The deviation from the stoichiometric composition of single-crystal 'Er2Co17' has been determined by theoretical analysis. It is found that the composition of this single-crystal 'Er2Co17' is rich in cobalt, and its real composition is suggested to be Er2-deltaCo17+2 delta (delta = 0.14) on the basis of a comparison of calculations based on the single-ion model with a series of experiments. The values of the Er-Co exchange field H-ex and the crystalline-electric-field (CEF) parameters A(n)(m) at the rare-earth (R) site in the 'Er2Co17' compound are also evaluated at the same time. The experiments provide the following data: the temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetization of the compounds and the normalized magnetic moment of the Er ion, the magnetization curves dong the crystallographic axes at 4.2 K and 200 K, and the temperature dependence of the magnetization along the crystallographic axes in a field of 4 T.

We investigate high-field ferromagnetic resonance of superparamagnetic particles with uniaxial anisotropy, In this case, since the field is large enough to saturate the magnetization, the thermal orientational fluctuations of the magnetic moment of the particle are negligible. Thus, we derive the dynamic susceptibility of the system on the basis of an independent particle model. High-field ferromagnetic resonance has been performed on fine cobalt particles, The analysis of the spectra obtained at different frequencies allows us to estimate the effective magnetic anisotropy, the gyromagnetic ratio, and the transverse relaxation time. Using the transfer matrix renormalization group (TMRG) method, we study the connection between the first derivative of the thermal average of driving-term Hamiltonian (DTADH) and the trace of quantum critical behaviors at finite temperatures. Connecting with the exact diagonalization method, we give the phase diagrams and analyze the properties of each phase for both the ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic frustrated J(3) anisotropy diamond chain models. The finite-temperature scaling behaviors near the critical regions are also investigated. Further, we show the critical behaviors driven by external magnetic field, analyze the formation of the 1/3 magnetic plateau and the influence of different interactions on those critical points for both the ferrimagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic distorted diamond chains.

We study quantum teleportation via a two-qubit Heisenberg XXZ, chain under an inhomogeneous magnetic field. We first consider entanglement teleportation, and then focus on the teleportation fidelity under different conditions. The effects of anisotropy and the magnetic field, both uniform and inhomogeneous, are discussed. We also find that, though entanglement teleportation does require an entangled quantum channel, a nonzero critical value of minimum entanglement is not always necessary.

In this paper we study the SWAP operation in a two-qubit anisotropic XXZ model in the presence of an inhomogeneous magnetic field. We establish the range of anisotropic parameter lambda within which the SWAP operation is feasible. The SWAP errors caused by the inhomogeneous field are evaluated.

CoFe2O4 nanoparticles prepared by chemical coprecipitation method in a magnetic field exhibit novel magnetic properties. The average particle diameter was about 2 nm and larger depending on the post annealing temperature. Magnetization measurements indicate that smaller nanoparticles are superparamagnetic above their respective blocking temperatures. In the blocked state, these nanoparticles exhibit interesting behaviors in the magnetic hysteresis measurements. Constricted, or wasp waisted with extremely narrow waist, hysteresis curves have been observed in the magnetization versus field sweeps. For larger nanoparticles, the room temperature hysteresis is typical of a ferromagnet with an open loop, but the loop closes at lower temperature. The novel magnetic behavior is attributed to the directional order of Co ions and vacancies in CoFe2O4 established during the coprecipitation of the nanoparticles under an applied field.

Based on a single ion model, Hamiltonian of the simplest form about magnetocrystalline anisotropy for Tb3+ ion was solved by using the numerical method. The relation between the stabilization energy, crystal field coefficient B-2(0) and the magnetic exchange interaction was studied as temperature approaches to 0 K. The results show that the stabilization energy contributed by Tb3+ is linear with crystal field coefficient B-2(0) approximately, but it is insensitive to the change of magnetic exchange interaction for the strong magnetic substances such as TbCo5, Tb2Co17 and Tb2Fe14B compounds.

