Superresolution is very important in imaging and optical storage systems, and has attracted much attention. In this article, concentric three-zone phase plate with 0, pi, 0 phase variation has been investigated numerically to show that this kind of phase plate can be used to obtain three-dimensional superresolution. In addition, the number of intensity maximum, focal depth, focal shift, full-width half-maximum, and relative intensity of side lobe are listed for different radii of the phase zones, which paves the way for design of the phase plate. Therefore, one can choose values of radii for desired intensity distribution in focal region, such as for the purpose of radial superresolution with high focal depth in optical storage. The propagation of flat-topped beams passing through paraxial ABCD optical system is investigated based on the propagation formulas of Gaussian beam. The focal shift of focused coherent flat-topped beam is also studied in detail. Analytical expressions of the M-2 factor and the far-field intensity distribution for flat-topped beams are derived on the basis of second-order moments. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An analytical expression of a radial laser array for flat-topped beam is derived based on the generalized Collins formula. The intensity distribution of the resulting beam focused by a lens at the focus plane, for phase-locked and nonphase-locked cases, is studied numerically. The effect of the Fresnel number and normalized radius on intensity distribution for phase-locked and nonphase-locked cases is also presented. It is found that intensity distribution for nonphase-locked case is much less sensible to the Fresnel number and normalized radius than that of phase-locked case. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. 1998 年在西藏墨脱县海拔1000 m 左右地方采到成年雌性环蛇1 号, 系我国新纪录。该蛇全长/ 尾长(mm) 1095/ 112 (尾尖断) 。通身背面黑褐色, 后3/ 4 有由背鳞白色点斑缀成的窄横纹约40 个; 腹面浅黑 色, 每隔3 或4 枚腹鳞有不规则的黄白色横斑。尾背有少数不完整的白色纹, 但尾腹面有7 条很明显的横斑。头 部斑纹与M. Smith (1943 : 410) 描述一致, 可能由于蛇龄较老而不清晰。背鳞通身15 行, 脊鳞略扩大; 腹鳞 233 , 尾下鳞35 (略低于文献记载的44~51 , 可能与尾尖断有关) , 除前端第三、四两枚成单外, 其余均成对。 没有颊鳞; 眶前鳞1 , 眶后鳞2 ; 颞鳞1 + 2 ; 上唇鳞7 (22223 式) ; 下唇鳞7 , 第一对在颏鳞后彼此相接, 前4 对 接前颔片; 前颔片大于后颔片, 后者后半介一小鳞。检查一侧, 除前沟牙及其预备牙外, 没有发现其他上颌齿。

A new genus and two new species are described from the Pearl River drainage in Guangxi Province, South China. Hongshuia, new genus, can be distinguished from all other Asian genera of the Labeonini by having a lower lip with its median lobe modified into a round, fleshy plate peripherally greatly protruded so as to form a ring-like fold that is posteromedially continuous with the mental region, and centrally sunken so as to form a round, flat, fleshy pad. This genus is distinct from all other Asian labeonine genera of the Garrina except for one newly described species of Parasinilabeo ( P. longibarbus), Pseudocrossocheilus, and Sinocrossocheilus, in the presence of well-developed maxillary barbels. Hongshuia differs from the above three genera in the lower lip morphology, and further from both Pseudocrossocheilus and Qianlabeo in the number of pharyngeal tooth rows and from Sinocrossocheilus in the colour pattern. Two new species, H. banmo and H. paoli, differ in the distribution density and degree of development of papillae on the rostral fold, depth of indentations on the distal edge of the rostral fold, presence or absence of papillae on the lower lip, size and shape of tubercles on the tip of the snout and anterior portion of the lachrymal, length, position and colour pattern of the dorsal fin, and snout length.

