作者于1984、1987和1988年对长江三峡地区的原生动物区系组成和生态分布进行了调查。从奉节下至宜昌的峡区共鉴定了320种原生动物,包括鞭毛虫(无色植鞭虫和动鞭毛虫)40种、肉足虫87种和纤毛虫193种。其中有2新种、4新亚种和87种新记录。峡区原生动物绝大部分可在我国其它地区存在,无地理分布差异。根据出现率的高低分析,主要优势种是珍珠映毛虫、钩刺斜管虫、瞬目膜袋虫和小轮毛虫,以第一优势种珍珠映毛虫为代表的成分反映了亚热带特征,代表了东洋界的地理成分。宜昌干流及支流的种类最多,后者为其它江段支流的2.

本文总结了武汉东湖水体中磷含量(均以PO_4计算)的周年逐月季节和年际变动及其分布上的差异(1973—1985年)。按面积加权法计算总磷的平均含量为0.244毫克/升(1983—1985年),总溶解磷和溶解活性磷的平均含量分别为0.121毫克/升和0.051毫克/升(1981—1984年)。总磷和总溶解磷周年中出现两次高峰含量,即春季(3—5月)和夏末秋初(8—9月)。低含量出现在水温最低的冬季(12—2月)。周年中溶解活性磷高峰含量出现在冬末春初(1—3月),低含量多数出现在春末夏初(5—7月)。东湖水

采用分光光度法和淀粉凝胶电泳法初步研究了鲮鱼冷休克前后脑乙酰胆碱酯酶(AchE)活力和三种酶的同工酶类的动态变化。并根据鲮鱼在冷休克期间(7—6℃)脑AchE活力显著降低和肝脏组织乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)同工酶活性明显升高以及苹果酸脱氢酶(MDH)、酯酶(EST)同工酶类出现酶活性变化的情况,讨论了导致鲮鱼耐寒能力差的某些生化因素。同时提出脑AchE可以作为评定鲮鱼冷休克期间中枢神经系统受害程度的一种生化指标。

Objective To investigate the hispathological characteristics and antioxidant responses in liver of silver carp after intraperitoneal administration of microcystins (MCs) for further understanding hepatic intoxication and antioxidation mechanism in fish. Methods Phytoplanktivorous silver carp was injected intraperitoneally (i.p.) with extracted hepatotoxic microcystins (mainly MC-RR and -LR) at a dose of 1000 mu g MC-LReq./kg body weight, and liver histopathological changes and antioxidant responses were studied at 1, 3, 12, 24, and 48 h, respectively, after injection. Results The damage to liver structure and the activities of hepatic antioxidant enzymes including catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxide (GPX) were increased in a time-dependent manner. Conclusion In terms of clinical and histological signs of intoxication and LD50 (i.p.) dose of MC-LR, silver carp appears rather resistant to MCs exposure than other fishes. Also, the significantly increased SOD activity in the liver of silver carp suggests a higher degree of response to MCs exposure than CAT and GPX.

Previous studies on diurnal photosynthesis of macroalgal species have shown that at similar levels of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 400-700nm) the photosynthetic rate is lower in the afternoon than in the morning. However, the impacts of solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR, 280-400nm) have been little considered. We investigated the diurnal photosynthetic behaviour of the economically significant red alga Gracilaria lemaneiformis in the absence or presence of UV-A+B or UV-B with a flow-through system. While UV-A and UV-B, respectively, inhibited noontime Pmax by 22% and 14% on the sunny days, UV-A during sunrise (PAR below about 50Wm-2) increased the net photosynthesis by about 8% when compared with PAR alone. UV-A + PAR also resulted in higher apparent photosynthetic efficiency in the morning than in the afternoon period than PAR alone. Nevertheless, integrated daytime photosynthetic production under solar PAR alone was higher than with either PAR + UV-A+B or PAR + UV-A. Relative growth rate in the long term (9 days) matched the integrated photosynthetic production in that UV-A led to 9-15% and UV-B to 19-22% reduction, respectively. UV-absorbing compounds were found to be higher in the thalli exposed to PAR+UV-A+B than under PAR alone, reflecting a protective response to UVR.

