Energy conservation technical assistance update.

The Energy Conservation Act (20 ILCS 1115) was signed into law in September 1979. The law requires that the Department provide technical assistance in the development of thermal efficiency standards and lighting efficiency standards to units of local government, upon request by such unit. The law also states that the Department shall provide technical assistance in the development of a program for energy efficiency in procurement to units of local government, upon request by such unit. The Technical Assistance Programs provided under the law are supported by funds provided to the State pursuant to federal acts that provide funds for energy conservation efforts through the use of building codes.

I-355 extension update.

Includes an annoucement that the Illinois Dept. of Transportation, in cooperation with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, will be performing additional studies in support of the extension of I-355 through Will County, Illinois.

Update : New Jersey Zinc/Mobil Chemical Superfund Site, DePue, Illinois = U ltimos acontecimientos : Sitio Superfund New Jersey Zinc/Mobil Chemical, Depue, Illinois.

The potentially responsible parties (PRPs) have removed the beaver dams and have collected the sediment samples they need for treatability studies. The treatability studies will establish the correct silt fence to minimize releases of sediment during the actual dredging to occur this fall. The studies will also determine the types and amounts of materials (lime, kiln dust, fly ash, etc.) required to stabilize the sediment, chemically tie up the metals and insure the sediment mixture will bear the weight of the cap on the Interim Storage Cell where the sediment will be placed. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) anticipates work to be completed by late fall or early winter 2004, if lake and river levels that affect the South Ditch are at their normal seasonal levels.
