From social to political. New forms of mobilization and democratization. Conference proceedings

In the recent evolution of contemporary social movements three phases can be identified. The first phase is marked by the labour movement and the systemic importance attributed to the labour conflict in industrial societies. This conflict has been interpreted as a consequence of the shortcoming of social integration mechanisms by Emile Durkheim, as a rational conflict by entrepreneurs’ and workers’ interests by Max Wener, and as a central class struggle for the transformation of society by Karl Marx. The second phase in this development was led by the new social movements of the post-industrial society of the 1960s and 1970s’ students, women and environmentalist movements. Two new analytical perspectives have explained these movements’ meaning and actions. Resource mobilization theory (McAdam and Tilly) has focuses on rational attitudes and conflicts. Actionalist sociology, in turn, has identified the new protagonists of social conflicts that replaced the labour movement in postindustrial societies. The third phase emerges in a world characterized by the ascendance of markets, the increasingly prominent role of financial capital flows, the closure of communities, and fundamentalism. In this context, human rights and pro-democratization movements constitute alternatives to global domination and the systemic conditioning of individual and groups.

Wende und Körperdarstellung in Hensels Lärchenau

[EN] Kerstin Hensel’s literary universe is haunted by fallen heroes, outsiders and gregarious figures with no success. They experience the German Wende in a very peculiar constellation, they perceive Post-Unification Germany at times from a fantastic perspective, always from a painful experience. In this context the analysis of the representations of the body in Hensel’s narrative before and after 1989 offers a rich insight on Hensel’s critical view of Post-Unification Germany. By analysing her texts such as Hallimasch and Lärchenau this article shows that the suffering grotesque bodies in both works stand for a political metaphor of a social body with hardly a cure.

(Re)pensar la innovación en la universidad desde la indagación: la relación pedagógica en la universidad

La segunda edición de este encuentro vuelve a ser una oportunidad donde coincidir profesionales universitarios, para debatir y repensar la innovación educativa en la universidad. El trabajo sostenido tanto por el grupo Indaga-t de la Universidad de Barcelona, como por el grupo Elkarrikertuz de la Universidad del País Vasco, ha servido para impulsar y dinamizar diferentes redes de innovación y transformación docente. Esta experiencia nos ha llevado a plantear este encuentro en el que intercambiar conocimientos y experiencias con profesionales interesados en promover formas de relación pedagógica que vayan más allá de las novedades coyunturales y de los discursos dominantes. La edición de este libro digital pretende recoger la dinámica del encuentro además de las aportaciones que se hicieron.

Marcos de (re)producción de cuerpos sexuados. Normativas relativas a la identidad de género y a la mención registral del sexo

En este trabajo analizo cuáles son los supuestos epistemológicos y ontológicos de las recientes Leyes 3/2007 y 14/2012 en torno a la identidad de género y la transexualidad y cómo éstas forman parte del conjunto de dispositivos de poder y control tecno-biopolítico sobre las vidas de las personas. Comienzo por un recorrido teórico sobre la construcción de la categoría de sexo y género, continúo con los derechos sobre identidad de género y orientación sexual reconocidos a nivel internacional, trazo algunas de las distintas posturas y reivindicaciones de los movimientos sociales, después hago un breve recorrido por distintas normativas en torno al género en el Estado Español desde 1931 y finalmente termino con un análisis de las leyes española 3/2007 y la vasca 14/2012.

Political Institutions, Technology and Growth: a dynamic panel approach

This paper investigates whether the effect of political institutions on sectoral economic performance is determined by the level of technological development of industries. Building on previous studies on the linkages among political institutions, technology and economic growth, we employ the dynamic panel Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimator for a sample of 4,134 country-industries from 61 industries and 89 countries over the 1990-2010 period. Our main findings suggest that changes of political institutions towards higher levels of democracy, political rights and civil liberties enhance economic growth in technologically developed industries. On the contrary, the same institutional changes might retard economic growth of those industries that are below a technological development threshold. Overall, these results give evidence of a technologically conditioned nature of political institutions to be growth-promoting.
