Two-way relaying systems are known to be capable of providing higher spectral efficiency compared with one-way relaying systems. However, the channel estimation problem for two-way relaying systems becomes more complicated. In this paper, we propose a superimposed channel training scheme for two-way MIMO relay communication systems, where the individual channel information for users-relay and relay-users links are estimated. The optimal structure of the source and relay training sequences are derived when the mean-squared error (MSE) of channel estimation is minimized. We also optimize the power allocation between the source and relay training sequences to improve the performance of the algorithm. Numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the performance of the proposed channel training algorithm.

In this algorithm, a relay training sequence is superimposed on the received signals at the relay node to assist the estimation of the second-hop channel matrices. The optimal structure of the source and relay training sequences is derived to minimize the meansquared error (MSE) of channel estimation. We also derive the optimal power allocation between the source and relay training sequences. Numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, we investigate the channel estimation problem for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay communication systems with time-varying channels. The time-varying characteristic of the channels is described by the complex-exponential basis expansion model (CE-BEM). We propose a superimposed channel training algorithm to estimate the individual first-hop and second-hop time-varying channel matrices for MIMO relay systems. In particular, the estimation of the second-hop time-varying channel matrix is performed by exploiting the superimposed training sequence at the relay node, while the first-hop time-varying channel matrix is estimated through the source node training sequence and the estimated second-hop channel. To improve the performance of channel estimation, we derive the optimal structure of the source and relay training sequences that minimize the mean-squared error (MSE) of channel estimation. We also optimize the relay amplification factor that governs the power allocation between the source and relay training sequences. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed superimposed channel training algorithm for MIMO relay systems with time-varying channels outperforms the conventional two-stage channel estimation scheme.

Baseia-se em uma pesquisa interinstitucional que focaliza o âmbito mais amplo em que são formuladas e implementadas as políticas de formação de professores no Estado de São Paulo. Tem por objetivo contribuir para a elucidação das forças presentes em movimentos de reforma curricular nos cursos de licenciatura, cotejando dados e aspectos socioculturais e institucionais circundantes. A análise incide sobre projetos pedagógicos de dois cursos de Letras de duas universidades públicas paulistas. Essas instituições desenvolveram, nos últimos anos, projetos ou ações de formação de professores para a escola básica, e é nesse contexto que se inserem os projetos pedagógicos analisados, que são tomados como exemplos de caminhos diferenciados que as universidades traçam, influenciadas pela história de cada instituição. O procedimento de pesquisa adotado foi a análise documental e o conceito de currículo em processo orientou as reflexões desenvolvidas. Reafirma-se, como em outros estudos, que a necessária integração entre saberes pedagógicos e saberes provenientes da área de referência continua sendo tarefa difícil, que as circunstâncias na criação dos cursos e a formação superposta deixou suas marcas nas instituições e que as tentativas para superá-la constituem exemplos esparsos e não modelos generalizados, o que ressalta a relevância da continuidade das pesquisas sobre o currículo dos cursos de licenciatura.

Eighteen participants (22-43 years) were randomly allocated to one of two groups: resistance training combined with vibration (VIB; five males, four females) or resistance training alone (CON; five males, four females). Each participant trained three sessions per week (three sets of 10 seated calf raises against a load, which was increased progressively from 75% of one repetition maximum (1RM) to 90% 1RM for 4 weeks. For the VIB group, a vibratory stimulus (30 Hz, 2.5 mm amplitude) was applied to the soles of the feet by a vibration platform. Preeclampsia is among the leading causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity, affecting 2-7% of pregnancies. Its incidence increases to 10-25% in already hypertensive women. To date, no treatment, aside from delivery, is known. Interestingly, several studies have reported that exercise training (ExT) can reduce preeclampsia prevalence although the available studies are considered insufficient. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the impact of ExT when practiced before and during gestation on pregnancy outcome in a mouse model of preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension (SPE). To do so, mice overexpressing both human angiotensinogen and renin (R+A+) were used because they are hypertensive at baseline and they develop many hallmark features of SPE. Mice were trained by placing them in a cage with access to a running wheel 4 weeks before and during gestation. ExT in this study prevented the rise in blood pressure at term observed in the sedentary transgenic mothers. This may be realized through an increased activity of the angiotensin-(1-7) axis in the aorta. In addition, ExT prevented the increase in albumin/creatinine ratio. Moreover, placental alterations were prevented with training in transgenic mice, leading to improvements in placental and fetal development. Placental mRNA and circulating levels of sFlt-1 were normalized with training. Additionally, the increase in angiotensin II type I receptor and the decrease in Mas receptor protein were reversed with training. ExT appears to prevent many SPE-like features that develop in this animal model and may be of use in the prevention of preeclampsia in women.

