We discuss three geometric constructions and their relations, namely the offset, the conchoid and the pedal construction. The offset surface F d of a given surface F is the set of points at fixed normal distance d of F. The conchoid surface G d of a given surface G is obtained by increasing the radius function by d with respect to a given reference point O. There is a nice relation between offsets and conchoids: The pedal surfaces of a family of offset surfaces are a family of conchoid surfaces. Since this relation is birational, a family of rational offset surfaces corresponds to a family of rational conchoid surfaces and vice versa. We present theoretical principles of this mapping and apply it to ruled surfaces and quadrics. Since these surfaces have rational offsets and conchoids, their pedal and inverse pedal surfaces are new classes of rational conchoid surfaces and rational offset surfaces.

Within the European funded project SOPHIA, a Round Robin measurement on CPV module has been initiated. Seven different test laboratories located in Europe between 48°N and 37°N perform measurements of four SOITEC CPV modules. The modules are electrically characterized with different measurement equipment under various climatic conditions. One pyrheliometer and one spectral sensor based on component cells are shipped together with the modules. This ensures that the irradiance and spectrum, two factors with high impact on CPV module performance, are measured with the identical equipment at each site. The round robin activity is performed in closeco-operation with the IEC TC82 WG7 power rating team in order to support the work on the CPV module power rating draft standard 62670-3. The resultingrated module power outputs at CSOC (Concentrator Standard Operating Conditions) are compared amongst the power rating methods and amongst the test labs. In this manner, a deviation in rated power output between different test labs and power rating methods is determined.

ABSTRACT. This work aims the subjective assessment of the differentiation between auralization signals with impulse responses simulated and impulse responses measured at different rooms. To this end, we have developed a software tool that generates the corresponding auralizations, provides a user interface to perform a subjective listening test and stores the results of the test. In this project we present the results of a listening test performed for 58 listeners, using different test signals from the impulse responses measured and simulated in six rooms with different acoustic characteristics.

The virtual acoustic reality techniques are powerful tools for the recovery of acoustical heritage of historic buildings. Through the acoustic modeling and auralization techniques it´s possible to reconstruct the sound of disappeared buildings or the ones with significant modifications over the years, knowing the original geometry and the acoustic characteristics of their surfaces. This paper shows the results of a research project whose goal is the virtual recovery of the sound of the Hispanic Rite, the rite celebrated by Christians of the Iberian Peninsula before the imposition of the Roman Rite in the mid-eleventh century. For this purpose, acoustic models of a series of Pre-Romanesque churches were made. These acoustic models represent the churches in their original state, following the reconstruction hypothesis proposed by leading researchers in medieval liturgical archeology. Multichannel anechoic recordings of several pieces of the music of the Hispanic Rite have been carried out using a spherical array composed of 31 microphones. Finally, static and dynamic auralizations have been developed, involving the different liturgical configurations which were usual in this rite.

In this paper the use of the NDF is proposed as a general method suitable for analysing any oscillator topology. The most important advantage of this method is that it provides an unique procedure to analyse any oscillator. It also makes possible the phase noise optimization in the linear design phase for any oscillator. An additional advantage of this method is that it does not require any proviso verification as all classic methods need. The use of the NDF method is illustrated with the design of two examples. These two oscillators are manufactured and the simulation results are compared with the measurements showing good agreement. These results confirm the excellent possibilities of the proposed method for low noise oscillators design.

Current fusion devices consist of multiple diagnostics and hundreds or even thousands of signals. This situation forces on multiple occasions to use distributed data acquisition systems as the best approach. In this type of distributed systems, one of the most important issues is the synchronization between signals, so that it is possible to have a temporal correlation as accurate as possible between the acquired samples of all channels. In last decades, many fusion devices use different types of video cameras to provide inside views of the vessel during operations and to monitor plasma behavior. The synchronization between each video frame and the rest of the different signals acquired from any other diagnostics is essential in order to know correctly the plasma evolution, since it is possible to analyze jointly all the information having accurate knowledge of their temporal correlation. The developed system described in this paper allows timestamping image frames in a real-time acquisition and processing system using 1588 clock distribution. The system has been implemented using FPGA based devices together with a 1588 synchronized timing card (see Fig.1). The solution is based on a previous system [1] that allows image acquisition and real-time image processing based on PXIe technology. This architecture is fully compatible with the ITER Fast Controllers [2] and offers integration with EPICS to control and monitor the entire system. However, this set-up is not able to timestamp the frames acquired since the frame grabber module does not present any type of timing input (IRIG-B, GPS, PTP). To solve this lack, an IEEE1588 PXI timing device its used to provide an accurate way to synchronize distributed data acquisition systems using the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) IEEE 1588 2008 standard. This local timing device can be connected to a master clock device for global synchronization. The timing device has a buffer timestamp for each PXI trigger line and requires tha- a software application assigns each frame the corresponding timestamp. The previous action is critical and cannot be achieved if the frame rate is high. To solve this problem, it has been designed a solution that distributes the clock from the IEEE 1588 timing card to all FlexRIO devices [3]. This solution uses two PXI trigger lines that provide the capacity to assign timestamps to every frame acquired and register events by hardware in a deterministic way. The system provides a solution for timestamping frames to synchronize them with the rest of the different signals.

