It is proved that Johnson's damage number is the sole similarity parameter for dynamic plastic shear failure of structures loaded impulsively, therefore, dynamic plastic shear failure can be understood when damage number reaches a critical value. It is suggested that the damage number be generally used to predict the dynamic plastic shear failure of structures under various kinds of dynamic loads (impulsive loading, rectangular pressure pulse, exponential pressure pulse, etc.,). One of the advantages for using the damage number to predict such kind of failure is that it is conveniently used for dissimilar material modeling.

'Notch-sensitive regions' have been observed during a series of experimental investigations into the dynamic plastic behaviour and failure of thin-walled metallic radially notched circular rings with are-shaped supports subjected to concentrated impact loads. The experimental results show that the exterior notches at some regions have no effect on the deformation of the rings, but do have effect at the remaining regions. The notch-sensitive region is theoretically determined by using the equivalent structures technique; fairly good agreement has been reached between the simple theory and the experimental results. Both dimensional and theoretical analyses prove that whether a plastic hinge formed or not at the notched section does not depend on the mean radius of the ring and the input kinetic energy. It depends on the weak coefficient of the notched section and the angle of the support. Generally speaking, there are mainly three failure modes for a notched circular ring with are-shaped support under impact loading: Mode I, large inelastic deformation when the notch is outside the sensitive region, in this case the ring deforms as a normal one; Mode II, large inelastic deformation only at some part of the ring and tearing occurred at the notched sections; Mode III, large inelastic deformation and total rupture occurred at the notched sections. It is believed that the present study could assist the understanding of the dynamic behaviour and failure of other kinds of nonstraight components with macroscopic imperfections under impulsive loading.

In this paper, the initial development of microdamage in material subjected to impulsive loading was investigated experimentally and analytically with controllable short-load duration. Based on a general solution to the statistical evolution of a one-dimensional system of ideal microcracks, a prerequisite to experimental investigation of nucleation of microcracks was derived. By counting the number of microcracks, the distribution of nucleation of microcracks was studied. The law of the nucleation rate of microcracks can be expressed as a separable function of stress and cracksize. It is roughly linear dependence on loading stress. The normalized number density of microcracks is in agreement with that of a second-phase particle.

利用特殊设计的“hat shape”试样,在分离式Hopkinson压杆和MTS通用材料试验机上实验研究了颗粒尺寸和应变率对颗粒增强金属基复合材料(SiC_P/6151Al)变形局部化行为的影响。结果表明:颗粒尺寸对复合材料的变形强化与变形局部化行为有显著影响。具体表现为:颗粒越小,复合材料流动应力越高,即强化效果越好;另一方面,对受载试样的微观检测发现,颗粒越小,复合材料剪切变形局部分越明显。同时发现,冲击载荷(高应变率)下复合材料更容易发生变形局部化。

