The influence of CP content and ingredient complexity, feed form, and duration of feeding of the Phase I diets on growth performance and total tract apparent digestibility -TTAD- of energy and nutrients was studied in Iberian pigs weaned at 28 d of age. There were 12 dietary treatments with 2 type of feeds -high-quality, HQ; and low-quality, LQ-, 2 feed forms -pellets vs. mash-, and 3 durations -7, 14, and 21 d- of supply of the Phase I diets.

The effects of fiber inclusion, feed form, and energy concentration of the diet on the growth performance of pullets from hatching to 5 wk age were studied in 2 experiments. In Experiment 1, there was a control diet based on cereals and soybean meal, and 6 extra diets that included 2 or 4% of cereal straw, sugar beet pulp (SBP), or sunflower hulls (SFHs) at the expense (wt/wt) of the whole control diet. From hatching to 5 wk age fiber inclusion increased (P < 0.05) ADG and ADFI, and improved (P < 0.05) energy efficiency (EnE; kcal AMEn/g ADG), but body weight (BW) uniformity was not affected. Pullets fed SFH tended to have higher ADG than pullets fed SBP (P = 0.072) with pullets fed straw being intermediate. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was better (P < 0.05) with 2% than with 4% fiber inclusion. In Experiment 2, 10 diets were arranged as a 2×5 factorial with 2 feed forms (mash vs. crumbles) and 5 levels of AMEn (2,850, 2,900, 2,950, 3,000, and 3,050 kcal/kg). Pullets fed crumbles were heavier and had better FCR than pullets fed mash (P < 0.001). An increase in the energy content of the crumble diets reduced ADFI and improved FCR linearly, but no effects were detected with the mash diets (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05 for the interactions). Feeding crumbles tended to improve BW uniformity at 5 wk age (P = 0.077) but no effects were detected with increases in energy concentration of the diet. In summary, the inclusion of moderate amounts of fiber in the diet improves pullet performance from hatching to 5 wk age. The response of pullets to increases in energy content of the diet depends on feed form with a decrease in feed intake when fed crumbles but no changes when fed mash. Feeding crumbles might be preferred to feeding mash in pullets from hatching to 5 wk age.

The influence of feed form and energy concentration of the diet on growth performance and the development of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) was studied in brown-egg laying pullets. Diets formed a 2 x 5 factorial with 2 feed forms (mash vs. crumbles) and 5 levels of energy differing in 50 kcal AMEn/kg. For the entire study (0 to 17 wk of age) feeding crumbles increased ADFI (52.9 vs. 49.7 g; P < 0.001) and ADG (12.7 vs. 11.6 g; P < 0.001) and improved feed conversion ratio (FCR; 4.18 vs. 4.27; P < 0.001). An increase in the energy content of the diet decreased ADFI linearly (P < 0.001) and improved FCR quadratically (P < 0.01) but energy intake (kcal AMEn/d) was not affected. BW uniformity was higher (P < 0.05) in pullets fed crumbles than in those fed mash but was not affected (P > 0.05) by energy content of the diet. At 5, 10, and 17 wk of age, the relative weight (RW, % BW) of the GIT and the gizzard, and gizzard digesta content were lower (P < 0.05 to P < 0.001) and gizzard pH was higher (P < 0.05 to P < 0.001) in pullets fed crumbles than in pullets fed mash. Energy concentration of the diet did not affect any of the GIT variables studied. In summary, feeding crumbles improved pullet performance and reduced the RW of the GIT and gizzard, and increased gizzard pH at all ages. An increase in the energy content of the diet improved FCR from 0 to 17 wk of age. The use of crumbles and the increase in the AMEn content of the diet might be used adventageously when the objetive is to increase the BW of the pullets. However, crumbles affected the development and weight of the organs of the GIT, which might have negative effects on feed intake and egg production at the beginning of the egg laying cycle.

One of the advantages of social networks is the possibility to socialize and personalize the content created or shared by the users. In mobile social networks, where the devices have limited capabilities in terms of screen size and computing power, Multimedia Recommender Systems help to present the most relevant content to the users, depending on their tastes, relationships and profile. Previous recommender systems are not able to cope with the uncertainty of automated tagging and are knowledge domain dependant. In addition, the instantiation of a recommender in this domain should cope with problems arising from the collaborative filtering inherent nature (cold start, banana problem, large number of users to run, etc.). The solution presented in this paper addresses the abovementioned problems by proposing a hybrid image recommender system, which combines collaborative filtering (social techniques) with content-based techniques, leaving the user the liberty to give these processes a personal weight. It takes into account aesthetics and the formal characteristics of the images to overcome the problems of current techniques, improving the performance of existing systems to create a mobile social networks recommender with a high degree of adaptation to any kind of user.

