The pentamethylcyclopentadienyl iridium complexes Cp*Ir(PMe3)(E-n) (E = S, n = 4, 5 or 6; E = Se, n = 2 or 4 E = Te, n = 2) react with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate to give Cp*Ir(PMe3)[E2C2(COOMe)(2)] compounds which tend to lose the trimethylphosphine ligand; the molecular structure of the dithiolene derivative, Cp*Ir[S2C2(COOMe)(2)], has been determined.

Carbonyl-iridium half-sandwich compounds, Cp*Ir(CO)(EPh)(2) (E = S, Se), were prepared by the photo-induced reaction of Cp*Ir(CO)(2) with the diphenyl dichalcogenides, E2Ph2, and used as neutral chelating ligands in carbonylmetal complexes such as Cp*Ir(CO)(mu-EPh)(2)[Cr(CO)(4)], Cp*Ir(CO)(mu-EPh)(2)[Mo(CO)(4)] and Cp*Ir(CO)(mu-EPh)(2)[Fe(CO)(3)], respectively. A trimethylphosphane - iridium analogue, Cp*Ir(PMe3)(mu-SeMe)(2)[Cr(CO)(4)], was also obtained. The new heterodimetallic complexes were characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, and the molecular geometry of Cp*Ir(CO)(mu-SePh)(2)[Mo(CO)(4)] has been determined by a single crystal X-ray structure analysis. According to the long Ir...Mo distance (395.3(1) Angstrom), direct metal-metal interactions appear to be absent. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Microcalorimetric studies of H-2, NH3 and O-2 adsorption, as well as the NH3 decomposition activities evaluation were used to characterize the iridium catalysts for hydrazine decomposition with different supports (Al2O3, SiO,) and iridium contents (1.8, 10.8 and 22.1%). The higher H-2 chemisorption amounts on Ir/Al2O3 catalysts than those on the corresponding Ir/SiO2 counterparts revealed that the strong interaction of iridium and Al2O3 led to higher dispersion of iridium on Ir/Al2O3 catalysts than on Ir/SiO2 catalysts. The larger increase in strong H-2 adsorption sites on highly loaded Ir/Al2O3 than the corresponding Ir/SiO2 ones could be attributed to the interaction not only between iridium atoms but also between iridium and Al2O3. The microcalorimetric results for NH3 adsorption showed that no apparent chemisorption of NH3 existed on Ir/SiO2 catalysts while NH3 chemisorption amounts increased on Ir/Al2O3 catalysts with iridium loadings, which arose from the interaction of the catalysts support of Al2O3 With chloride anion. Both highly dispersed iridium active sites and chloride anion on Ir/Al2O3 catalysts could be beneficial to the intermediate NH3 decomposition in N2H4 decomposition. The similar O-2 plots of differential heat versus normalized coverage on Ir/Al2O3 and Ir/SiO2 catalysts could not be due to the metal-support interaction, but to the formation of strong Ir-O bond. 197Au were irradiated with 47 MeV/u 12C ions. Iridium was produced via the multinucleon transfer reactions in bombardments of 197Au with 12C. and was separated radiochemically from Au and the mixture of the reaction products. The γ radioactivities of Ir isotopes were measured by using a HPGe detector. The production cross sections of Ir isotopes were determined from activities of Ir isotopes at the end of bombardment and the other relative data. It has been found that the cross sections for neutron-rich iso...

The neutron deficient nuclide Ir-175 was produced by irradiation of Nd-146 with 210 MeV Cl-35 via a fusion-evaporation reaction channel. The reaction products were transported to a low-background location using a helium-jet recoil fast-moving tape-transport system for measurement. The experimental devices and data analysis method are introduced. Based on the decay-curve fitting of the beta-delayed gamma ray from Ir-175, realized by the least-square method, a new long-lived isomeric state of Ir-175 is proposed and briefly discussed.

With the goal to provide organometallic triplet emitters with good hole-injection/hole-transporting properties, highly amorphous character for simple solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes, and negligible triplet-triplet (T-T) annihilation, a series of new phosphorescent cyclometalated Ir-III and Pt-II complexes with triphenylamine-anchored fluorenylpyridine dendritic ligands were synthesized and characterized. The photophysical, thermal, electrochemical and electroluminescent properties of these molecules are reported.

Characteristics of white organic light-emitting devices based on phosphor sensitized fluorescence are improved by using a multiple-emissive-layer structure, in which a phosphorescent blue emissive layer is sandwiched between red and green&yellow ones. In this device, bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,C-2] (picolinato), bis(2,4-diphenyl-quinoline) iridium (III) acetylanetonate, fac bis (2-phenylpyridine) iridium, and 5,6,11,12-tetraphenylnaphthacene are used as blue, red, green, and yellow emitters, respectively.

The electronic structures and spectral properties of three Re(I) complexes [Re(CO)(3)XL] (X = Br, Cl; L = 1-(4-5 '-phenyl-1.3,4-oxadiazolylbenzyl)-2-pyridinylbenzoimidazole (1), 1-(4-carbazolylbutyl)-2-pyridinylbenzoimidazole (2), and 2-(1-ethyl benzimidazol-2-yl)pyridi ne (3)) were investigated theoretically. The ground and the lowest lying triplet excited states were full optimized at the B3LYP/LANL2DZ and CIS/LANL2DZ levels, respectively. TDDFT/PCM calculations have been employed to predict the absorption and emission spectra starting from the ground and excited state geometries, respectively.

In this paper, a quantum chemistry method was used to investigate the effect of different sizes of substituted phenanthrolines on absorption, energy transfer, and the electroluminescent performance of a series of Eu(TTA)(3)L (L = [1,10] phenanthroline (Phen), Pyrazino[2,3-f][1,10]phenanthroline (PyPhen), 2-methylprrazino[2,3-f][1,10] phenanthroline(MPP), dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine(DPPz), 11-methyldipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'c]phenazine(MDPz), 11.12-dimethyldipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine(DDPz), and benzo[i]dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (BDPz)) complexes. Absorption spectra calculations show that different sizes of secondary ligands have different effects on transition characters, intensities, and absorption peak positions.

Quantum-chemistry methods were explored to investigate the electronic structures, injection and transport properties, absorption and phosphorescence mechanism of a series of blue-emitting Ir(III) complexes {[(F-2-ppy)(2)Ir(pta -X/pyN4)], where F-2-ppy = (2,4-difluoro)phenylpyridine; pta = pyridine-1,2,4-triazole; X = phenyl(1); p-tolyl (2); 2,6-difluororophenyl (3); -CF3 (4), and pyN4 = pyridine-1,2,4-tetrazolate (5)}, which are used as emitters in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The mobility of hole and electron were studied computationally based on the Marcus theory. Calculations of Ionization potentials (IPs) and electron affinities (EAs) were used to evaluate the injection abilities of holes and electrons into these complexes.

We report a quantum-chemical study of electronic, optical and charge transporting properties of four platinum (II) complexes, pt((CN)-N-Lambda)(2) ((CN)-N-Lambda=phenylpyridine or thiophenepyridine). The lowest-lying absorptions at 442, 440, 447 and 429 nm are all attributed to the mixed transition characters of metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) and ligand-centered (LC) pi - pi(*) transition. While, unexpectedly, the lowest-lying phosphorescent emissions at 663, 660, 675 and 742 nm are mainly from metal-to-ligand charge transfer ((MLCT)-M-3) ligand-centered (LC) pi ->pi* transition. Ionization potential (IP), electron affinities (EA) and reorganization energy P (lambda(hole/electron)) were obtained to evaluate the charge transfer and balance properties between hole and electron.