本文针对发展新一代步兵战车复合材料履带板所面临的关键问题,结合其实际受载特点,设计制备了冲击疲劳实验加载装置,并着重从实验设计及机理分析上进行细致深入的探索,揭示了Al_2O_3/LC_4复合材料冲击疲劳破坏的微观过程和机理。首先分别对SiC_P/LC_4、Al_2O_(3P)/LC_4 及基体 LC_4 进行了显微组织的观察与定量分析,并对其拉伸、三点弯曲破坏过程进行了在位观察,结合其断裂形貌的观察与分析,揭示出颗粒增强铝基复合材料断裂破坏的根本原因是颗粒的聚集及脆性相在晶界的严重偏聚。针对这一结论,给材料制备单位提出工艺改进意见。对工艺改进后制备的复合材料进行常规力学性能的测试,结果表明,其拉伸性能明显优于改进前制备的相应材料。为了进行冲击疲劳的实验研究,在分析步兵战车履带板实际受载特点的基础上,自行设计制备了冲击疲劳实验的加载装置。主要包括主体框架和测量系统,前者与小型振动系统配合使用可以实现冲击能量为 0.3J、冲击频率为 1Hz、冲击速度为 0.6m/s 的多次冲击实验;后者可以准确记录下任意时刻的冲击载荷波形及冲击疲劳载荷的循环数。为了考察颗粒与加载速率对复合材料疲劳机理的影响,实验研究了 Al_2O_3/LC_4 复合材料和 LC_4 纯基体材料在冲击疲劳和常规疲劳过程中裂纹的扩展过程及扩展速率。综合结果发现:与LC_4纯基体材料相比,Al_2O_3/LC_4复合材料疲劳裂纹扩展得更为迅速。复合材料中,由于颗粒的加入,两种疲劳方式下袭纹都发生严重偏转;裂纹经过颗粒时,多数是绕过,少数是切过颗粒;冲击疲劳裂纹扩展速率明显高于常规疲劳裂纹扩展速率。纯基体材料中,两种加载方式下,裂纹基本都以穿晶的方式扩展,裂纹常常表现为小锯齿状;冲击疲劳裂纹尖端的塑性变形程度比常规疲劳更大;冲击疲劳裂纹比常规疲劳裂纹更曲折,表现出多尺度的锯齿状(Zig-Zag)特征;冲击疲劳裂纹扩展速率高于常规疲劳的裂纹扩展速率。在基本实验的基础上,进一步对断口及裂纹扩展途径进行了微观观察和定量分析,最后综合全文的实验和统计结果,讨论了颗粒增强铝基复合材料的冲击疲劳机理。复合材料疲劳裂纹扩展速率的提高主要与裂纹的偏转有关,裂纹更倾向于沿着颗粒与基体的界面扩展;两种材料的疲劳裂纹扩展速率均随加载速率的增加而增加,呈现加载速率的反作用。加载方式的改变,一方面,由于冲击情况下载荷持续时间降低,使裂纹扩展速率降低;另一方面,加载速率的提高使得断裂韧性值降低,材料变脆,裂纹扩展速率升高。这两个方面相互影响,相互竞争,决定实际的裂纹扩展速率。两种材料中,不同加载速率下的疲劳裂纹扩展的微观机制基本一致,没有明显的本质区别。

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide abundantly expressed in the central nervous system and involved in regulating neurogenesis and neuronal signal transduction. The amino acid sequence of PACAP is extremely conserved across vertebrate species, indicating a strong functional constraint during the course of evolution. However, through comparative sequence analysis, we demonstrated that the PACAP precursor gene underwent an accelerated evolution in the human lineage since the divergence from chimpanzees, and the amino acid substitution rate in humans is at least seven times faster than that in other mammal species resulting from strong Darwinian positive selection. Eleven human-specific amino acid changes were identified in the PACAP precursors, which are conserved from murine to African apes. Protein structural analysis suggested that a putative novel Deuropeptide might have originated during human evolution and functioned in the human brain. Our data suggested that the PACAP precursor gene underwent adaptive changes during human origin and may have contributed to the formation of human cognition.

Neurotrypsin is one of the extra-cellular serine proteases that are predominantly expressed in the brain and involved in neuronal development and function. Mutations in humans are associated with autosomal recessive non-syndromic mental retardation (MR). We studied the molecular evolution of neurotrypsin by sequencing the coding region of neurotrypsin in 11 representative non-human primate species covering great apes, lesser apes, Old World monkeys and New World monkeys. Our results demonstrated a strong functional constraint of neurotrypsin that was caused by strong purifying selection during primate evolution, an implication of an essential functional role of neurotrypsin in primate cognition. Further analysis indicated that the purifying selection was in fact acting on the SRCR domains of neurotrypsin, which mediate the binding activity of neurotrypsin to cell surface or extracellular proteins. In addition, by comparing primates with three other mammalian orders, we demonstrated that the absence of the first copy of the SRCR domain (exon 2 and 3) in mouse and rat was due to the deletion of this segment in the murine lineage. Extract of Ginkgo biloba is used to alleviate age-related decline in cognitive function, which may be associated with the loss of catecholamines in the prefrontal cortex. The purpose of this study was to verify whether alpha-2 adrenergic activity is involved in the facilitative effects of extract of Ginkgo biloba on prefrontal cognitive function. Male Wistar rats were trained to reach criterion in the delayed alternation task (0, 25, and 50-s delay intervals). A pilot study found that 3 or 4 mg/kg of yohimbine (intraperitoneal) reduced the choice accuracy of the delayed alternation task in a dose and delay-dependent manner, without influencing motor ability or perseverative behaviour. Acute oral pre-treatment with doses of 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg (but not 25 mg/kg) of extract of Ginkgo biloba prevented the reduction in choice accuracy induced by 4 mg/kg yohimbine. These data suggest that the prefrontal cognition-enhancing effects of extract of Ginkgo biloba are related to its actions on alpha-2-adrenoceptors.