This paper aims to outline a theory-based Content and Language Integrated Learning course and to establish the rationale for adopting a holistic approach to the teaching of languages in tertiary education. Our work focuses on the interdependence between Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in particular regarding the learning of English within the framework of Telecommunications Engineering. The study first analyses the diverse components of the instructional approach and the extent to which this approach interrelates with technologies within the context of what we have defined as a holistic experience, since it also aims to develop a set of generic competences or transferable skills. Second, an example of a course project framed in this holistic approach is described in order to exemplify the specific actions suggested for learner autonomy and CLIL. The approach provides both an adequate framework as well as the conditions needed to carry out a lifelong learning experience within our context, a Spanish School of Engineering. In addition to specialized language and content, the approach integrates the learning of skills and capacities required by the new plans that have been established following the Bologna Declaration in 1999.

Examples of large size problems that can be reduced to those more suitable to be handled by a personal related axisyrometric finite elements, local unaxisymmetric shells, geometric quasi-regular shells, infinite elements and homogenization techniques are described

The influence of the main cereal and feed form of the diet on performance and digestive tract traits was studied in 576 brown-egg laying pullets from 1 to 120 d of age. From 1 to 45 d of age, 4 diets arranged factorially with 2 cereals (corn vs. wheat) and 2 feed forms (mash vs. pellets) were used. Each treatment was replicated 6 times (24 pullets per replicate). From 46 to 120 d of age, all diets were offered in mash form and the only difference among diets was the cereal used. Cumulatively, pullets fed the corn diets had higher BW gain (P < 0.05) but similar feed conversion ratio as pullets fed the wheat diets. From 1 to 45 d of age, pullets fed pellets consumed more feed (P < 0.001) and had higher BW gain (P < 0.001) than those fed mash. Most of the beneficial effects of pelleting on productive performance were still evident at 120 d of age. At 45 d of age, gizzard weight (g/kg of BW) was higher (P < 0.01) in pullets fed corn than in pullets fed wheat diets. Feeding pellets reduced the relative weight of the digestive tract and the gizzard (P < 0.001) as well as the length (cm/kg of BW) of the small intestine (P < 0.01) at both ages. The pH of gizzard contents at 120 d of age was not affected by cereal but was lower in pullets that were fed mash from 1 to 45 d of age (P < 0.01). We conclude that wheat can be used in substitution of corn in pullet diets with only a slight reduction in BW gain and that feeding pellets from 1 to 45 d of age increased BW gain and pH of the gizzard and reduced the relative weight of the gizzard and the length of the gastrointestinal tract at 120 d of age.

The use of fly ash (FA) as an admixture to concrete is broadly extended for two main reasons: the reduction of costs that supposes the substitution of cement and the micro structural changes motivated by the mineral admixture. Regarding this second point, there is a consensus that considers that the ash generates a more compact concrete and a reduction in the size of the pore. However, the measure in which this contributes to the pozzolanic activity or as filler is not well defined. There is also no justification to the influence of the physical parameters, fineness of the grain and free water, in its behavior. This work studies the use of FA as a partial substitute of the cement in concretes of different workability (dry and wet) and the influence in the reactivity of the ash. The concrete of dry consistency which serves as reference uses a cement dose of 250 Kg/m 3 and the concrete of fluid consistency utilized a dose of cement of 350 Kg/m 3 . Two trademark of Portland Cement Type 1 were used. The first reached the resistant class for its fineness of grain and the second one for its composition. Moreover, three doses of FA have been used, and the water/binder ratio was constant in all the mixtures. We have studied the mechanical properties and the micro-structure of the concretes by means of compressive strength tests, mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and thermal analysis (TA). The results of compressive strength tests allow us to observe that concrete mixtures with cements of the same classification and similar dosage of binder do not present the same