Electrodes modified with isopolymolybdic acid+polyaniline film, which exhibit high stability and activity in aqueous acidic solution, have been prepared successfully using two methods: one-step synthesis by electrochemical polymerization at a constant applied potential of +0.80 V/SCE or by cycling the potential at 100 mV/s between -0.12 and +0.85 V in 0.5 M H2SO4 containing 5.0x10(-2) M aniline and 5.0x10(-3) M H4Mo8O26, or two-step synthesis by doping the polyaniline film electrode with isopoly acid (IPA) under a cycling potential between -0.20 and +0.40 V in 0.5 M H2SO4 containing the H4Mo8O26 dopant. The thickness of the film and the amount of dopant in the polyaniline film can be controlled by experimental parameters such as the charge, time and the ratio of aniline to IPA in the solution. The experimental results show that electrodes modified with isopolymolybdic acid+polyaniline film using both methods have a strong catalytic effect on the reduction of chlorate anions. Comparison of the two methods of modification shows that the catalytic effect at the modified electrode prepared by the two-step method is greater than that at the electrode prepared by the one-step method.

The half-open vanadocene, V[2,4-(CH3)2C5H5](C5H5)CO, was obtained by the reaction of V[2,4-(CH3)2C5H5](C5H5)PMe3 with CO in petroleum ether at room temperature. Its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction technique. The crystal was monoclinic with space group P2(1)/n, a = 16.614(3), b = 7.636(1), c = 19.128(6) angstrom, beta = 99.92(2)-degrees, V = 2390.5(9) angstrom3, and Z = 8. The final R value was 0.043. The V(1)-CPD(1) (half) (PD = 2,4-(CH3)2C5H5) bonds were shorter (0.038 angstrom) than the V(1)-CCP(1) (half) (CP = C5H5) bonds, averaging 2.224(4) versus 2.262(4) angstrom, respectively. 4V[2,4-(CH3)2C5H5](C5H5)CO has been characterized by IR and EPR methods.

In this paper a carbon fibre (CF) microelectrode modified with the 2:18-molybdodiphosphate anion by simple adsorption is described and its electrochemical behaviour is reported. The 2:18-molybdodiphosphate anion (alpha-P2Mo18O626-), which is a Dawson structure, undergoes five successive multielectron reductions in acidic solution. The first three redox waves correspond to the two-electron process, and the last two waves are four-electron and six-electron processes respectively. On the basis of the experimental results it is shown that the electrode process of alpha-P2Mo18O626- on the CF electrode in acidic solution is simultaneously controlled by the diffusion and adsorption of alpha-P2Mo18O626- anions. When the concentration of the alpha-P2Mo18O626- in the solution is reduced, the electrode process mainly exhibits non-diffusion-controlled behaviour, and the diffusion-limited process takes over as the concentration of alpha-P2Mo18O626- becomes higher. The CF electrode modified with a thin film of alpha-P2Mo18O626- exhibits very good stability and redox behaviour in aqueous acidic solution. The alpha-P2Mo18O626- is reduced to heteropoly blue, with an accompanying protonation process. The addition of more than six electrons to the alpha-P2Mo18O626- anion in an aqueous solution does not result in its decomposition. The result obtained is not the same as that reported previously.

A number of synthetic and natural source porphyrins without long alkyl chains have been examined in the form of monolayers and multilayers on solid substrates. These compounds formed stable solid condensed films with measured molecular areas compatible with a vertical or tilted orientation of these molecules on the substrate. Spectral study and fluorescence lifetime measurement, in particular, revealed the formation of aggregates as the main species in these films.

Bis(t-butylcyclopentadienyl)lanthanide chloride (Ln = Nd or Gd) reacts with one equivalent of methyllithium in ether/tetrahydrofuran to give the complex [(C5H4tBu)2LnCH3]2 (Ln = Nd or Gd). The structure of [(C5H4tBu)2NdCH3]2 has been determined by X-ray analysis. The crystals are monoclinic of space group Cm with a = 9.538(2), b = 23.298(4), c = 9.505(3) angstrom, beta = 119.53(2)-degrees, V = 1828.0(7) angstrom 3, D(calc.) = 1.458 g/cm3 and Z = 2 for the dimer. The two (C5H4tBu)2Nd units in the dimer are connected by asymmetrical methyl bridges with independent Nd-C bond lengths of 2.70(2) and 2.53(2) angstrom and Nd-C-Nd angles of 94.7(9) and 87.3(6)-degrees.

New compounds LaSr2-xCa-(x)V3O9+/-y (x = 0.0, 0.67, 1.0, 1.33 and 2.0) have been synthesized with a simple new method X ray powder diffraction results indicate that they are single compound. Their lattice constants are calculated. The structure of LaSr2-xCa(x)V39+/-y changed from cubic to orthorhombic and back to cubic with the increase of calcium content. The results of weight gain in TG and XPS curves show that vanadium with lower valent state is oxidized to higher valent state at higher temperature. The oxygen content of new compounds are calculated from the weight gain. It is shown that V3+ and V4+ may coexist in LaSr2-xCa(x)V3O9+/-y. These compounds show that low resistivity.

Agaro-oligosaccharides were hydrolytically obtained from agar using hydrochloric acid, citric acid, and cationic exchange resin (solid acid). The FT-IR and NMR data showed that the hydrolysate has the structure of agaro-oligomers. Orthogonal matrix method was applied to optimize the preparation conditions based on alpha-naphthylamine end-labeled HPLC analysis method. The optimal way for oligosaccharides with different degree of polymerization (DP) was achieved by using solid acid degradation, which could give high yield and avoid solution neutralization process. Agaro-oligosaccharides with high purity were consequently obtained by activated carbon column isolation. Furthermore, the antioxidant and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of three fractions were also investigated. The result indicated that 8% ethanol-eluted fraction showed highest activity against alpha-glucosidase with IC50 of 8.84 mg/mL, while 25% ethanol-eluted fraction possessed excellent antioxidant ability.

Thalli from a brown alga Undaria pinnatifida were soaked by CaCl2 solution with different concentration and time at 4 degreesC, the effect of CaCl2 solution on efficiency and influorescence emission spectra of chloroplasts were examined. The results show that the efficiency of collected chloroplasts is increased markedly after soaking in CaCl2 solution. According to the results of collected efficiency and characteristic of influorescence emission spectra at room temperature of chloroplasts, it was suggested that soaking in the 0.2 mol/L CaCl2 solution for 10 min is optimum. Under this condition, the efficiency of collected chloroplasts is as 5 fold as control group, and the characteristics of chloroplasts obtained by CaCl2 soaking are similar to that of traditional method.