Sintered magnets of Sm2Fe17Ny nitrides, with a density of 6.0-7.4 g/cm3, have been prepared by using an explosion technique. Both crystalline structure and the magnetic properties of Sm2Fe17Ny nitrides were retained in the process. The sintered magnet had a remanence B(r)=0.83 T, an intrinsic coercivity mu(0i)H(c)=0.57 T and an energy product (BH)max=88 kJ/m3. The temperature dependence of coercivity and remanence were also measured. The temperature coefficients alpha of remanence and beta of coercivity are -0.076%/degrees-C and -0.51%/degrees-C, respectively.

By chopping a pump beam in conventional time-resolved Kerr rotation (TRKR) experiments and measuring the time evolution of M-shaped "major" hysteresis loops of magnetic linear dichroism (Delta MLD = MLDpump-on MLDpump-off), the differential MLD signal in the presence and the absence of the pump beam, we studied the dynamics of photo-enhanced magneto-crystalline anisotropy, and found that its very long recovering time (much longer than 13 ns) might reflect the nature of the coherent coupling between photo-excited holes and localized spins in the d shell of manganese.

Structural and magnetic characteristics of Fe3-xSnxO4 (x < 0.3) nanoparticles synthesized using the precipitation exchange method have been investigated by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope, Mossbauer spectra, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and magnetization measurement. The mean particle dimension decreases from 8 to 6 nm, the lattice parameters enlarge, the saturation magnetization decreases, as well as the magnetization and the coercive field increase, with increasing tin-content. The paramagnetic property of the specimens indicates that the replacement of Fe3+ by Sn4+ on the octahedral sites of Fe3O4 causes a progressive lowering of the Curie temperature and the Curie temperatures of the materials are all lower than that of crystallite tin-doped magnetite. This striking debasing is due to the lessening of the grain size. This is the smallest size reported thus far for paramagnetic tin-doped magnetite particles. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. We demonstrate tunnel magnetoresistance junctions based on a trilayer system consisting of an epitaxial NiMnSb, an aluminum oxide, and a CoFe trilayer. The junctions show a tunneling magnetoresistance of Delta R/R of 8.7% at room temperature which increases to 14.7% at 4.2 K. The layers show a clear separate switching and a small ferromagnetic coupling. A uniaxial in-plane anisotropy in the NiMnSb layer leads to different switching characteristics depending on the direction in which the magnetic field is applied, an effect which can be used for sensor applications. Experimental results show that the exchange coupling field (H-ex) of NiFe/FeMn for Ta/NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers is higher than that for spin-valve multilayers Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/Ta. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy shows that Cu atoms segregate to the NiFe/FeMn interface for Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers. While studying Ta/X(X=Bi,Pb,Ag,In)/NiFe/FeMn multilayers, we also find that X atoms segregate to the NiFe/FeMn interface, which results in a decrease of the H-ex. However, a small amount of Bi, Pb, etc. deposited between Cu and pinned NiFe layer for Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers can increase H-ex. (C) 2003 American Institute of Physics.

The experimental results show that the exchange coupling field of NiFe/FeMn for Ta/ NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers is higher than that for the spin valve multilayers Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/ Ta. In order to find out the reason, the composition and chemical states at the surfaces of Ta(12nm)/ NiFe(7nm), Ta(12nm)/NiFe(7nm)/Cu(4nm) and Ta(12nm)/NiFe(7nm)/Cu(3nm)/NiFe(5nm) were studied using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that no elements from lower layers float out or segregate to the surface for the first and second samples. However, Cu atoms segregate to the surface of Ta(12nm)/NiFe(7nm)/Cu(3nm)/NiFe(5nm) multilayers, i.e. Cu atoms segregate to the NiFe/FeMn interface for Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers. We believe that the presence of Cu atoms at the interface of NiFe/FeMn is one of the important factors causing the exchange coupling field of Ta/NiFe/FeMn/Ta multilayers to be higher than that of Ta/NiFe/Cu/NiFe/ FeMn/Ta multilayers.