The fixed point implementation of IIR digital filters usually leads to the appearance of zero-input limit cycles, which degrade the performance of the system. In this paper, we develop an efficient Monte Carlo algorithm to detect and characterize limit cycles in fixed-point IIR digital filters. The proposed approach considers filters formulated in the state space and is valid for any fixed point representation and quantization function. Numerical simulations on several high-order filters, where an exhaustive search is unfeasible, show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Adaptive Rejection Metropolis Sampling (ARMS) is a wellknown MCMC scheme for generating samples from onedimensional target distributions. ARMS is widely used within Gibbs sampling, where automatic and fast samplers are often needed to draw from univariate full-conditional densities. In this work, we propose an alternative adaptive algorithm (IA2RMS) that overcomes the main drawback of ARMS (an uncomplete adaptation of the proposal in some cases), speeding up the convergence of the chain to the target. Numerical results show that IA2RMS outperforms the standard ARMS, providing a correlation among samples close to zero.

Monte Carlo (MC) methods are widely used in signal processing, machine learning and communications for statistical inference and stochastic optimization. A well-known class of MC methods is composed of importance sampling and its adaptive extensions (e.g., population Monte Carlo). In this work, we introduce an adaptive importance sampler using a population of proposal densities. The novel algorithm provides a global estimation of the variables of interest iteratively, using all the samples generated. The cloud of proposals is adapted by learning from a subset of previously generated samples, in such a way that local features of the target density can be better taken into account compared to single global adaptation procedures. Numerical results show the advantages of the proposed sampling scheme in terms of mean absolute error and robustness to initialization.

Monte Carlo (MC) methods are widely used in signal processing, machine learning and stochastic optimization. A well-known class of MC methods are Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms. In this work, we introduce a novel parallel interacting MCMC scheme, where the parallel chains share information using another MCMC technique working on the entire population of current states. These parallel ?vertical? chains are led by random-walk proposals, whereas the ?horizontal? MCMC uses a independent proposal, which can be easily adapted by making use of all the generated samples. Numerical results show the advantages of the proposed sampling scheme in terms of mean absolute error, as well as robustness w.r.t. to initial values and parameter choice.

In this paper, a new method is presented to ensure automatic synchronization of intracardiac ECG data, yielding a three-stage algorithm. We first compute a robust estimate of the derivative of the data to remove low-frequency perturbations. Then we provide a grouped-sparse representation of the data, by means of the Group LASSO, to ensure that all the electrical spikes are simultaneously detected. Finally, a post-processing step, based on a variance analysis, is performed to discard false alarms. Preliminary results on real data for sinus rhythm and atrial fibrillation show the potential of this approach.

This approach aims at aligning, unifying and expanding the set of sentiment lexicons which are available on the web in order to increase their robustness of coverage. A sentiment lexicon is a critical and essential resource for tagging subjective corpora on the web or elsewhere. In many situations, the multilingual property of the sentiment lexicon is important because the writer is using two languages alternately in the same text, message or post. Our USL approach computes the unified strength of polarity of each lexical entry based on the Pearson correlation coefficient which measures how correlated lexical entries are with a value between 1 and -1, where 1 indicates that the lexical entries are perfectly correlated, 0 indicates no correlation, and -1 means they are perfectly inversely correlated and the UnifiedMetrics procedure for CPU and GPU, respectively.

This paper is framed within the problem of analyzing the rationality of the components of two classical geometric constructions, namely the offset and the conchoid to an algebraic plane curve and, in the affirmative case, the actual computation of parametrizations. We recall some of the basic definitions and main properties on offsets (see [13]), and conchoids (see [15]) as well as the algorithms for parametrizing their rational components (see [1] and [16], respectively). Moreover, we implement the basic ideas creating two packages in the computer algebra system Maple to analyze the rationality of conchoids and offset curves, as well as the corresponding help pages. In addition, we present a brief atlas where the offset and conchoids of several algebraic plane curves are obtained, their rationality analyzed, and parametrizations are provided using the created packages.

This paper describes a framework for annotation on travel blogs based on subjectivity (FATS). The framework has the capability to auto-annotate -sentence by sentence- sections from blogs (posts) about travelling in the Spanish language. FATS is used in this experiment to annotate com- ponents from travel blogs in order to create a corpus of 300 annotated posts. Each subjective element in a sentence is annotated as positive or negative as appropriate. Currently correct annotations add up to about 95 per cent in our subset of the travel domain. By means of an iterative process of annotation we can create a subjectively annotated domain specific corpus.