In this paper, we present a theoretical approach to optimize the design of a fiber optic hydrophone based on a flat diaphragm and multilayer fiber coils. In this theoretical analysis, both the radial and tangential strain induced fiber length changes are taken into account. The result shows that the position of the fiber coils and the number of the fiber layers have significant effects on the sensitivity, of the hydrophone. By optimizing these parameters, a higher sensitivity can be achieved. Sample hydrophones are fabricated and tested. The experimental result is in good agreement with the theoretical result, which shows this theoretical approach is effective in optimizing the design of the fiber optic hydrophone. In the optical network, the quick and accurate alignment with wavelength is an important issue during the channel detection. At this point, a filter having flat-top response characteristic is an effective solution. Based on multiple-step-type Fabry-Perot cavity structure, a novel all-Si-based thermooptical tunable flat-top filter with narrow-band has been fabricated, using our patent silicon-on-reflector bonding technology. The device demonstrated a 1-dB flat-top width of 1 nm, 3-dB band of 3 nm, free spectra range of 8 nm, and the tuning range of 4.6 nm was obtained under the applied voltage of 4 V.

AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) on 6H-SiC with varying field-plate length and gate-drain spacing were fabricated and analyzed. The classical small signal FET model and the well-known ColdFET method were used to extract the small signal parameters of the devices. Though the devices with field plates exhibited lower better f(T) characteristic, they did demonstrate better f(max), MSG and power density performances than the conventional devices without field plate. Besides, no independence of DC characteristic on field-plate length was observed. With the increase of the field-plate length and the gate-drain spacing, the characteristic of f(T) and f(max), degraded due to the large parasitic effects. Loadpull method was used to measure the microwave power performance of the devices. Under the condition of continuous wave at 5.4 GHz, an output power density of 4.69 W/mm was obtained for device with field-plate length of 0.5 mu m and gate-drain length of 2 mu m. A 40-channel 0.8-nm-spaced flat-top silica-based arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with a tapered multimode interferometer (MMI) at the end of its input waveguide has been experimentally demonstrated for the first time. By adding the MMI, the 1-dB and 3-dB bandwidths are increased to 0.45 and 0.62 nm, respectively. The insertion loss (IS) of the device ranges from 3.8 to 6.8 dB. The IS uniformity is better than 3.0 dB. The crosstalk is better than -25 dB. Compared to the AWG with a rectangular MMI, the AWG with a tapered MMI shows better IS, crosstalk, and ripple. Photoluminescence (PL) of strained SiGe/Si multiple quantum wells (MQW) with flat and undulated SiGe well layers was studied at different temperature. With elevated temperature from 10K, the no-phonon (NP) peak of the SiGe layers in the flat sample has firstly a blue shift due to the dominant transition converting from bound excitons (BE) to free excitons (FE), and then has a red shift when the temperature is higher than 30K because of the narrowing of the band gap. In the undulated sample, however, monotonous blue shift was observed as the temperature was elevated from 10 K to 287 K. The thermally activated electrons, confined in Si due to type-II band alignment, leak into the SiGe crest regions, and the leakage is enhanced with the elevated temperature. It results in a blue shift of the SiGe luminescence spectra.

Initial stage GaN growth by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) on SiC(0001) substrate is followed by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy. Comparison is made between growth on nominally flat and vicinal substrate surfaces and the results reveal characteristic differences between the two. Ex situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) rocking curve measurements of the films show lower density of defects and better structural quality of the vicinal film. We suggest the improved structural quality of the vicinal film is related to the characteristic difference in its initial stage nucleation and coalescence proccsses than that of the flat film.

The excess Helmholtz free energy functional for associating hard sphere fluid is formulated by using a modified fundamental measure theory [Y. X. Yu and J. Z. Wu, J. Chem. Phys. 117, 10156 (2002)]. Within the framework of density functional theory, the thermodynamic properties including phase equilibria for both molecules and monomers, equilibrium plate-fluid interfacial tensions and isotherms of excess adsorption, average molecule density, average monomer density, and plate-fluid interfacial tension for four-site associating hard sphere fluids confined in slit pores are investigated. The phase equilibria inside the hard slit pores and attractive slit pores are determined according to the requirement that temperature, chemical potential, and grand potential in coexistence phases should be equal and the plate-fluid interfacial tensions at equilibrium states are predicted consequently. The influences of association energy, fluid-solid interaction, and pore width on phase equilibria and equilibrium plate-fluid interfacial tensions are discussed.