This Study was conducted in Lake Dongtinghu, a large river-connected lake on the Yangtze River flood-plain, China. Our goal was to determine trophic relationships among benthic macroinvertebrates, as well as the effects of flood disturbance on the benthic food web of a river-connected lake. Macroinvertebrates in the lake fed mainly on detritus and plankton (both zooplankton and phytoplankton). Food web Structure in Lake Dongtinghu was characterized by molluscs as the dominant group, low connectance, high level of omnivory. based oil detritus and primary production, and most ingestion concentrating on a few links. Our analyses showed that flood disturbance is an important factor affecting the benthic food web in Lake Dongtinghu. The numbers of species and functional feeding groups (FFGs), and the density and biomass of macroinvertebrates decreased significantly during flooding. Connectance was higher during the flood season than in other seasons, indicating that floods have a strong effect on connectance in this Yangtze River-connected lake. Flood effects on the benthic web were also evident in the decrease of niche overlaps within and anion, FFGs. Our results provide useful information regarding biodiversity conservation on the Yangtze floodplain. Reconstructing and maintaining natural and regular flow regimes between Yangtze lakes and the river is essential for restoration of macroinvertebrates on the floodplain.

In order to explore the temporal impacts of a small dam on riverine zooplankton, monthly samples were conducted from November 2005 to June 2006 in a reach of Xiangxi River, China, which is affected by a small hydropower plant. A total of 56 taxa of zooplankton were recorded during the study and rotifers were the most abundant group, accounting for 97% of total taxa, while the others were copepod nauplii and copepod adults. This study indicated that: (1) the small dam in the Xiangxi River study area created distinct physical and ecological conditions relative to free-flowing lotic reaches despite the constrained channel and small size of the dam; (2) the existence of the plant's small dam had a significant effect on the zooplankton community. In long periods of drought or dry seasons the effect of the dam on potamoplankton was more pronounced (e.g., November, February, March, and May). But the downfall or the connectivity of channel appeared to decrease the effect of small hydropower plants on riverine zooplankton (e.g., April). The present observation underscores the need for additional studies that provide more basic data on riverine zooplankton communities and quantify ecological responses to dam construction over longer time spans.

To collect information about the genetic diversity of the plankton community and to study how plankton respond to environmental conditions, plankton samples were collected from five stations representing different trophic levels in a shallow, eutrophic lake (Lake Donghu), and investigated by PCR-DGGE fingerprinting. A total of 100 bands (61 of 16S rDNA bands and 39 of 18S rDNA bands) were detected. The DGGE bands unique to any single station accounted for 38% of the total bands, whereas common bands detected at all five stations accounted for only 11%. Using UPGMA clustering and MDS ordination of DGGE fingerprints, stations I and II were found to initially group together into one cluster, which was later joined by station V. Stations III and IV were isolated into two separate groups of one station each. Some differences in grouping relationships were found when analysis was completed on the basis of chemical characteristics and morphological composition, with zooplankton composition showing the greatest variability. However, the most similar stations (I and II) were always initially grouped into one cluster. Moreover, stations that exhibited the same or similar trophic level (stations III and IV), but different concentrations of heavy metals, were further differentiated by the DGGE method. Results of the present study indicated that PCR-DGGE fingerprinting was more sensitive than the traditional methods, as other studies suggested. Additionally, PCR-DGGE appears to be more appropriate for diversity characterization of the plankton community, as it is more canonical, systematic, and effective. Most importantly, fingerprinting results are more convenient for the comparative analyses between different studies. Therefore, the use of the described fingerprinting analysis may provide an operable and sensitive biomonitoring approach to identify critical, and potentially negative, stress within an aquatic ecosystem.

In Asia, especially in China, our knowledge of the distribution of testate amoebae is still limited. In this paper, the geographical distribution of testate amoebae in Tibetan Plateau and northwestern Yunnan Plateau, southwest China and their relationships with the climatic factors have been studied. We found testate amoebae shifted in the most dominant species and increased in species (or genus) richness from northwest to southeast. Further, the linear regression analyses revealed that both species richness and genus richness have higher positive correlations with the mean temperature of the warmest month and annual mean precipitation as contrasted with the mean altitude, which showed weak negative correlation. This indicates that the temperature and precipitation are more significant influences on the richness than the altitude. The cluster analysis based on the community structure, defined by Sorenson's coefficient matrix, suggested four groups from the 10 physiographical regions. This geographical distribution pattern was also closely related with the climatic regionalization. The present climatic regionalization pattern of the study area originated from the uplift of Tibetan Plateau and mainly occurred in or after the late Pleistocene. Therefore, the geographical distribution of testate amoebae in our study area may have experienced complicated and drastic changes corresponding to the variation of the climate caused by the geological events.

