A method to analyze parabolic reflectors with arbitrary piecewise rim is presented in this communication. This kind of reflectors, when operating as collimators in compact range facilities, needs to be large in terms of wavelength. Their analysis is very inefficient, when it is carried out with fullwave/MoM techniques, and it is not very appropriate for designing with PO techniques. Also, fast GO formulations do not offer enough accuracy to reach performance results. The proposed algorithm is based on a GO-PWS hybrid scheme, using analytical as well as non-analytical formulations. On one side, an analytical treatment of the polygonal rim reflectors is carried out. On the other side, non-analytical calculi are based on efficient operations, such as M2 order 2-dimensional FFT. A combination of these two techniques in the algorithm ensures real ad-hoc design capabilities, reached through analysis speedup. The purpose of the algorithm is to obtain an optimal conformal serrated-edge reflector design through the analysis of the field quality within the quiet zone that it is able to generate in its forward half space.

The objective of this thesis is model some processes from the nature as evolution and co-evolution, and proposing some techniques that can ensure that these learning process really happens and useful to solve some complex problems as Go game. The Go game is ancient and very complex game with simple rules which still is a challenge for the Artificial Intelligence. This dissertation cover some approaches that were applied to solve this problem, proposing solve this problem using competitive and cooperative co-evolutionary learning methods and other techniques proposed by the author. To study, implement and prove these methods were used some neural networks structures, a framework free available and coded many programs. The techniques proposed were coded by the author, performed many experiments to find the best configuration to ensure that co-evolution is progressing and discussed the results. Using co-evolutionary learning processes can be observed some pathologies which could impact co-evolution progress. In this dissertation is introduced some techniques to solve pathologies as loss of gradients, cycling dynamics and forgetting. According to some authors, one solution to solve these co-evolution pathologies is introduce more diversity in populations that are evolving. In this thesis is proposed some techniques to introduce more diversity and some diversity measurements for neural networks structures to monitor diversity during co-evolution. The genotype diversity evolved were analyzed in terms of its impact to global fitness of the strategies evolved and their generalization. Additionally, it was introduced a memory mechanism in the network neural structures to reinforce some strategies in the genes of the neurons evolved with the intention that some good strategies learned are not forgotten. In this dissertation is presented some works from other authors in which cooperative and competitive co-evolution has been applied. The Go board size used in this thesis was 9x9, but can be easily escalated to more bigger boards. The author believe that programs coded and techniques introduced in this dissertation can be used for other domains.

The aim of this work was twofold: on the one hand, to describe a comparative study of two intelligent control techniques-fuzzy and intelligent proportional-integral (PI) control, and on the other, to try to provide an answer to an as yet unsolved topic in the automotive sector-stop-and-go control in urban environments at very low speeds. Commercial vehicles exhibit nonlinear behavior and therefore constitute an excellent platform on which to check the controllers. This paper describes the design, tuning, and evaluation of the controllers performing actions on the longitudinal control of a car-the throttle and brake pedals-to accomplish stop-and-go manoeuvres. They are tested in two steps. First, a simulation model is used to design and tune the controllers, and second, these controllers are implemented in the commercial vehicle-which has automatic driving capabilities-to check their behavior. A stop-and-go manoeuvre is implemented with the two control techniques using two cooperating vehicles.

Abstract Networks are the substance of human communities and societies; they constitute the structural framework on which we relate to each other and determine the way we do it, the way information is diseminated or even the way people get things done. But network prominence goes beyond the importance it acquires in social networks. Networks are found within numerous known structures, from protein interactions inside a cell to router connections on the internet. Social networks are present on the internet since its beginnings, in emails for example. Inside every email client, there are contact lists that added together constitute a social network. However, it has been with the emergence of social network sites (SNS) when these kinds of web applications have reached general awareness. SNS are now among the most popular sites in the web and with the higher traffic. Sites such as Facebook and Twitter hold astonishing figures of active users, traffic and time invested into the sites. Nevertheless, SNS functionalities are not restricted to contact-oriented social networks, those that are focused on building your own list of contacts and interacting with them. There are other examples of sites that leverage social networking to foster user activity and engagement around other types of content. Examples go from early SNS such as Flickr, the photography related networking site, to Github, the most popular social network repository nowadays. It is not an accident that the popularity of these websites comes hand-in-hand with their social network capabilities The scenario is even richer, due to the fact that SNS interact with each other, sharing and exporting contact lists and authentication as well as providing a valuable channel to publize user activity in other sites. These interactions are very recent and they are still finding their way to the point where SNS overcome their condition of data silos to a stage of full interoperability between sites, in the same way email and instant messaging networks work today. This work introduces a technology that allows to rapidly build any kind of distributed social network website. It first introduces a new technique to create middleware that can provide any kind of content management feature to a popular model-view-controller (MVC) web development framework, Ruby on Rails. It provides developers with tools that allow them to abstract from the complexities related with content management and focus on the development of specific content. This same technique is also used to provide the framework with social network features. Additionally, it describes a new metric of code reuse to assert the validity of the kind of middleware that is emerging in MVC frameworks. Secondly, the characteristics of top popular SNS are analysed in order to find the common patterns shown in them. This analysis is the ground for defining the requirements of a framework for building social network websites. Next, a reference architecture for supporting the features found in the analysis is proposed. This architecture has been implemented in a software component, called Social Stream, and tested in several social networks, both contact- and content-oriented, in local neighbourhood associations and EU-founded research projects. It has also been the ground for several Master’s theses. It has been released as a free and open source software that has obtained a growing community and that is now being used beyond the scope of this work. The social architecture has enabled the definition of a new social-based access control model that overcomes some of the limitations currenly present in access control models for social networks. Furthermore, paradigms and case studies in distributed SNS have been analysed, gathering a set of features for distributed social networking. Finally the architecture of the framework has been extended to support distributed SNS capabilities. Its implementation has also been validated in EU-founded research projects.

