Constituintes de Sorocea bomplandii Baillon

The chemical investigation of the leaves of Sorocea bomplandii Baillon (Moraceae) led to the identification of pentacyclic triterpenes, fatty acid ester and isoprenoids. Chromatographyc comparison between the infusion S. bomplandii with that of Maytenus aquifolium - a Celastraceae with proved antiulcer activity - has shown that they have different compositions: the first one is based on sugars and the last one is based on flavonoid glycosides.

Flavonoids from Chiococca braquiata (Rubiaceae)

A new flavonol 4′-methoxykaempferol-7-(acetyloxy)-3,5-O-α-L- rhamnoside (1), was isolated from the leaves of Chiococca braquiata, along with three known flavonoids apigenin, 7-O-methoxyquercetrin and quercetrin and four triterpenes α-amirin, β-amirin, ursolic and oleanolic acids . Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods.

In vitro propagation of Maytenus ilicifolia (Celastraceae) as potential source for antitumoral and antioxidant quinomethide triterpenes production. A rapid quantitative method for their analysis by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography

Cell culture of Maytenus ilicifolia were established in order to produce and to quantify the antitumoral and antioxidant quinonemethide triterpenes. In vitro calli were induced from leaf explants of native plants and cultured in semi-solid medium under controlled conditions of humidity, temperature and photoperiod. The quinonemethide triterpenes showed maximum accumulation in the logarithmic phase growth of the cell culture. A rapid, sensitive and reliable reverse-phase HPLC method was used for quantitative determination of the antitumoral and antioxidant quinonemethide triterpenes, 22β-hydroxymaytenin and maytenin in callus of Maytenus ilicifolia. Well resolved peaks with good detection response and linearity in the range 1.0 - 100 μg/mL were obtained. This quantitative work was performed by an external standard method.

A new ent-kaurane diterpene from stems of Alibertia macrophylla K. Schum. (Rubiaceae)

Phytochemical investigations of the stems of a specimen of Alibertia macrophylla led to the isolation and characterization of the new diterpene ent-kaurane-2β,3α,16α-triol (1), along with triterpenes 2-8, iridoids 9-12, and phenolic acids 13-15. The structure of 1 was established based on spectroscopic studies (1H- and 13C-NMR, IR, and HR-ESI-MS). This is the first report of the isolation of a diterpene from the Alibertia genus in Rubiaceae. © 2007 Verlag Helvetica Chimica Acta AG.

Atividade anti-micobacteriana de extratos de folhas de Byrsonima crassa Nied

In this study, the antimycobacterial activity of chloroformic and methanolic extracts obtained from Byrsonima crassa leaves was evaluated. Antimycobacterial activity was assessed through the microtechnique named Microplate Alamar Blue Assay (MABA) and the promising active principles were identified by spectrophotometric analysis. The chloroformic extract presenting 62.5 μg mL-1 minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) showed to be active against tuberculosis bacillus. The MIC value of the methanolic extract was 1000 μg mL-1. For the chloroformic one , phytochemical analysis indicated that antimycobacterial activity might be related to the presence of triterpenes.

Pharmacognostical evaluation of fruits of Solanum lycocarpum A. St.-Hill. (Solanaceae)

This study describes the chemical and physical-chemical profile of plant drug and ethanolic extract obtained from fruits of Solanum lycocarpum A. St.-Hill. (Solanaceae). The physical and chemical analysis involved the granulometry determination, non-compacted apparent density, loss on drying in oven and in infrared scale, pH, ash values and extractive values. The results determined the physical-chemical characteristics of the drug plant. It was also carried out the microbiological control of the plant drug. The preliminary phytochemical screening featured the presence of tannins, flavonoids and saponins in the plant drug and alkaloids and steroids in the ethanolic exctract. The solamargine and solasonine glycoalkaloids were identified through TLC and GC/ MS. The levels of total phenols and tannins were quantified in the extract (8.90% and 6,85% respectively). Such studies contribute to the chemical identification and quality control of S. lycocarpum fruits. © 2010 Phcog.net.

Osteryoung square wave voltammetric determination of lactose in food samples by a derivative procedure

A method for determination of lactose in food samples by Osteryoung square wave voltammetry (OSWV) was developed. It was based on the nucleophilic addition reaction between lactose and aqua ammonia. The carbonyl group of lactose can be changed into imido group, and this increases the electrochemical activity in reduction and the sensitivity. The optimal condition for the nucleophilic addition reaction was investigated and it was found that in NH4Cl–NH3 buffer of pH 10.1, the linear range between the peak current and the concentration of lactose was 0.6–8.4 mg L−1, and the detection limits was 0.44 mg L−1. The proposed method was applied to the determination of lactose in food samples and satisfactory results were obtained.

Numerical investigations of linear least squares methods for derivative estimation

The results of a numerical investigation into the errors for least squares estimates of function gradients are presented. The underlying algorithm is obtained by constructing a least squares problem using a truncated Taylor expansion. An error bound associated with this method contains in its numerator terms related to the Taylor series remainder, while its denominator contains the smallest singular value of the least squares matrix. Perhaps for this reason the error bounds are often found to be pessimistic by several orders of magnitude. The circumstance under which these poor estimates arise is elucidated and an empirical correction of the theoretical error bounds is conjectured and investigated numerically. This is followed by an indication of how the conjecture is supported by a rigorous argument.

The application of the statutory derivative action in Pt 2F.1A of the Corporations Act to companies in liquidation under Ch 5 : Well oiled machine or is Pt 2F.1A in need of a tune up?

The statutory derivative action was introduced in Australia in 2000. This right of action has been debated in the literature and introduced in a number of other jurisdictions as well. However, it is by no means clear that all issues have been resolved despite its operation in Australia for over 10 years. This article considers the application of Pt 2F.1A of the Corporations Act to companies in liquidation under Ch 5. It demonstrates that the application involves consideration of not only proper statutory interpretation but also policy matters around the role and the supervision by the court of a liquidator once a company has entered liquidation.

Spectral approximations to the fractional integral and derivative

In this paper, the spectral approximations are used to compute the fractional integral and the Caputo derivative. The effective recursive formulae based on the Legendre, Chebyshev and Jacobi polynomials are developed to approximate the fractional integral. And the succinct scheme for approximating the Caputo derivative is also derived. The collocation method is proposed to solve the fractional initial value problems and boundary value problems. Numerical examples are also provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the derived methods.
