The efficiency of power optimization tools depends on information on design power provided by the power estimation models. Power models targeting different power groups can enable fast identification of the most power consuming parts of design and their properties. The accuracy of these estimation models is highly dependent on the accuracy of the method used for their characterization. The highest precision is achieved by using physical onboard measurements. In this paper, we present a measurement methodology that is primarily aimed at calibrating and validating high-level dynamic power estimation models. The measurements have been carefully designed to enable the separation of the interconnect power from the logic power and the power of the clock circuitry, so that each of these power groups can be used for the corresponding model validation. The standard measurement uncertainty is lower than 2% of the measured value even with a very small number of repeated measurements. Additionally, the accuracy of a commercial low-level power estimation tool has been also assessed for comparison purposes. The results indicate that the tool is not suitable for power estimation of data path-oriented designs.

The object of this work is to provide a deep view about the core network inside next generation network (NGN) and how the evolution of the current comunications networks towards the concepts introduced by these new networks brings a change in the way of think and develop communications networks of the future. This work is composed of three blocks and one real case and it starts with the analysis of the evolution of the core network in digital mobile comunications networks since the beginning of the digital mobile comunications networks deployments until nowadays both in core network side and access network side and how the providers have made changes inside their comunications infrastructure and how they interconnect them with other networks. A second part which is the central theoretical part of this work where it is studied the next generation network models stablished by telecomunications associations and how they will be the next step in the evolution of comunications networks towards a common network infrastructure for all existing access networks. A third part where it is studied the level of transformation that core network in mobile and terrestrial comunications networks have to experienced since current situation up to next generation scenarios and what it is the impact of these changes, the issues that are arising for developers, manufactures and service providers in this process, the way that these changes will improve and shift telecomunications business models and how the current economic and technological context is influencing in the whole process. Finally it is studied a actual case about a proposed solution by a manufacturer that based on the models exposed in second part take place a integration and interconection process in a the comercial network of one telecomunication service providers in Spain. This final part regards to all implications associated with this specific case.

This paper presents a study in which the relationship between basic subjects (Mathematics and Physics) and applied engineering subjects (related to Machinery, Electrical Engineering, Topography and Buildings) in higher engineering education curricula is evaluated. The analysis has been conducted using the academic records of 206 students for five years. Furthermore, 34 surveys and personal interviews were conducted to analyze the connections between the contents taught in each subject and to identify student perceptions of the correlation with other subjects or disciplines. At the same time, the content of the different subjects have been analyzed to verify the relationship among the disciplines.Aproper coordination among subjects will allow students to relate and interconnect topics of different subjects, even with the ones learnt in previous courses, while also helping to reduce dropout rates and student failures in successfully accomplishing the different courses.

The Internet of Things makes use of a huge disparity of technologies at very different levels that help one to the other to accomplish goals that were previously regarded as unthinkable in terms of ubiquity or scalability. If the Internet of Things is expected to interconnect every day devices or appliances and enable communications between them, a broad range of new services, applications and products can be foreseen. For example, monitoring is a process where sensors have widespread use for measuring environmental parameters (temperature, light, chemical agents, etc.) but obtaining readings at the exact physical point they want to be obtained from, or about the exact wanted parameter can be a clumsy, time-consuming task that is not easily adaptable to new requirements. In order to tackle this challenge, a proposal on a system used to monitor any conceivable environment, which additionally is able to monitor the status of its own components and heal some of the most usual issues of a Wireless Sensor Network, is presented here in detail, covering all the layers that give it shape in terms of devices, communications or services.

A new complete formulation is proposed for the simulation of nonlinear dynamic of multibody systems with thermo-mechanical behaviour. The approach is founded in three main pillars: total Lagrangian formulation, Bubnov-Galerkin discretization, and meshfree shape functions. Meshfree methods are characterized by the definition of a set of shape functions in overlapping domains, and a background grid for integration of the Galerkin discrete equations. Two different types of shape functions have been chosen as representatives of interpolation (Radial Basis Functions), and approximation (Moving Least Squares) families. Their formulation has been adapted to use compatible parameters, and their lack of predefined connectivity is used to interconnect different domains seamlessly, allowing the use of non-conforming meshes. A generalized formulation for constraints, joints, and contacts is proposed, which is valid for rigid and flexible solids, being the later discretized using either finite elements (FEM) or meshfree methods. The greatest advantage of this approach is that makes the domain completely independent of the external links and actions, allowing to even define them outside of the boundary. At the same time, the number of constraint equations needed for defining realistic joints is minimized. Validation, examples, and benchmarks are provided for the proposed formulation, demonstrating that the approach is generic and extensible to further problems. Comparisons with FEM show a much lower error for the same number of nodes, both for mechanical and thermal analyses. The numerical efficiency is also better when coarse discretizations are used. A final demonstration to a real problem for handling massive structures inside of a fusion reactor is presented. It demonstrates that the application of meshfree methods is feasible and can provide an advantage towards the definition of nonlinear real-time simulation models.

ABSTRACT. The current trend is to integrate the devices into a platform with a friendly environment, using web services, understanding web service as a set of protocols and standards used for exchanging data between applications. They allow interoperability between different vendor’s platforms and can interconnect software and services from different companies located in geographically dispersed locations. DPWS (Devices Profile for Web Services) is a set of guidelines designed to allow devices to 'discover' each other within the network and to invoke their services. In the future the web as well as connecting millions of people, also will connect millions of devices. This project focuses on improving the security system for a device that implements the standard DPWS; information encryption and a hash code, being a brief summary of all information that represents the document uniquely.

We present results for quadruple-junction inverted metamorphic (4J-IMM) devices under the concentrated direct spectrum and analyze the present limitations to performance. The devices integrate lattice-matched subcells with rear heterojunctions, as well as lattice-mismatched subcells with low threading dislocation density. To interconnect the subcells, thermally stable lattice-matched tunnel junctions are used, as well as a metamorphic GaAsSb/GaInAs tunnel junction between the lattice-mismatched subcells. A broadband antireflection coating is used, as well as a front metal grid designed for high concentration operation. The best device has a peak efficiency of (43.8 ± 2.2)% at 327-sun concentration, as measured with a spectrally adjustable flash simulator, and maintains an efficiency of (42.9 ± 2.1)% at 869 suns, which is the highest concentration measured. The Voc increases from 3.445 V at 1-sun to 4.10 V at 327-sun concentration, which indicates high material quality in all of the subcells. The subcell voltages are analyzed using optical modeling, and the present device limitations and pathways to improvement are discussed. Although further improvements are possible, the 4J-IMM structure is clearly capable of very high efficiency at concentration, despite the complications arising from utilizing lattice-mismatched subcells.