In this paper, a new classifier of speaker identification has been proposed, which is based on Biomimetic pattern recognition (BPR). Distinguished from traditional speaker recognition methods, such as DWT, HMM, GMM, SVM and so on, the proposed classifier is constructed by some finite sub-space which is reasonable covering of the points in high dimensional space according to distributing characteristic of speech feature points. It has been used in the system of speaker identification. Experiment results show that better effect could be obtained especially with lesser samples. Furthermore, the proposed classifier employs a much simpler modeling structure as compared to the GMM. In addition, the basic idea "cognition" of Biomimetic pattern recognition (BPR) results in no requirement of retraining the old system for enrolling new speakers.

Biomimetic pattern recogntion (BPR), which is based on "cognition" instead of "classification", is much closer to the function of human being. The basis of BPR is the Principle of homology-continuity (PHC), which means the difference between two samples of the same class must be gradually changed. The aim of BPR is to find an optimal covering in the feature space, which emphasizes the "similarity" among homologous group members, rather than "division" in traditional pattern recognition. Some applications of BPR are surveyed, in which the results of BPR are much better than the results of Support Vector Machine. A novel neuron model, Hyper sausage neuron (HSN), is shown as a kind of covering units in BPR. The mathematical description of HSN is given and the 2-dimensional discriminant boundary of HSN is shown. In two special cases, in which samples are distributed in a line segment and a circle, both the HSN networks and RBF networks are used for covering. The results show that HSN networks act better than RBF networks in generalization, especially for small sample set, which are consonant with the results of the applications of BPR. And a brief explanation of the HSN networks' advantages in covering general distributed samples is also given.

In this paper, we constructed a Iris recognition algorithm based on point covering of high-dimensional space and Multi-weighted neuron of point covering of high-dimensional space, and proposed a new method for iris recognition based on point covering theory of high-dimensional space. In this method, irises are trained as "cognition" one class by one class, and it doesn't influence the original recognition knowledge for samples of the new added class. The results of experiments show the rejection rate is 98.9%, the correct cognition rate and the error rate are 95.71% and 3.5% respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the rejection rate of test samples excluded in the training samples class is very high. It proves the proposed method for iris recognition is effective.

The differences between connectionism and symbolicism in artificial intelligence (AI) are illustrated on several aspects in details firstly; then after conceptually decision factors of connectionism are proposed, the commonalities between connectionism and symbolicism are tested to make sure, by some quite typical logic mathematics operation examples such as "parity"; At last, neuron structures are expanded by modifying neuron weights and thresholds in artificial neural networks through adopting high dimensional space geometry cognition, which give more overall development space, and embodied further both commonalities.

In this paper, from the cognition science point of view, we constructed a neuron of multi-weighted neural network, and proposed a new method for iris recognition based on multi-weighted neuron. In this method, irises are trained as "cognition" one class by one class, and it doesn't influence the original recognition knowledge for samples of the new added class. The results of experiments show the correct rejection rate is 98.9%, the correct cognition rate and the error recognition rate are 95.71% and 3.5% respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the correct rejection rate of the test samples excluded in the classes of training samples is very high. It proves the proposed method for iris recognition is effective.

A time-varying controllable fault-tolerant field associative memory model and the realization algorithms are proposed. On the one hand, this model simulates the time-dependent changeability character of the fault-tolerant field of human brain's associative memory. On the other hand, fault-tolerant fields of the memory samples of the model can be controlled, and we can design proper fault-tolerant fields for memory samples at different time according to the essentiality of memory samples. Moreover, the model has realized the nonlinear association of infinite value pattern from n dimension space to m dimension space. And the fault-tolerant fields of the memory samples are full of the whole real space R-n. The simulation shows that the model has the above characters and the speed of associative memory about the model is faster.
