction rates and the activity of the catalyst. The catalyst shows the highest activity in water. In the hydrodechlorination of 4-chlorohypnone, it was in water that C-Cl bond was easier to be hydrogenated, and in isopropanol that C=O was easier to be hydrogenated. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. Some novel ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands with central and planar chirality were prepared from (R,S-p)-PPFNH2-R 3 and its diastereomer (S,S-p)-PPFNH2 3a. The efficiency and diastereomeric impact of these ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands in the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution was examined, and up to 96% e.e. with 98% yield was achieved by the use of ligand (R,S-p)-4a with a methyl group in the amidino moiety. The results also indicated that (R)-central chirality and (S-p)-planar chirality in these ferrocenylphosphine-amidine ligands were matched for the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation.
