ENGLISH: A study has been made of the distributions of the 28 species of Chaetognatha in the waters off Peru and southern Ecuador, based primarily on data from oceanographic surveys carried out between 1958 and 1961 by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the Institute of Marine Resources Research and Consejo de Investigaciones Hidrobiologicas of Peru. Data from expeditions previous to 1958 also were used to aid in the interpretation of these materials. The fishing resources of the Salado Basin are extraordinary important in the context of the inland waters of Argentina. However, the diversity of landscapes in the basin and the lack of continuity in the regional planning , have made difficult a proper management of the fishing resources. This paper has a general overview of the main aspects related to the fishing fauna of the region, with a natural point of view of the processes and mechanisms of the management. A description of the fishes basin community and the identification of the species with commercial and game interests is included . We describe the different fishing gears used in the province for game, commercial and scientific fishing. We review the criteria of diagnosis of the silver side population as a main resource of fishing interest and under this point of view we propose new outlooks to promote a proper management of the resources and its sustainable use. We identify the different kinds of fisheries that are common in the basin and we make a survey of the related socioeconomic aspects. Moreover, we analyze the development of a new institutional and regulatory frame in order to optimize the management of the fishing resources. Finally, we define criteria for ordering and conserving such resources and identify conflict points and requirements for its sustainable use in the context of new proposals for the public policies.

This paper deals with the Calanoidean Copepod of the Mar del Plata area (Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina) which were obtained in 71 starions during 5 oceanographic cruises performed on April, August-September and December, 1963 and on March and May, 1964. The area under study ranges from 37°20' to 38°45' L.S. and from 56°30' to 58°10' L.W. The samples were gathered from coastal, surface waters. Quantitative data could not be obtaine, except for and estimation of the time of flow through the plakton net. A total of 13 species of Calanoid Copepods were found. The species found were described, and drawings were made of those structures wich ere considered of taxonomic value. Data were included on the geographic distribution, with emphasis on South Atlantic and areas Antarctic.

The description of the embryonic and early larval stages of three species of marine fishes: the anhovy, Anchoa marinii, the menhaden Brevoortia aurea and the gurnard, Prionotus nudigula is given. The time required from the fertilization to the hatching for each species was calculated. The eggs of these three species are found in the plankton collected in the zone situated in the vicinity of Mar del Plata. The eggs are only found in the plancton which was close to the shore. The anchoa marinii eggs are found in the sea from the middle of December at a water temperature of approximately 16,0°C to the end of April. Their greatest concentration takes place in January at 20,0-21,0°C. The eggs of Brevoortia aurea are found in the plakton from the beginning of October at a water temperature of approximately 10,0°C to the middle of December. Their greatest concentration takes place in November at 13,0-15,0°C. Only once were the menhaden's eggs can be found in the sea from the middle of November at the water temperature of aproximately 13,0° to the end of April. Their greatest concentration takes place in January and February at 20,0-21,0°C.

Data collected during a survey conducted by the Soviet trawler Sebastopolsky rybak , in January 1987, covering the Boa-Paz area, Mozambique, were analysed. The biomass of demersal fish was found to be higher than the one of pelagic fish. The most representative group among the demersals was the first grade fish, where the families Sparidae, Lethrinidae, Lutjanidae and Serranidae were included, corresponding to a biomass of about 3,500 tonnes. In the pelagics the family Carangidae was the most important one and the species Decapterus russelli and Trachurus trachurus showed the highest biomass estimates in this family.

Catch evolution, fish yield and specific composition of commercial catches as well as biomass reduction of the main species exploited were analysed and the stock assessments of horse and chub mackerels in the Sofala and Boa-Paz Banks were examined for the period 1986 to the first half of 1989.