mechanical behavior. These results show that the effective water/binder ratio has a major role in the development of the mechanical properties of concrete. The study of different dosages using TA, thermo-gravimetry and differential thermal analysis, revealed that the portlandite content is not restrictive in any of the dosages studied. Again, this proves that the rheology of the material influences the reaction rate and content of hydrated cement products. We conclude that the available free water is determinant in the efficiency of pozzolanic reaction. It is so that in accordance to the availability of free water, the ashes can react as an active admixture or simply change the porous distribution. The MIP shows concretes that do not exhibit significant changes in their mechanical behavior, but have suffered significant variation in their porous structure

El objetivo general de esta Tesis doctoral fue estudiar la influencia de diversos factores nutricionales sobre los parámetros productivos y el desarrollo del tracto digestivo de pollitas rubias destinadas a la producción de huevos comerciales. Para alcanzar este objetivo se realizaron tres experimentos donde se estudió el cereal principal, el tamaño de partícula del cereal y el nivel de energía y la presentación de los piensos. En el experimento 1 se estudió la influencia del cereal (piensos con enzimas) y la presentación del pienso sobre los parámetros productivos y las características del tracto digestivo en 576 pollitas rubias de 1 a 120 d de edad. De 1 a 45 d de la edad, se utilizaron 4 piensos experimentales organizados de forma factorial con 2 cereales al 50% de inclusión (maíz vs. trigo) y 2 presentaciones del pienso (harina vs. gránulo de 2- mm de diámetro). Cada tratamiento se replicó 6 veces (24 pollitas por réplica). De 46 a 120 d de edad todas las dietas (maíz o trigo) se ofrecieron en harina y por tanto, la única diferencia entre tratamientos fue el cereal utilizado. De 1 a 120 d de edad, las pollitas que recibieron los piensos basados en maíz tuvieron una ganancia de peso vivo (PV) superior (P < 0,05) que las que recibieron los piensos basados en trigo, pero el índice de conversión (IC) fue similar para ambos grupos. De 1 a 45 d de edad, las pollitas alimentadas con gránulo consumieron más pienso (P < 0,001) y tuvieron una ganancia de peso superior (P < 0,001) que las pollitas alimentadas con harina. Gran parte de los efectos beneficiosos de la granulación sobre los parámetros productivos se mantuvieron al final de la prueba (120 d de edad). A los 45 d de edad, el peso relativo de la molleja (PR; g/kg PV) fue superior (P < 0,01) en pollitas alimentadas con maíz que en pollitas alimentadas con trigo. La alimentación en gránulo redujo el PR del tracto gastro intestinal (TGI) y de la molleja (P < 0,001), así como la longitud relativa (LR; cm/kg PV) del intestino delgado (P< 0.01) a ambas edades (45 y 120 d de edad). El tipo de cereal utilizado no afectó al pH del contenido de la molleja a 120 d de edad pero fué inferior (P < 0,01) en las pollitas que recibieron el pienso en harina de 1 a 45 d de la edad que en las que recibieron el pienso en gránulo. Se concluye que el trigo puede substituir al maíz en piensos para pollitas si se acepta una ligera reducción en la ganancia de peso. Asímismo, la alimentación en gránulo de 1 a 45 d de edad aumentó la ganancia de peso a esta edad y al final de la prueba, así como el pH de la molleja a 120 d de edad. La presentación del pienso en gránulo redujo el PR de la molleja y la LR del TGI a 120 d de edad. En el experimento 2 se utilizaron un total de 864 pollitas rubias Hy-Line de 1 d de edad para estudiar la influencia del cereal de la dieta (500 g de maíz o trigo/kg) y el tamaño de partícula del mismo (molienda con molino de martillos con un diámetro de criba de 6, 8, o 10-mm) sobre los parámetros productivos y las características del TGI de 1 a 120 d de edad. Cada uno de los 6 tratamientos se replicó 6 veces (24 pollitas por réplica). De 1 a 45 d de edad, la ganancia de PV aumentó (P< 0,001) y el IC se mejoró (P < 0,05) al reducir el tamaño de partícula del cereal, pero no se observaron diferencias en el periodo crecimiento de 45 a 120 d de edad. A los 45 d de vida, las pollitas alimentadas con maíz tendieron (P < 0,10) a tener un mayor PR del TGI y del proventrículo y una mayor LR del intestino delgado que las pollitas alimentadas con trigo. Asímismo, el PR del TGI a esta edad, aumentó (P < 0,05) a medida que aumentaba el tamaño de partícula del cereal utilizado. A los 120 d de edad, el tratamiento no afectó el PR de ninguno de los órganos del TGI ni al pH de la molleja. Sin embargo, la LR del intestino delgado fue superior (P < 0,05) para las pollitas alimentadas