Full page engravings after S. Le Clerc, of the fountains in the Labyrinth (which represented Aesop's fables) with prose epitomes of the fables and descriptive text by Ch. Perrault, and metrical versions of the fables by I. de Benserade. On plate 12 the attribution "L. Scherm fe." can be discerned. Imprint from engraved allegorical frontispiece: Labyrinte de Versailles. A Amsterdam. Chez Pierre Mortier. Avec privilege. Title page replicates that of the French ed. of 1693, including engraved vignette of the royal arms. Mode of access: Internet. Library's copy has had plate 35, p. [71]-72, cut out and an immature hand with a pencil has scrawled on some pages. |
