Esta exposición pretende ser una introducción al estudio de un amplio, complejo y dinámico conjunto de nociones, técnicas y prácticas sociales, que gira en torno a la blogosfera, “un vigoroso subespacio de comunicación en Internet”, tal como lo denomina Sáez Vacas en esta misma revista. El objetivo no es tanto ser exhaustivo en el tratamiento, como dar a conocer al lector los distintos conceptos y fenómenos involucrados en la génesis de este peculiar universo, cuyo origen podemos situar en un metafórico Blog Bang. Hablaremos de los blogs (weblogs o bitácoras), su origen, caracterización, clasificación y cuantificación, de la tecnología que los rodea y de conceptos relacionados, tales como los wikis, el socialware, la blogocultura y la web semántica. This essay is designed as an introduction to the study of a broad, complex and dynamic set of notions, techniques and social practices revolving around the blogosphere –“an intense communication subspace on the Internet”, as defined by Saéz Vacas in this magazine. The aim of this article is not to exhaustively cover the topic, but rather, to introduce the reader to the different concepts and phenomena involved in the genesis of this peculiar universe, whose origin lies in the metaphoric Blog Bang. We will touch on blogs (weblogs and bitcores), their origin, nature, classification and quantification, the technology that surrounds them, and other related concepts like wikis, socialware, blogculture and web semantics.

We present in a tutorial fashion CiaoPP, the preprocessor of the Ciao multi-paradigm programming system, which implements a novel program development framework which uses abstract interpretation as a fundamental tool. The framework uses modular, incremental abstract interpretation to obtain information about the program. This information is used to validate programs, to detect bugs with respect to partial specifications written using assertions (in the program itself and/or in system libraries), to generate and simplify run-time tests, and to perform high-level program transformations such as multiple abstract specialization, parallelization, and resource usage control, all in a provably correct way. In the case of validation and debugging, the assertions can refer to a variety of program points such as procedure entry, procedure exit, points within procedures, or global computations. The system can reason with much richer information than, for example, traditional types. This includes data structure shape (including pointer sharing), bounds on data structure sizes, and other operational variable instantiation properties, as well as procedure-level properties such as determinacy, termination, non-failure, and bounds on resource consumption (time or space cost).

Mesh adaptation based on error estimation has become a key technique to improve th eaccuracy o fcomputational-fluid-dynamics computations. The adjoint-based approach for error estimation is one of the most promising techniques for computational-fluid-dynamics applications. Nevertheless, the level of implementation of this technique in the aeronautical industrial environment is still low because it is a computationally expensive method. In the present investigation, a new mesh refinement method based on estimation of truncation error is presented in the context of finite-volume discretization. The estimation method uses auxiliary coarser meshes to estimate the local truncation error, which can be used for driving an adaptation algorithm. The method is demonstrated in the context of two-dimensional NACA0012 and three-dimensional ONERA M6 wing inviscid flows, and the results are compared against the adjoint-based approach and physical sensors based on features of the flow field.

An automatic Mesh Generation Preprocessor for BE Programs with a considerable of capabilities has been developed. This program allows almost any kind of geometry and tipology to be defined with a small amount of external data, and with an important approximation of the boundary geometry. Also the error checking possibility is very important for a fast comprobation of the results.

Finite element hp-adaptivity is a technology that allows for very accurate numerical solutions. When applied to open region problems such as radar cross section prediction or antenna analysis, a mesh truncation method needs to be used. This paper compares the following mesh truncation methods in the context of hp-adaptive methods: Infinite Elements, Perfectly Matched Layers and an iterative boundary element based methodology. These methods have been selected because they are exact at the continuous level (a desirable feature required by the extreme accuracy delivered by the hp-adaptive strategy) and they are easy to integrate with the logic of hp-adaptivity. The comparison is mainly based on the number of degrees of freedom needed for each method to achieve a given level of accuracy. Computational times are also included. Two-dimensional examples are used, but the conclusions directly extrapolated to the three dimensional case.

La puesta en marcha de las titulaciones adaptadas al RD 1393/2007 constituía la oportunidad largamente esperada de implementar una serie de proyectos ilusionantes asociados a la Declaración de Bolonia y a su “nebulosa”. Entre ellos, la mejora del rendimiento en la Acción Tutorial constituye, para la UPM, uno de los aspectos prioritarios. En ese ámbito, la E.U. de Ingeniería Técnica Industrial ha desarrollado, desde el curso 2010/2011, un proyecto denominado “La Hora TutHora”, cuyo objetivo consiste en actuar desde Ordenación Académica para favorecer la mencionada Acción Tutorial. Este artículo expone los resultados que han podido medirse tras dos años de vida del proyecto, las conclusiones que pueden obtenerse y el planteamiento de propuestas de mejora.

