Resumo:
Project planning and architectural management of a port area should include many variables, it must be in harmony with its environment and its historical development as the key to successful integration. This article explains the elements which should be taken into account when doing such planning by describing the proposal presented on the ?Concurso public internacional de ideas para proyectar la ordenación urbanística y arquitectónica del área central del puerto de Vigo?, with the aim of sharing comprehensive applied design philosofy, it will inspire and help future designers. Creative imagination is great added value to engineering creations, but should not overwhelm functionality and sustainability, but to be in harmony with them. The maximum aesthetic expression in engineering is achieved as the product of the conceptual elegance of the functionality of the structures.

This paper shows the Gini Coefficient, the dissimilarity Index and the Lorenz Curve for the Spanish Port System by type of goods from 1960 to the year 2010 for business units: Total traffic, Liquid bulk cargo, Solid bulk cargo, General Merchandise and Container (TEUs) with the aim of carcaterizar the Spanish port systems in these periods and propose future strategies.

The proximity between Europe and Africa and the fact that the Strait of Gibraltar has historically acted as a link between races, cultures and religions have made absolutely necessary to establish a relationship between the Northern African coast and the Southern European equivalent. From the Nineteenth Century the possibility of building a permanent link between both continents through the Strait of Gibraltar has been taken into account. In order to establish that relationship it is necessary to have coastal zones completely geo-referenced, under the same geodetic system and with a unique projection system. The paper describes the work carried out in the Strait of Gibraltar for this purpose.

On December 17 came into force on community standard marine fuels. Bunker prices are expected to increase, recent statistics support this argument and the difference between the high sulphur (HS) and the low sulphur (LS) marine bunkers will be sustained. Considering also the price difference between the basis-market of Rotterdam with the rest European ports, the expected bunker prices will be higher in the Mediterranean. This paper begins with a review of the current situation in ECAS areas, highlighting the rules to be implemented shortly. The aim of the paper is known the current situation bunkering determine the estimated short term in Spain from world fleet.

On December 17 came into force on community standard marine fuels.The SOx emissions will be increased in the main shipping routes at a rate of 3 to 4% annually. Most of the sulphur burden will be attributed to shipping activity. Therefore the extension of SECAs could be beneficial towards the improvement of air quality. This paper begins with a review of the current situation SECAS and ECAS areas, highlighting the rules to be implemented shortly. This paper shows the Gini Coefficient of the Spanish bunkering, for the Spanish Port System 1960 to the year 2010 with the aim to describe the Spanish bunkering in these periods and propose future strategies. The stage of bunkering must change due to new regulations of marine fuels but to predict the future you must know the past On December 17 came into force on community standard marine fuels. After a complicated negotiation with the industry moves forward a project that is fully compliant with the guidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and limiting the sulphur and particulate matter of marine fuels used by ships calling or transit through maritime space of the European Union. The impact of a possible extension at European level of the Sulphur Emission Control Areas (SECA) as they are introduced in the Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution From Ships, 1973 as modified by the Protocol of 1978 (MARPOL) adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Laser shock processing (LSP) is increasingly applied as an effective technology for the improvement of metallic materials mechanical properties in different types of components as a means of enhancement of their fatigue life behavior. As reported in previous contributions by the authors, a main effect resulting from the application of the LSP technique consists on the generation of relatively deep compression residual stresses fields into metallic components allowing an improved mechanical behaviour, explicitly the life improvement of the treated specimens against wear, crack growth and stress corrosion cracking. Additional results accomplished by the authors in the line of practical development of the LSP technique at an experimental level (aiming its integral assessment from an interrelated theoretical and experimental point of view) are presented in this paper. Concretely, experimental results on the residual stress profiles and associated mechanical properties modification successfully reached in typical materials under different LSP irradiation conditions are presented. In this case, the specific behavior of a widely used material in high reliability components (especially in nuclear and biomedical applications) as AISI 316L is analyzed, the effect of possible “in-service” thermal conditions on the relaxation of the LSP effects being specifically characterized. Continuous and long-pulse lasers have been extensively used for the forming of metal sheets for macroscopic mechanical applications. However, for the manufacturing of Micro-Mechanical Systems (MMS), the applicability of such type of lasers is limited by the long relaxation time of the thermal fields responsible for the forming phenomena. As a consequence, the final sheet deformation state is attained only after a certain time, what makes the generated internal residual stress fields more dependent on ambient conditions and might difficult the subsequent assembly process. The use of short pulse (ns) lasers provides a suitable parameter matching for the laser forming of an important range of sheet components used in MEMS. The short interaction time scale required for the predominantly mechanic (shock) induction of deformation residual stresses allows the successful processing of components in a medium range of miniaturization (particularly important according to its frequent use in such systems). In the present paper, Laser Shock Micro-Forming (LSμF) is presented as an emerging technique for Microsystems parts shaping and adjustment along with a discussion on its physical foundations and practical implementation possibilities developed by the authors.

Concretely, follow-on experimental results on the residual stress profiles and associated surface properties modification successfully reached in typical materials (especially Al and Ti alloys characteristic of high reliability components in the aerospace, nuclear and biomedical sectors) under different LSP irradiation conditions are presented along with a practical correlated analysis on the protective character of the residual stress profiles obtained under different irradiation strategies. Additional remarks on the improved character of the LSP technique over the traditional “shot peening” technique in what concerns depth of induced compressive residual stresses fields are also made through the paper

This paper describes the new anechoic chamber available at The University of Kent, UK. This facility includes a spherical near/far field, planar near field, cylindrical near field and a compact range. The facility allows measurement from 600 MHz up to 110 MHz. The spherical, planar and cylindrical ranges covers up to 40 GHz and the compact range is available from 50 GHz up to 110 MHz. Immediate plans are to use the new facility to measure body-centric antennas and sensing nodes together with near field sampling of finite sized Frequency Selective Surfaces.

This paper presents ASYTRAIN, a new tool to teach and learn antennas, based on the use of a modular building kit and a low cost portable antenna measurement system that lets the students design and build different types of antennas and observe their characteristics while learning the insights of the subjects. This tool has a methodology guide for try-and-test project development and, makes the students be active antenna engineers instead of passive learners. This experimental learning method arises their motivation during the antenna courses.

La figura de José Luis Fernández del Amo es importante porque unido a su obra arquitectónica, va indisolublemente asociada su labor como impulsor de la renovación y difusión de las artes plásticas. Su legado es este compromiso con el arte y la arquitectura propios de la época en la que se vive, y que ambos sirvan a la sociedad. Se analizan dos de sus obras, la intervención en uno de los patios de la Biblioteca Nacional para albergar la Sala de Exposiciones del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, y la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Luz, en Madrid.

The dimensionality effect is avoided by the use of sufficient statistics in event probability estimators realised by importance sampling. If the system function is not a sufficient statistic, an approach is proposed to reduce the dimensionality effect in the estimators. Simulation results of false-alarm probability estimations, applied to radar detection, confirm a clear concordance with the theoretical results