ABSTRACT The present work, aims to fill a void existing in terms of a general methodology in Archaeoacoustic studies for the Mesoamerican region. The most important result of this thesis is the proposal of a procedure and method for archaeoacoustical studies and its relevant analysis and parameters (of which stand out the energy decay, reverberation times, intensities, clarity and intelligibility), simulations and uncertainty considerations for the effective and useful integration of the sound dimension in the archaeological realm. An important methodological consideration in the present work is the comparison and contrast of the results obtained experimentally on site, and the results of simulations and computer modeling. The proposed systematization is divided into three distinct moments: logistics; fieldwork; and result analysis. Likewise, the presented methodological proposal is divided into three fundamental objects of study: Sound phenomena found in archaeological sites; sound generation objects and instruments; and architectural enclosures and the study of their functionality. Presenting case studies is the approach to the description of each of these branches. Two interrelated Mesoamerican cultural areas are considered, the Bajío and the Mayan. Their contrast is carried out by the acoustic analysis of four archaeological sites: Plazuelas, Peralta and Cañada de la Virgen, belonging to the area of the Bajío, and Chichen Itza belonging to the Maya area. Of particular relevance to this paper, is the acoustic functionality of the public spaces present in many archaeological sites, specifically that of the sunken patios, characteristic of the architecture of the Bajío. The analysis of the sound generation instruments has allowed certain inferences about the role of sound in human behavior of the cultures in question, thus completing the acoustic models. It has also enable the contrast of the characteristics of the sound sources and those of the resonant spaces. The results of this thesis have made it possible to develop and validate certain hypotheses about the uses and functions of certain spaces for public and social events as well as for mass cultural representations.

As a result of the appearance of processors equipped with multiple "cores ", parallel programming, a concept which, moreover, it was not new and it was known for decades, suffered a new impulse, because it was believed they could overcome the technological ceiling had been limiting the performance of this program for years. This impulse has been maintained until today, driven by the need for ever more powerful systems and thanks to the decrease in manufacturing costs. This trend has led to the emergence of new software and languages with components guided specifically to the field of parallel programming. This is the case of Go language, developed by Google and released in 2009. This language is based on concurrency models that make it well suited to tackle developments in parallel nature. However, parallel programming is a complex and heterogeneous field, and developers are reluctant to use new tools to benefit those who already know and are familiar. A good example are those implementations from well-known languages, but parallel programming oriented, and witch follow the guidelines of a standard widely recognized and accepted. This is the case of the OpenMP standard, an application programming interface (API), flexible, portable and scalable, parallel programming oriented, and designed for multi-core architectures. This standard currently has implementations in C, C ++ and Fortran. This project was born as an attempt to combine two concepts: an emerging language, with interesting possibilities in the field of parallel programming, and a reputed and widespread standard, with which programmers are familiar with. The main objective is to develop a set of system libraries (which includes compiler directives or pragmas, runtime libraries and environment variables), supported by the characteristics and concurrency patterns of Go; and that add custom features from the OpenMP standard. The idea is to add features that allow programming in Go language using the syntax OpenMP provides for other languages, like Fortran and C / C ++ (specifically, similar to the latter ), and, in this way, provide Go users with tools for programming parallel structures easily and, in the same way they would using C / C ++.

O simplemente queremos viajar a otra ciudad o país y no sabemos dónde podemos ir a comer, o dónde encontrar la comida típica. ABSTRACT Currently, there are a huge amount of different restaurants around the world, and they are different for their type of food, which is specific of each country or city, for the way they offer their services or for the thematic they present to the customers. Every day, millions of people search for the perfect restaurant where they can enjoy their breakfast, lunch or dinner, on their own or in company of others. Sometimes it is not easy to find new places to go, getting away from the routine of the day-to-day. Or simply we want to travel to another country or city and we don’t know where we can go out for a meal, or where we can find the typical food. On the other hand, sometimes the restaurants find it hard to make themselves known or to promote their food. From this proposal appears the idea of making a web application where the restaurants could create an account and customize it so it is faithful to the image of the establishment and it is not just one more web page among miles of restaurants. In addition, this application will be the perfect way for people to search that place where they want to go to enjoy their meal, in a fast and efficient way and everything through the same web page.
