White-light emission is achieved from a single layer of diblock copolymer micelles containing green- and red-light-emitting dyes in the separate micellar cores and blue-light-emitting polymer around their periphery, in which fluorescence resonance energy transfer between fluorophores is inhibited due to micelle isolation, resulting in simultaneous emission of these three species.

The product selectivity can be controlled by adding acetic acid in feed over vanadium phosphate (VPO) in gas phase oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH), in which cyclohexane and cyclohexene are oxidized to cyclohexene and 1,3-cyclohexadiene (1,3-CHD), respectively, at almost 100% selectivity. This approach is also an efficient method to capture the very unstable intermediates in the mechanism study.

A series of macrocyclic arylate dimers have been efficiently synthesized by an interfacial polycondensation of o-phthaloyl dichloride with bisphenols. A combination of GPC, FAB MS, and H-1 and C-13 NMR unambiguously confirmed the cyclic nature. Although single-crystal X-ray analysis of one such macrocycle reveals no severe strain on the cyclic structure, these macrocycles can undergo facile melt polymerization to give high molecular weight polyarylates.

A new model is proposed to estimate the significant wave heights with ERS-1/2 scatterometer data. The results show that the relationship between wave parameters and radar backscattering cross section is similar to that between wind and the radar backscattering cross section. Therefore, the relationship between significant wave height and the radar backscattering cross section is established with a neural network algorithm, which is, if the average wave period is <= 7s, the root mean square of significant wave height retrieved from ERS-1/2 data is 0.51 m, or 0.72 m if it is >7s otherwise.