con trigo que para las pollitas alimentadas con maíz. La LR del TGI se redujó (P < 0,05) al aumentar el tamaño de partícula del cereal. Se concluye que el trigo puede incluirse 500 g/kg en piensos de pollitas de 1 a 120 días de edad y que el tamaño de partícula de los cereales afecta el crecimiento de las pollitas durante los primeros 45 d de vida, pero no después. Por lo tanto, se recomienda moler el cereal utilizado al inicio del período de recría (1 a 45 d de edad) con una criba de diámetro igual o inferior a 8 mm. En el experimento 3 se utilizaron un total de 1.152 pollitas rubias Hy-Line de 1 d de edad para estudiar la influencia del nivel de energía de la dieta y la presentación del pienso sobre la productividad y las características del TGI. De 1 a 45 d de edad se utilizaron 6 piensos organizados de forma factorial con 3 concentraciones energéticas (baja: 11,44 MJ; media: 12,05 MJ y alta: 12,66 MJ/kg) y 2 presentaciones del pienso (harina vs. gránulo). De 45 a 120 d todos los piensos experimentales se suministraron en forma de harina y por tanto, la única diferencia entre tratamientos fue el nivel de EMAn utilizado. Cada uno de los 6 tratamientos se replicó 8 veces y la unidad experimental fue la jaula con 24 pollitas. De 1 a 120 d de edad, la ganancia de PV y el IC mejoraron a medida que aumentó la EMAn del pienso (P < 0,001). Las pollitas alimentadas con gránulo de 1 a 45 d de edad comieron mas y tuvieron una ganancia de peso superior (P < 0,001) que las alimentadas con harina. En el global de la prueba, la ganancia de PV fue mayor (P < 0,01) para las pollitas alimentadas con piensos en gránulo. A los 45 d de edad, el PR de todos los segmentos del TGI estudiados fue inferior para las pollitas alimentadas con piensos de alta energía que para las pollitas alimentadas con piensos de media o baja energía. A 120 d de edad, el PR de la molleja fue superior (P < 0,01) para las pollitas alimentadas con piensos de baja energía que con los otros piensos. Sin embargo, la LR del TGI no se vió afectada por el nivel de energía de los piensos. A los 45 d de edad, la alimentación con gránulo redujo el PR del proventrículo (P < 0,05), de la molleja (P < 0,001) y del TGI (P < 0.001), así como la LR del intestino delgado (P < 0,05) y de los ciegos (P < 0,001). A pesar de que las pollitas solo recibieron los piensos en gránulo durante los primeros 45 d de vida, la alimentación con gránulos redujo el PR de la molleja y del proventrículo a 120 d de edad. Se concluye que la alimentación con gránulos durante los primeros 45 d de vida mejora el consumo de pienso y el PV de las pollitas a 120 d de edad. Un aumento del nivel de energía de la dieta de 12,0 a 12,7 MJ/kg mejora los parámetros productivos de 1 a 120 d de edad pero reduce el tamaño del proventrículo y de la molleja. En base de estos resultados concluimos que maíz y trigo con enzimas pueden utilizarse indistintamente en piensos para pollitas de 1 a 120 d de edad con sólo una ligera disminución del PV final con trigo. La granulación y la reducción del tamaño de partícula del cereal del pienso de primera edad (1 a 45 d de vida) y el uso de piensos de alta densidad energética, mejoran los PV a 120 d de edad. Por lo tanto, es recomendable moler los cereales con cribas de no más de 8-mm de diámetro. También, la granulación del pienso y el uso de piensos de alta energía (pobres en fibra bruta) pueden reducir el desarrollo del TGI especialmente de la molleja, lo que puede perjudicar el consumo posterior de pienso durante el inicio del ciclo de puesta. ABSTRACT The general objective of this Thesis was to study the effect of different nutritional factors on productive performance and the development of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of commercial brown egg-laying pullets from 1 to 120 d of age. In this respect, the influence of type and particle size of the cereal, and feed form, and energy content of the die,t were studied in 3 experiments. In experiment 1, the influence of the main cereal and feed form of the diet on performance and GIT traits was studied in 576 brown-egg laying pullets from 1 to 120 d of age. From 1 to 45 d of age, 4 diets arranged factorially with 2 cereals (maize vs. wheat) and 2 feed forms (mash vs. pellets) were used. Each treatment was replicated 6 times (24 pullets per replicate). From 46 to 120 d of age, all diets were offered in mash form and therefore, the only difference among diets was the cereal used. Cumulatively, pullets fed the maize diets had higher body weight (BW) gain (P< 0.05) but similar feed conversion ratio (FCR) than pullets fed the wheat diets. From 1 to 45 d of age, pullets fed pellets consumed more feed (P < 0.001) and had higher BW gain (P < 0.001) than pullets