Mr. G. Ranson found a small collection of plankton in Nha Trang (Vietnam), during a mission in the Far East. The samples were harvested in the Bay of Cauda at a water depth of 15-20 m. The author examined a number of samples kept in formalin, extremely rich in diatoms and in good condition. The group of pelagic copepods has been the most carefully studied.

The comparative study of the vegetation of the hills of Cauda, in their unprotected and protected parts shows that on the unprotected part the vegetation is of the maquis type with the absence of the arborescent stratum and the shrub stratum is often spiny. On the contrary the protected part presents a development of the arborescent stratum; but the floristic composition of the two parts is not very different many species are identical. The evolution towards the climax seems slow on these rhyolite hills with the semi-protection.

The present study deals with the revision of the ichtyological work made by G. Tirant in 1929. After several years the first work required an updating of scientific names and classifications. The order followed in presenting species is the same used by Mr. Tirant and even the same large groups have been adopted such as fishes from the coast of Hué, fishes from Samrong-Tong, fishes from Cochinchina and Cambodia.