A simplified CFD wake model based on the actuator disk concept is used to simulate the wind turbine, represented by a disk upon which a distribution of forces, defined as axial momentum sources, are applied on the incoming non-uniform flow. The rotor is supposed to be uniformly loaded, with the exerted forces function of the incident wind speed, the thrust coefficient and the rotor diameter. The model is tested under different parameterizations of turbulence models and validated through experimental measurements downwind of a wind turbine in terms of wind speed deficit and turbulence intensity.

Provenance is key for describing the evolution of a resource, the entity responsible for its changes and how these changes affect its final state. A proper description of the provenance of a resource shows who has its attribution and can help resolving whether it can be trusted or not. This tutorial will provide an overview of the W3C PROV data model and its serialization as an OWL ontology. The tutorial will incrementally explain the features of the PROV data model, from the core starting terms to the most complex concepts. Finally, the tutorial will show the relation between PROV-O and the Dublin Core Metadata terms.

Applications that operate on meshes are very popular in High Performance Computing (HPC) environments. In the past, many techniques have been developed in order to optimize the memory accesses for these datasets. Different loop transformations and domain decompositions are com- monly used for structured meshes. However, unstructured grids are more challenging. The memory accesses, based on the mesh connectivity, do not map well to the usual lin- ear memory model. This work presents a method to improve the memory performance which is suitable for HPC codes that operate on meshes. We develop a method to adjust the sequence in which the data are used inside the algorithm, by means of traversing and sorting the mesh. This sorted mesh can be transferred sequentially to the lower memory levels and allows for minimum data transfer requirements. The method also reduces the lower memory requirements dra- matically: up to 63% of the L1 cache misses are removed in a traditional cache system. We have obtained speedups of up to 2.58 on memory operations as measured in a general- purpose CPU. An improvement is also observed with se- quential access memories, where we have observed reduc- tions of up to 99% in the required low-level memory size.

El presente proyecto propone la creación de un procedimiento y metodología para el diseño de salas y sistemas electroacústicos basados en el software EASE. La sala tipo elegida para el diseño será una sala de cine bajo las premisas de DOLBY Digital. Los sistemas electroacústicos modelo serán: • Sistema distribuido tanto en malla cuadrada como hexagonal • Sistemas centralizados basados en agrupaciones, tanto lineales como circulares. Se establecerán los pasos básicos imprescindibles para el diseño de los sistemas descritos de forma que, con la ayuda de este tutorial y los medios didácticos adjuntos al mismo, se puedan acometer paso a paso las distintas fases de diseño, cálculo y análisis de los mismos. Como metodología de trabajo se acometerá el proceso de diseño de un ejemplo de cada tipo sobre el que se describirán todos los pasos, posibilidades de diseño y cálculo de los mismos. ABSTRACT This project proposes the creation of a procedure and methodology for the design of rooms and electroacoustic systems based on EASE software. The room chosen as example design is a cinema under DOLBY Digital premises. Electroacoustic systems chosen as example are: • Distributed both square and hexagonal mesh • Centralized systems based on clusters, both linear and circular. It will be established the basic essential steps for the design of the systems described so, with this tutorial and attached teaching aids, could be undertaken the various stages of design, calculation and analysis. As a working methodology, the process design of an example will be described of each system on which all the steps described, design possibilities and calculation will be shown. The main points are: • Design of a cinema • Importing Autocad Files in EASE • Drawing with EASE • Materials insertion • Reverberation time based on the room volume • Adjusting reverberation time • Choosing speakers • Checking sound field uniformity in all channels • Checking peak levels and total level per each channel • Room equalization using X curve (ISO-2969) • Adding screen in the EQ • Psychoacoustic. Este artículo presenta un modelo de acción tutorial desarrollado sobre estrategias de acompañamiento al estudiante basadas en “coaching” e inteligencia emocional, y un modelo experimental de tutorías por pares de tutores en los que se celebran sesiones conjuntas para tratar problemas comunes y compartir experiencias de los tutelados. Los resultados obtenidos de integración y eficiencia en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje de los tutelados en este modelo invitan a extender la experiencia a un grupo de tutores mayor para después generalizarlo.

In recent years, the continuous incorporation of new technologies in the learning process has been an important factor in the educational process [1]. The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) promotes educational innovation processes and develops projects related to the improvement of the education quality. The experience that we present fits into the Educational Innovation Project (EIP) of the E.U. of Agricultural Engineering of Madrid. One of the main objectives of the EIP is to "Take advantage of the new opportunities offered by the Learning and Knowledge Technologies in order to enrich the educational processes and teaching management" [2].