Rainbow trout fry (10 weeks post hatch) were immunized (injection or immersion) with sonicated formalin-killed trophonts of the fish parasitic ciliate Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. Challenge infections 22 days after immunization showed a relative protection represented by significantly fewer established parasites and lower prevalence in the immunized groups compared to the controls. Associations between the obtained protection and changes in differential leukocyte counts, haematocrit values, anti Ichthyophthirius multifiliis antibodies, mucous cell density and some epidermal cell markers were investigated. No changes in antibody titers, haematocrit values and mucous cell counts were associated with the response; however, a minor change in peripheral blood neutrophils and epidermal cell markers were found.

We surveyed mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variation in the subfamily Xenocyprinae from China and used these data to estimate intraspecific, interspecific, and intergeneric phylogeny and assess biogeographic scenarios underlying the geographic structure of lineages. We sequenced 1140 bp of cytochrome b from 30 individuals of Xenocyprinae and one putative outgroup (Myxocypris asiaticus) and also sequenced 297 bp of ND4L, 1380 bp of ND4, 68 bp of tRNA(His), and 69 bp of tRNA(Ser) from 17 individuals of Xenocyprinae and the outgroup (M. asiaticus). We detected high levels of nucleotide variation among populations, species, and genera. The phylogenetic analysis suggested that Distoechodon hupeinensis might be transferred to the genus Xenocypris, the taxonomic status of the genus Plagiognathops might be preserved, and species of Xenocypris and Plagiognathops form a monophyletic group that is sister to the genus Distoechodon and Pseudobrama. The introgressive hybridization might occur among the populations of X. argentea and X. davidi, causing the two species to not be separated by mtDNA patterns according to their species identification, and the process and direction of hybridization are discussed. The spatial distributions of mtDNA lineages among populations of Xenocypris were compatible with the major geographic region, which indicated that the relationship between Hubei + Hunan and Fujian is closer than that between Hubei + Hunan and Sichuan, From a perspective of parasite investigation, our data suggested that the fauna of Hexamita in Xenocyprinae could be used to infer the phylogeny of their hosts. The in-plane optical anisotropy of several GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well samples with different well widths has been measured at room temperature by reflectance-difference spectroscopy (RDS). The RDS line shapes are found to be similar in all the samples examined here, which dominantly consist of two peak-like signals corresponding to 1HH-->1E and 1LH-->1E transition. As the well width is decreased, or the 1 ML InAs layer is inserted at one interface, the intensity of the anisotropy increases quickly. Our detail analysis shows that the anisotropy mainly arises from the anisotropic interface roughness. The results demonstrate that the RDS technique is sensitive to the interface structures.

We present a comparative study of InAs quantum dots grown on Si-doped GaAs (10 0) substrates, Si-doped GaAs (10 0) vicinal substrates, and semi-insulating GaAs (10 0) substrates. The density and size distribution of quantum dots varied greatly with the different substrates used. While dots on exact substrates showed only one dominant size, a clear bimodal size distribution of the InAs quantum dots was observed on GaAs vicinal substrates, which is attributed to the reduced surface diffusion due to the presence of multiatomic steps. The emission wavelength is blueshifted during the growth of GaAs cap layer with a significant narrowing of FWHM. We found that the blueshift is smaller for QDs grown on GaAs (10 0) vicinal substrates than that for dots on exact GaAs (100) substrates. This is attributed to the energy barrier formed at the multiatomic step kinks which prohibits the migration of In adatoms during the early stage of cap layer growth. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. A novel butt-joint coupling scheme is proposed to improve the coupling efficiency for the integration of a GalnAsP MQW distributed feedback (DFB) laser with an MQW electro-absorption modulator (EAM). The proposed method gives more than 90% coupling efficiency, being much higher than the 26% coupling efficiency of the common MQW-MQW coupling technique. The differential quantum efficiency of the MQW-bulk-MQW coupled device is also much higher than that of the MQW-MQW device, 0.106 mW/mA versus 0.02 mW/mA. The EAM-DFB devices fabricated by the proposed method exhibit a very high modulation efficiency (12 dB/V) from 0 to I V. By adopting a high-mesa ridge waveguide and buried polyimide, the capacitance of the modulator is reduced to about 0.28 pF. The experimental results demonstrate that the method can replace the conventional MQW-MQW coupling technique to fabricate high-quality integrated photonic devices. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