fed mash. Most of the beneficial effects of pelleting on productive performance of the birds were still evident at 120 d of age. The pH of the gizzard contents at 120 d of age was not affected by the main cereal of the diet, but was lower in pullets fed mash from 1 to 45 d of age (P < 0.01) than in pullets fed pellets. We conclude that wheat supplemented with enzymes can be used in substitution of maize in pullet diets with only a slight reduction in BW gain at 120 d of age. Also, feeding pellets from 1 to 45 d of age increased BW gain and pH of the gizzard, and reduced the RW of the gizzard and the RL of the GIT at 120 d of age. In experiment 2, a total of 864 brown-egg laying pullets was used to study the effects of the main cereal of the diet (500 g maize or wheat/kg) and particle size of the cereal (hammer milled to pass through a 6, 8, and 10-mm screen) on growth performance and GIT traits from 1 to 120 d of age. Each of the 6 treatments was replicated 6 times (24 pullets per replicate). Type of cereal did not affect pullet performance at any age. From 1 to 45 d of age, BW gain was increased (P < 0.001) and FCR was improved (P < 0.05) as the particle size of the cereal was reduced, but no effects were observed after this age. At 45 d of age, pullets fed maize tended (P < 0.10) to have a heavier RW of the GIT and proventriculus and a higher relative length (RL, cm/kg BW) of the SI than pullets fed wheat. Also at this age, the RW of the GIT increased (P < 0.05) with increases in particle size of the cereal. At 120 d of age, dietary treatment did not affect the RW of any of the organs studied or gizzard pH, but the RL of the SI was higher (P < 0.05) for pullets fed wheat than for pullets fed maize. Also, the RL of the SI was reduced (P < 0.05) as the particle size of the cereal increased. We conclude that 500 g wheat/kg can be included in pullet feeds from 1 to 120 d of age, and that particle size of the cereal affects pullet performance during the first 45 d of life but not thereafter. Therefore, it is recommended to grind the cereal used in this period with a screen size of no more than 8-mm. In experiment 3, a total of 1,152 one-day-old Hy-Line Brown egg laying pullets were used to study the influence of the energy content of the diet and feed form on productive performance and on several GIT traits. From 1 to 45 d of age, there were 6 diets arranged factorially with 3 concentrations of AMEn (low: 11.66 MJ/kg, medium: 12.05 MJ/kg and high: 12.66 MJ/kg) of the diet and 2 feed forms (mash vs. pellets). From 45 to 120 d all diets were fed in mash form and therefore, the only difference among treatments in this period was the energy content of the diets. Each of the 6 treatments was replicated 8 times and the experimental unit was formed by 24 pullets. Cumulatively, BW gain and FCR improved as the AMEn of the diet increased (P < 0.001). Also, pullets fed pellets from 1 to 45 d of age had higher feed intake and BW gain (P < 0.001) in this period and higher cumulative BW gain (P < 0.01) than pullets fed mash. At 45 d of age, the RWof all the segments of the GIT was lower for pullets fed the high- than for pullets fed the medium- or low- energy diets. At 120 d of age, the RW of the gizzard was higher (P < 0.01) for pullets fed the low energy diets than for pullets fed the other diets. However, the RL of the GIT was not affected by the energy content of the diet. Feeding pellets reduced the RW of the proventriculus (P < 0.05), gizzard (P < 0.001), and GIT (P < 0.001), as well as the RL of the small intestine (P < 0.05) and the ceaca (P < 0.001) at 45 d of age. The effects of feeding pellets on RW of gizzard and proventriculus were still evident at 120 d of age. We concluded that feeding pellets from 1 to 45 d of age improved feed intake and BW of pullets at 120 d of age and that an increase in the energy content of the diet increased pullet performance at all ages but reduced the RW of the proventriculus and gizzard. We conclude that maize and wheat can be used indistinctly in diets for egg laying pullets from 1 to 120 d of age, with only a slight reduction in final BW when wheat is used. Also, particle size of the cereal affects pullet performance during the first 45 d of life but not thereafter. Pelleting of the feeds, and grinding the cereal with a screen size of no more than 8-mm from 1 to 45 d of age, and the use of high density energy diets are recommended in order to achieve adequate target BW at 120 d of age. However, pelleting of the feed, very fine grinding, and the use of high AMEn diets might hinder the development of the GIT, especially that of the gizzard, which might affect feed intake of laying hens especially at the beginning of the production cycle.