A simulation-based training system for surgical wound debridement was developed and comprises a multimedia introduction, a surgical simulator (tutorial component), and an assessment component. The simulator includes two PCs, a haptic device, and mirrored display. Debridement is performed on a virtual leg model with a shallow laceration wound superimposed. Trainees are instructed to remove debris with forceps, scrub with a brush, and rinse with saline solution to maintain sterility. Research and development issues currently under investigation include tissue deformation models using mass-spring system and finite element methods; tissue cutting using a high-resolution volumetric mesh and dynamic topology; and accurate collision detection, cutting, and soft-body haptic rendering for two devices within the same haptic space.

Indian marine engineers are renowned for employment globally due to their knowledge, skill and reliability. This praiseworthy status has been achieved mainly due to the systematic training imparted to marine engineering cadets. However, in an era of advancing technology, marine engineering training has to remain dynamic to imbibe latest technology as well as to meet the demands of the shipping industry. New subjects of studies have to be included in the curriculum in a timely manner taking into consideration the industry requirements and best practices in shipping. Technical competence of marine engineers also has to be subjected to changes depending upon the needs of the ever growing and over regulated shipping industry. Besides. certain soft skills are to be developed and improved amongst the marine engineers in order to alter or amend the personality traits leading to their career success.If timely corrective action is taken. Indian marine engineers can be in still greater demand for employment in global maritime field. In order to enhance the employability of our mmine engineers by improving their quality, a study of marine engineers in general and class IV marine engineers in particular was conducted based on three distinct surveys, viz., survey among senior marine engineers, survey among employers of marine engineers and survey of class IV marine engineers themselves.The surveys have been planned and questionnaires have been designed to focus the study of marine engineer officer class IV from the point of view of the three distinct groups of maritime personnels. As a result of this, the strength and weakness of class IV marine engineers are identified with regard to their performance on board ships, acquisition of necessary technical skills. employability and career success. The criteria of essential qualities of a marine engineer are classified as academic, technical, social, psychological. physical, mental, emergency responsive, communicative and leadership, and have been assessed for a practicing marine engineer by statistical analysis of data collected from surveys. These are assessed for class IV marine engineers from the point of view of senior marine engineers and employers separately. The Endings are delineated and graphically depicted in this thesis.Besides. six pertinent personality traits of a marine engineer viz. self esteem. learning style. decision making. motivation. team work and listening self inventory have been subjected to study and their correlation with career success have been established wherever possible. This is carried out to develop a theoretical framework to understand what leads a marine engineer to his career attainment. This enables the author to estimate the personality strengths and weaknesses of a serving marine engineer and eventually to deduce possible corrective measures or modifications in marine engineering training in India.Maritime training is largely based on International Conventions on Standard of Training. Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers 1995. its associated Code and Merchant Shipping (STCW for Seafarers) Rules 1998. Further, Maritime Education, Training and Assessment (META) Manual was subjected to a critical scrutiny and relevant Endings of thc surveys arc superimposed on the existing rule requirement and curriculum. Views of senior marine engineers and executives of various shipping companies are taken into account before arriving at the revision of syllabus of marine engineering courses. Modifications in the pattern of workshop and sea service for graduate mechanical engineering trainees are recommended. Desirable age brackets of junior engineers and chief engineers. use of Training and Assessment Record book (TAR Book) during training etc. have also been evaluated.As a result of the pedagogic introspection of the existing system of marine engineering training in India. in this thesis, a revised pattern of workshop training of six months duration for graduate mechanical engineers. revised pattern of sea service training of one year duration and modified now diagram incorporating the above have been arrived at. Effects of various personality traits on career success have been established along with certain findings for improvement of desirable personality traits of marine engineers.
