Through the reaction of Co-2(CO)(8) with four thiuram [R2NC(S)S](2), four new sulfur-capped trinuclear cobalt carbonyl clusters Co-3 (CO)(7) (mu(3)-S) (mu, eta(2)-S* C* NR2) ( I : R = Me; I : R = Et; II : R = i-Pr; IV : NR= -N [GRAPHICS] were prepared and characterized by elementary analysis, IR,H-1 NMR and MS spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the cluster Co-3(CO)(7)(mu(3)-S)[mu, eta(2)-S*C*N (i-Pr)(2)]( III) was determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction method. The crystal of m is monoclinic, belonging to space group P2(1)/n, and the cell parameters are as follows: a = 1, 145 2(2) nm, b = 1. 502 8(3) nm, c = 1, 214 4(2) nmj alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 92, 15(3)degrees, gamma = 90 degrees; V = 2. 088 5(7) nm(3) , Z = 4, F (000) = 1 096, D-c = 1. 747 mg . m(-3), mu = 2. 588 mm(-1), R=0. 040 7, R-w=0. 062 4, The structural analysis shows that cluster II has a pyrimidal Co3S framework and contains a heterocylic bridging bidentate ligand [mu, eta(2)-S* C* N (i-Pr)(2)] linked to the Co2 and Co3 atoms of the cluster by a cobalt-carbon and a cobalt-sulfur bond respectively.

Reaction of YbCl3 with 3 equimolar CpNa (Cp = cyclopentadienide) in THF, followed by treatment with trans-(+/-)-N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine led to the isolation of first mono(cyclopentadienyl) lanthanide Schiff base complex, [(eta(5)-C5H5)Yb(mu-OC20H20N2O)](2) (mu-THF)(THF) (1). The molecular structure of 1 shows that it is a dimer in which the two [(eta(5)-C5H5)Yb(mu-OC20H20N2O)] units connecting via a bridging THF oxygen and two bridging oxygen atoms from Schiff base ligands. Cp2SmCl(THF) reacts with 0.5 equivalent disodium salts of trans-(+/-)-N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine give the title complex [(eta(5)-C5H5)Sm(mu-OC20H20N2O)](2)(mu-THF)(THF)(2) (1). X-ray crystal determination shows that the molecule is a dimer, in which two (eta(5)C(5)H(5))Sm(mu-OC20H20N2O) units are connected via a THF oxygen and two bridging oxygen atoms of Schiff base ligands. The average Sm-C distance is 2.78(7) Angstrom, while those of Sm-O (bridging THF oxygen) and Schiff base oxygens are 2.79(3) and 2.43(4) Angstrom; respectively. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. The Nd-III ion in hexa-mu-chloro-1:2 kappa(2)Cl;1:3 kappa(2)Cl;1:4 kappa(2)Cl-hexachloro-2 kappa(2)Cl,3 kappa(2)Cl,4 kappa(2)Cl- [1 (eta(6))- toluene] trialuminiumneodymium has distorted pentagonal bipyramidal coordination geometry. Five Cl atoms form the equatorial plane, and the toluene ring and the sixth Cl atom occupy the apical sites. The average Nd-C(eta(6)) and Nd-Cl distances are 2.926 (5) and 2.857 (1) Angstrom, respectively.

The title compound, dichlorobis{eta(5)-[1-(3-methylbutyl)-cyclohex-1 -yl]cyclopentadienyl}zirconium(IV), [ZrCl2-(C16H25)(2)], has a pseudo-tetrahedral bent-metallocene structure in which the substituted cyclopentadienyl rings are asymmetrically bonded to the central Zr atom, due primarily to the interaction between the large substituents and the Cl atoms. The molecule has local C-2 symmetry with the substituents positioned in a trans arrangement and directed towards the lateral sectors of the bent-metallocene unit.

LnCl(3) reacted with C6H5CH2C5H4Na in THF (tetrahydrofuran) in the ratio 1.1 at room temperature for 1 h giving C(6)H(5)CH(2)C(6)H(4)LnCl(2) . nTHF, which reacted with C8H8K2/THF and the crystals obtained were recrystallized in DME to yield the title complex. The crystal structure of (C8H8) Ln (C6H5CH2C5H4). DME was determined revealing that the Gd complex has one conformation. One benzylcyclopentadienyl (eta(5)), one cyclooctatetraenyl (eta(8)) and the two oxygen atoms of DME (dimethoxyethane) are coordinated to Gd with the effective coordination number of 10.

The title molecule, [TiCl2(C5H5)(C18H21O)], has a pseudotetrahedral bent metallocene structure in which the cyclopentadienyl ring is symmetrically bonded to Ti [range of Ti-C distances 2.36(1)-2.41(1)Angstrom], but the substituted cyclopentadienyl ring adopts asymmetrical bonding [Ti-C 2.33(1)-2.48(1)Angstrom] due to the interaction of the large substituent with the Cl(2) atom. The angle C(11)-C(1)-C(21) is 111.1(8)degrees with the large substituent occupying a cis position with respect to the substituted ring.

The crystal structure of (C7H18N)(2)[ZnCl4] is composed of alternating layers of inorganic ions and paraffinic chains. It differs from the structures of analogous compounds that have a hydrocarbon chain containing an even number of C atoms. This may explain the odd-even effects observed in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements on these compounds.

The Mossbauer spectrum of a new organoeuropium complex with a neutral pi-ligand, Eu(eta6-C6Me6) (AlCl4)2, is measured at 88 K. The Mossbauer parameters derived from the spectrum show the divalent nature of the europium ion in this organoeuropium complex. The calculations of the electric field gradient at the Eu nucleus in the crystal indicate that the Eu-Cl bond in the compound may possess a certain covalent character. The low Debye temperature of this complex may be attributed to weak and delocalized pi-bonding between the Eu atom and the benzene ring of hexamethylbenzene, and a slow paramagnetic relaxation is suggested by the Mossbauer effect.