Este trabajo se ocupa de la construcción modular ligera de viviendas unifamiliares, más concretamente aborda el problema de la definición constructiva de las mismas, habida cuenta de lo poco conocido y publicado de este aspecto en particular. Dado que la construcción es fruto de la evolución, resulta de gran importancia el estudio de los antecedentes para comprender la situación actual, por ello para documentar como corresponde el estado de la técnica y de la investigación se estudiaron los antecedentes desde sus primeras manifestaciones a finales del siglo XIX hasta nuestros días. Contrariamente a las profecías de Le Corbusier y otros, la industrialización no ha llegado a la construcción ni en la forma ni en la medida que era de esperar a principios del siglo XX. Sin embargo y a pesar del relativo “fracaso” de la industrialización en convertirse en la forma mayoritaria de producir edificios, lo cierto es que algunos sistemas altamente industrializados, como lo es la construcción modular ligera, han logrado un lugar en el mercado, que en algunos países resulta cuanto menos significativo. Delimitar el estado de la técnica y la situación actual es crucial en este trabajo, toda vez que la construcción industrializada la realizan empresas, y situarse al margen de las mismas y de su producción, nos guste o no, resulta contrario al sentido común. De este modo se han identificado y documentado ejemplos como el de EE.UU. y Japón, entre otros, que resultan muy ilustrativos tanto desde la evolución como del estado actual. Del estado de la técnica y la investigación también resulta la escasez de publicación de detalles constructivos específicos de la construcción modular ligera. Es obvio que los fabricantes intentan blindarse mediante el secreto industrial, logrando que las soluciones constructivas más interesantes queden fuertemente protegidas dentro del conocimiento reservado de la empresa. De este modo un sistema que alcanza grados de prefabricación del 95%, tan atractivo e interesante para el arquitecto queda reservado al conocimiento de unos pocos dentro de las empresas. La búsqueda de mayor información sobre estos sistemas encuentra un filón indiscutible en los proyectos de las casas del concurso Solar Decathlon. En efecto, debido a las condiciones particulares de este concurso, las casas que compiten deben ser instaladas en un plazo corto, por lo que en su mayoría recurren al método de construcción modular ligera, para lograr correctamente este objetivo. Adicionalmente todos los planos de proyecto incluidos los de detalle, así como memorias de especificaciones técnicas, quedan colgadas en la Web, a libre disposición del público. De este modo se ha considerado interesante, conveniente y útil, aprovechar como fuente documental de este trabajo, aparte de lo obtenido en el estado de la técnica y la investigación, los proyectos de las casas de los concursos 2005 y 2007, que fueron las dos últimas ediciones celebradas cuando se inició esta tesis. De modo similar a esta carencia de detalles publicados se observa igualmente una falta de investigación y de metodologías adecuadas a la misma sobre soluciones y detalles constructivos propios de la construcción modular ligera. Por eso y ante la dificultad de manejar adecuadamente una información disponible pero farragosa, este trabajo ha dedicado una parte importante de su esfuerzo a la creación de una metodología adecuada a este tipo de situación. Hay que destacar que cada proyecto puede constar fácilmente de 60 a casi 200 planos, sin contar las memorias técnicas y otros documentos, tales como galerías de imágenes, etc. Por otra parte resulta útil establecer esta metodología, no solo para esta tesis, sino para futuros trabajos de investigación sobre el tema, toda vez que con posterioridad a 2007 se han celebrado nuevas ediciones del concurso con su correspondiente volumen de información disponible. La metodología del análisis de los proyectos se basa en el diseño y creación de siete fichas tipo que resumen los aspectos fundamentales del proyecto desde el punto de vista constructivo, permitiendo de este modo su rápida visualización y comprensión sin pretender exhaustividad, ya que en caso de querer profundizar en el detalle de la información siempre está el proyecto original para ello. Tras estudiar la información obtenida de los proyectos de las casas de concurso, se contrastan y discuten los resultados para obtener conocimientos de interés para el objetivo propuesto en la tesis. Se comparan los resultados procedentes del estado de la técnica y de la investigación y se obtienen las conclusiones correspondientes. De este modo ha sido posible identificar una serie de criterios técnicos de proyecto de viviendas unifamiliares realizadas mediante construcción modular ligera, que además se organizan en varios niveles, por lo que el resultado es un conjunto de criterios como germen de una futura guía o manual. Como conclusiones fundamentales de la tesis hay que destacar las metodológicas, que habilitan la extensión de este estudio a otros trabajos y la aportación original al conocimiento con la definición de una serie de criterios técnicos de proyecto de viviendas realizadas mediante construcción modular ligera, que además de mejorar esta parte del saber constructivo serán de gran ayuda a los arquitectos de cara a la reducción de errores, que a menudo derivan en mayores costes y plazos, cuando no directamente al abandono del sistema constructivo. El trabajo de la tesis se estructura en siete capítulos a saber: Capítulo 1: Introducción, donde se explica el tema de la tesis, el objetivo principal, las limitaciones y se aportan algunas definiciones. Capítulo 2: Estado de la técnica y la investigación, dentro del cual se presentan los antecedentes desde sus inicios pasando por la primera y segunda mitad del siglo XX y finalizando con el estado actual que recorre los sistemas de EE.UU, Japón, Europa, Escandinavia, centro Europa, Francia, España y algunos ejemplos de Latinoamérica. En el estado de la investigación se presentan las publicaciones tanto en revistas