Three kinds of metal(II) tetraazaporphyrin complexes with blue-violet and red light wavelength absorption were synthesized by refluxing tetraazaporphyrin ligand and different metal(II) ions, respectively. Their structures were confirmed by elemental analysis, LDI-TOF-MS, FT-IR and UV-Vis. The solubility of metal(II) tetraazaporphyrin complexes in organic solvents and absorption properties of their chloroform solution and films on K9 glass in the region 250-800 nm were measured. The influence on the difference of absorption maximum from metal(II) tetraazaporphyrin complexes to tetraazaporphyrin ligand by different metal(II) ions was studied. In addition, the thermal stability of the complexes was also evaluated. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Er3+-doped TeO2-WO3 glass was fabricated and characterized by absorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum, Raman spectrum and stability. The Judd-Ofelt parameter ohm(t)(t = 2, 4, 6) were calculated from the absorption spectrum by the Judd-Ofelt theory. The fluorescence spectrum indicates that the fluorescence width at half-maximum (FWHM) is 66nm. The stimulated emission cross-section of Er3+ in TeO2-WO3 glass at 1532 nm was calculated to be 0.80 x 10(-20) cm(2) by McCumber theory. The phonon energy of TeO2-WO3 glass is found to be 931 cm(-1). The difference between crystallization onset temperature and glass transition temperature Delta T is 112 degrees C. These results show that Er3+-doped TeO2-WO3 glass has higher stability and good spectral properties, which were useful for broadband amplifier. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Tungsten-tellurite glass with molar composition of 60TeO(2)-30WO(3)-10Na(2)O has been investigated for developing planar broadband waveguide amplifier application. Spectroscopic properties and thermal stability of Er3+-doped tungsten-tellurite glass have been discussed. The results show that the introduction Of WO3 increases significantly the glass transition temperature and the maximum phonon energy. Er3+-doped tungsten-tellurite glass exhibits high glass transition temperature (377 degrees C), large emission cross-section (0.91 x 10(-20) cm(2)) at 1532 nm and broad full width at half maximum (FWHM), which make it preferable for broadband Er3+-doped waveguide amplifier application. Porous glass with high-SiO2 content was impregnated with Nd ions, and subsequently sintered at 1100 degrees C into a compact non-porous glass in air or reducing atmosphere. Sintering in a reducing atmosphere produced an intense violet-blue fluorescence at 394 nm. However, the sintering atmospheres almost did not affect the fluorescence properties in the infrared range. A good performance Nd3+-doped silica microchip laser operating at 1064 nm was demonstrated. The Nd-doped sintering glasses with high-SiO2 content are potential host materials for high power solid-state lasers and new transparent fluorescence materials. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. Tin oxide doped beta-Ga2O3 single crystals are recognized as transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) materials. They have a larger band gap (4.8 eV) than any other TCOs, thus can be transparent in UV region. This property shows that they have the potential to make the optoelectronic device used in even shorter wavelength than usual TCOs. beta-Ga2O3 single crystals doped with different Sn4+ concentrations were grown by the floating zone technique. Their optical properties and electrical conductivities were systematically studied. It has been found that their conductivities and optical properties were influenced by the Sn4+ concentrations and annealing. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Optical properties were investigated of ZnO thin films grown oil (100) gamma-LiAlO2 (LAO) substrates by pulsed laser deposition method. C-axis oriented ZnO film was grown oil (100) LAO substrate at the substrate temperature of 550 degrees C. The transmittances of the films were over 85%. Peaks attributed to excitons were seen in the absorption spectra, indicating that the thin films have high crystallinity. Photoluminescence spectra were observed at room temperature; the peak at 550 urn is ascribed to oxygen vacancies in the ZnO films caused by the diffusion of Li from the substrate into the film during deposition. TiO2 thin films are prepared on fused silica with conventional electron beam evaporation deposition. After annealed at different temperatures for 4h, the spectra and XRD patterns of the TiO2 thin film are obtained. Weak absorption of coatings is measured by the surface thermal lensing technique, and laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) is determined. It is found that with the increasing annealing temperature, the transmittance of TiO2 films decreases. Especially when coatings are annealed at high temperature over 1173K, the optical loss is very serious. Weak absorption detection indicates that the absorption of coatings decreases firstly and then increases, and the absorption and defects play major roles in the LIDT of TiO2 thin films.

Laser-induced damages to TiO2 single layers and TiO2/SiO2 high reflectors at laser wavelength of 1064 nm, 800 run, 532 urn, and pulse width of 12 ns, 220 ps, 50 fs, 8 ns are investigated. All films are prepared by electron beam evaporation. The relations among microstructure, chemical composition, optical properties and laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT), have been researched. The dependence of damage mechanism on laser wavelength and pulse width is discussed. It is found that from 1064 nm to 532 nm, LIDT is mainly absorption related, which is determined by film's extinction coefficient and stoichiometric defects. The rapid decrease of LIDT at 800 nm is due to the pulse width factor. TiO2 coatings are mainly thermally by damaged at long pulse (tau >= 220 ps). The damage shows ablation feature at 50 fs. The effects of working pressure on properties of Al2O3 thin films are investigated. Transmittance of the Al2O3 thin film is measured by a Lambda 900 spectrometer. Laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) is measured by a Nd:YAG laser at 355nm with a pulse width of 7ns. Microdefects were observed under a Nomarski microscope. The samples are characterized by optical properties and defect, as well as LIDT under the 355 nm Nd: YAG laser radiation. It is found that the working pressure has fundamental effect on the LIDT. It is the absorption rather than the microdefect that plays an important role on the LID T of Al2O3 thin film.

Ta2O5 films were deposited by conventional electron beam evaporation method and then annealed in air at different temperature from 873 to 1273 K. It was found that the film structure changed from amorphous phase to hexagonal phase when annealed at 1073 K, then transformed to orthorhombic phase after annealed at 1273 K. The transmittance was improved after annealed at 873 K, and it decreased as the annealing temperature increased further. The total integrated scattering (TIS) tests and AFM results showed that both scattering and root mean square (RMS) roughness of films increased with the annealing temperature increasing. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis showed that the film obtained better stoichiometry and the O/Ta ratio increased to 2.50 after annealing. It was found that the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) increased to the maximum when annealed at 873 K, while it decreased when the annealing temperature increased further. Detailed damaged models dominated by different parameters during annealing were discussed. (C) 2008 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.