científicas indexadas en el JCR, como publicaciones no indexadas en las que se muestran artículos científicos, comunicaciones a congresos, documentación sobre el concurso Solar Decathlon, libros específicos y libros genéricos sobre construcción modular ligera, tesis doctorales tanto generales como específicas sobre el concurso Solar Decathlon, documentos de idoneidad técnica, páginas Web del concurso Solar Decathlon y finalmente páginas Web de empresas de construcción modular ligera y patentes. También se expresan las conclusiones parciales del capítulo así también como la justificación y los objetivos particulares. Capítulo 3: Metodología, se expone en primer lugar el planteamiento del problema, para luego desarrollar los métodos utilizados para el estudio y clasificación del transporte y de la organización modular, la relación entre la organización modular y distribución espacial, el diseño y contenido de las fichas resumen de los 38 proyectos presentados al SD2005 y SD2007, así también como la información consultada para su realización. Se explica asimismo como se realizaron las tablas comparativas partiendo de la información de las fichas. Finalmente se expresa la manera en que se trató el estudio particular de la junta entre módulos. Capítulo 4: Discusión de resultados, dónde en primer lugar se presenta la clasificación y las estrategias del transporte así también como una clasificación de la organización modular, en segundo lugar se estudian las relaciones que existen entre el sistema modular y la organización espacial. A partir de aquí se muestra el estudio de la estructura de todas las casas del SD2005 y SD2007, según el tipo y material de las zapatas, mostrando tanto tablas cuantitativas como tablas gráficas con fotos. De la misma manera se tratan los forjados, los pilares y las vigas y las cubiertas. Se estudia además el cerramiento opaco y acristalado, la cubierta y el forjado según las capas que lo componen. En el caso de las instalaciones se estudian las que son especiales, descartando las normales en este tipo de casas, como son los paneles fotovoltaicos, placas térmicas o tubos de vacío y los sistemas de almacenamiento de energía, como las baterías, presentando tablas numéricas y gráficas con fotos. El transporte se analiza según corresponda al traslado de la vivienda o al transporte de apoyo, según el tipo y la cantidad utilizado. Con respecto al montaje se diferencia en si se usó grúa o no, y en el caso de no utilizarse se muestran los métodos alternativos. Con respecto a la exploración de la organización modular se presentan la cantidad de módulos que utilizó cada casa, así como también la cuantificación de los sistemas híbridos como son elementos lineales 1D, paneles 2D. Por último se muestra el estudio detallado de la junta entre módulos 3D. Finalmente se realiza la propuesta de un conjunto de criterios técnicos de proyecto organizado en cuatro niveles: 1º nivel de criterios generales, 2º nivel sobre sistemas constructivos, 3º nivel de detalles constructivos y el 4º nivel llamado logística obras previas, transporte y montaje. Capítulo 5: Conclusiones y líneas futuras de investigación, se exponen las conclusiones generales, metodológicas, documentales y por último las de construcción modular. Finalmente se realiza una propuesta de líneas futuras de investigación. Capítulo 6: Bibliografía. Capítulo 7: Anexos, en el que se presentan todas las fichas resumen de las casas realizadas por el autor de esta tesis. Además se incluyen los casos concretos de Voisin en Francia y la TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) en EE.UU., así como referencias de manuales genéricos de construcción ligera, medidas de transporte en España e información sobre estadísticas de viviendas en la Unión Europea. ABSTRACT This paper deals with Light Modular Construction of houses, and specifically addresses the problem of the constructive definition of the same, given how little known and published this subject has been. Since building construction is the result of evolution, it is of great importance to study its background for understanding the current situation, therefore to document the state of the art and research, its history was studied from its origins dating to the end nineteenth century to our days. Contrary to the prophecies of Le Corbusier and others, industrialization has not reached the construction neither in the form nor to the extent that it was expected in the early twentieth century. However, despite the relative "failure" of industrialization to become the major form of production for buildings, the fact is that some highly industrialized systems, such as the so called Lightweight Modular Construction, have achieved a place in the market, which in some countries is at least significant. To outline the state of the art and the current situation is crucial in this work, since industrialized construction is carried out by companies, and to step away from them and their production, whether we like it or not, it is contrary to common sense. So that, several cases have been identified and documented, such as the US and Japan examples, among others, which are very illustrative both from evolution and the current status. The state of the art and research shows also a shortage of publication of specific construction details of light modular construction. Obviously, manufacturers try to shield themselves by trade secret, making the most interesting constructive solutions remain heavily protected within the reserved knowledge of the company, so a system that reaches levels of 95% prefabrication, so attractive and interesting for the architect It is reserved to the knowledge of a few people inside the companies. The search for more information on these systems finds an invaluable reef in the projects of the Solar Decathlon houses. Indeed, due to the particular conditions of this contest, houses competing must be installed in a short time, so mostly turn to modular construction methods for this purpose to achieve properly this goal. Additionally all levels of project, including detailed and technical specifications reports are published on the Web, freely available to the general public. Thus it was considered interesting, convenient and useful to take advantage as a documentary source of this work, apart from what it were obtained in the state of the art and research, the projects of the houses of the 2005 and 2007 contests, which were the last two editions already held before this thesis was started. Similar to this lack of published details it is also observed a lack of research and methodologies adapted to the solutions and construction details of lightweight modular construction. So that, and facing the difficulty of adequately manage the available but bulky information, this work has devoted a significant part of its effort to create an appropriate methodology for this type of situation. It is noteworthy that each project can easily consist of 60 to almost 200 blueprints, not including technical reports and other documents, such as photo galleries, etc. The methodology of the analysis of the projects is based on the design and creation of seven record sheets that summarize key aspects of the project from a construction point of view, thus allowing quick watching and understanding of the project, without claiming completeness, always keeping for further information the blueprints themselves. After studying the information obtained from the projects of the competition houses, the results are compared and discussed to obtain relevant knowledge according to the objective proposed in the thesis. The results from the state of the art and research are also compared and the conclusions so obtained make possible to identify a number of technical design criteria for single family homes made using lightweight modular construction, which also have been organized at various levels, so the result is a set of criteria as a seed for a future guide or manual. Among the main conclusions of the thesis must be noted the methodological ones, that enable the extension of this study to other works and are an original contribution to knowledge with the definition of a number of technical criteria for housing projects made by light modular construction, what in addition to improving this part of the constructive knowledge will be of great help for the architects to reduce errors that often result in higher costs and delays, if not in abandonment of the construction system itself. The work of the thesis is divided into seven chapters as follows: Chapter 1: Introduction, where the topic of the thesis, the main objective, limitations and the provided definitions is explained. Chapter 2: State of the art and research, within which history is presented from the beginning through the first and second half of the twentieth century and ending with the current systems, that spans from the USA to Japan, Europe, Scandinavia, Central Europe, France, Spain and some Latin American examples. In the state of research publications are presented both on scientific journals indexed in the JCR, and non-indexed publications in which scientific articles, conference papers, information about the Solar Decathlon competition, generic and specific books on light modular construction, articles both general and specific on the Solar Decathlon competition, technical approval documents, dissertations, the Solar Decathlon Web pages and finally lightweight modular construction companies Web pages and patents. The partial conclusions of the chapter as well as the rationale and specific objectives are also expressed. Chapter 3: Methodology first of all exposes the problem statement and then develops the methods used for the study and classification of transportation and modular organization, the relationship between the modular organization and spatial distribution, design and content summary records of the 38 projects submitted to the SD2005 and SD2007, as well as information consulted for its realization. It explains equally how the comparative tables based on information from the chips were made. Finally, the way the particular study of the joint between modules is carried out is also treated. Chapter 4: Discussion, first sorting a classification of transport strategies as well as of modular organization, secondly the relationship between the modular system and the spatial organization studied is presented. In the case of facilities there have been only addressed that which are of a special type, discarding that considered usual in this type of houses such as photovoltaic panels, thermal panels or vacuum tubes and energy storage systems such as batteries, presenting numerical and graphical tables with photos .The transportation is analyzed depending on it is used to move the house or for additional support, depending on the type and quantity of items used. Regarding assembly it has been made a difference if crane is or not used and if not, what the alternative methods are. With respect to the exploration of the modular organization, the amount of modules used in each house is presented, as well as the quantification of hybrid systems such as linear members as well as 1D, 2D panels. Finally, it has been carried out the detailed study of the joint between 3D modules. Finally it is proposed a set of technical criteria organized into four levels, 1st level of general criteria, 2nd level on building systems, 3rd level construction details and 4th level called previous works and logistics, transportation and assembly. Chapter 5: Conclusions and future research, where general, methodological, documentary and finally modular construction findings are presented. A proposal for further research is done. Chapter 6: Bibliography. Chapter 7: Annexes, in which all the record sheets of houses made by the author of this thesis are presented. Besides the specific cases of Voisin in France and TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) in the USA, as well as general reference manuals on lightweight construction, transportation dimensions in Spain, and information on housing statistics in the European Union are included.
