Sintered bars of YBa2Cu3O7-x obtained by slip-casting are investigated for drying and sintering behaviour. High J(cm) values (approximate to 10(6) A/cm(2) at 77K) are obtained, although J(ct) values are low (approximate to 10(2) A/cm(2) at 77K). Microstructural characterisation is undertaken on selected samples which demonstrate significant differences in physical density and critical current density.

In order to rigorously test emerging applications using prototypes and pilot designs, high temperature superconductor (HTS) materials must be fabricated into a variety of shapes in an economical manner. We have developed a simple, economical, ceramic slip-casting approach to form complex shaped monolithic HTS articles for which high bulk density has been achieved. The sintered articles exhibit good Meissner signal and consist of phase-pure HTSC phase. A low transport critical current density is observed and is explained on the basis of densification and grain growth. © 1995 The Metallurgical of Society of AIME.

The surface chemistry and dispersion properties of aqueous Ti 3AlC2 suspension were studied in terms of hydrolysis, adsorption, electrokinetic, and rheological measurements. The Ti 3AlC2 particle had complex surface hydroxyl groups, such as ≡Ti-OH,=Al-OH, and -OTi-(OH)2, etc. The surface charging of the Ti3AlC2 particle and the ion environment of suspensions were governed by these surface groups, which thus strongly influenced the stability of Ti3AlC2 suspensions. PAA dispersant was added into the Ti3AlC2 suspension to depress the hydrolysis of the surface groups by the adsorption protection mechanism and to increase the stability of the suspension by the steric effect. Ti3AlC2 suspensions with 2.0 dwb% PAA had an excellent stability at pH=∼5 and presented the characteristics of Newtonian fluid. Based on the well-dispersed suspension, dense Ti3AlC2 materials were obtained by slip casting and after pressureless sintering. This work provides a feasible forming method for the engineering applications of MAX-phase ceramics, wherein complex shapes, large dimensions, or controlled microstructures are needed.

Composites containing a matrix of nanometric Ce-stabilized zirconia with an addition of micrometric monoclinic zirconia were processed by slip casting and sintered at a relatively low temperature. The ratio between nanometric and micrometric particles was determined according to the viscosity of the suspensions and the final density of the pellets. An optimum amount of micrometric particles was necessary to achieve improved suspension dispersion and higher pellet density. The amount of deflocculant in the suspensions containing the mixture of micrometric and nanometric particles was optimized by viscosity measurements. The pellets were characterized by dilatometry, Hg porosimetry, density measurement (the Archimedes method) and scanning electron microscopy. Despite the low green density obtained (35-38% of the theoretical density), densities as high as 97.5% were achieved after sintering. (C) 2001 Elsevier B.V. Ltd and Techna S.r.l. Sintering of SnO 2 compacts, obtained through slip casting, was studied by means of dilatometry, Hg porosimetry, scanning electron microscopy, and density measurement (Archimedes method). Sintering is strongly influenced by the green microstructure. Moreover, the sintering mechanisms are not dependent on the slurries' solid content up to 50% of solids in volume. Above this value, agglomerates are formed, leading to differential sintering inside and among the agglomerates. Another important point is the reduction of the temperature of maximum shrinkage rate when compared to tin oxide processed by isostatic pressing. This reduction is more accentuated when ammonium hydroxide is added to the suspension. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

The slip-casting technique, which is successfully employed in the ceramic industry, was utilized to produce sintered stainless steel components experimentally. The procedure used is described, along with an evaluation of the physical and mechanical properties of the samples produced. Specimens were made with properties comparable to those of wrought stainless steel and of cold pressed and sintered steel powder.

In this study, a well-dispersed γ-Y2Si2O 7 ethanol-based suspension with 30 vol% solid loading was prepared by adding 1 dwb% polyethylene imine dispersant, which allows feeble magnetic γ-Y2Si2O7 particles with anisotropic magnetic susceptibility to rotate in a 12 T strong magnetic field during slip casting, resulting in the development of a strong texture in green bodies. Pressureless sintering gives rise to more pronounced grain growth in the textured sample than in the untextured sample prepared without the magnetic field due to the rapid migration of the grain boundaries of the well-oriented grains, which was revealed by constant-heating-rate sintering kinetics. It was found that the use of two-step sintering is very efficient not only for inhibiting the grain growth but also for enhancing the texture. This implies that controlled grain growth is crucial for enhancing texture development in γ-Y2Si2O7.

以多孔石膏模具为成型载体,以8mol%钇稳定氧化锆(YSZ)粉体为原料,采用注浆法制备出具一定体积和形状的全稳定YSZ固体电解质。对注浆成型工艺中制备素坯的各个环节的主要影响因素(粘结剂种类及用量的选择、固相含量、球磨时间等)与浆料稳定性、流动性及素坯密度之间进行优化实验,确定了制备悬浮稳定、流动性好的浆料的实验参数。 将利用上述浆料于多孔石膏模中成型后的素坯进行等静压操作,进一步提高其致密度,为制备致密化高的电解质材料奠定了条件。结果表明:注浆成型后的素坯在进一步等静压处理后相对密度可达53%左右,可以说注浆成型法是一种成型具一定体积素坯的简单可行的方法。 继而将成型后的素坯于不同的烧结条件下进行常压烧结,并对烧结后YSZ固体电解质的致密化程度、微观形貌(SEM)及导电性能进行测量和表征,借助于交流阻抗谱测量其导电性,采用氧浓差电池法测定其离子迁移数(能斯特响应)。通过对烧结体的性能分析,建立其致密程度、导电性与烧结条件之间的关系,并以此为依据来优化烧结工艺。 结果表明:样品的致密度随烧结温度和烧结时间的增加而提高,电导率随着致密度的提高而不断增加,其中在1550℃烧结3h的电解质制品500℃时的阻抗测试结果表明其离子导电率已超过投入实际使用的最小限定值;结合样品的微观形貌分析,在较高的烧结温度下晶粒增长显著,平均粒径可以达到微米级,而低温下增长不显著。 立足于砖层模型和多晶电解质晶界空间电荷层导电特性,对不同粒径的YSZ多晶固体电解质材料的晶界电导进行分析,结果表明随平均粒径的减小,YSZ多晶固体电解质材料晶界空间电荷层电势减小,而其中氧空位浓度增加,因此可以说,对高纯物质而言,晶粒的减小有助于提高其整体电导性。因而就优化烧结工艺而言,要制备高性能YSZ固体电解质可以以达到高致密度、抑制晶粒显著生长为原则来进行探讨。

The chemical compositions of calcium phosphate materials are similar to that of bone making them very attractive for use in the repair of critical size bone defects. The bioresorption of calcium phosphate occurs principally by dissolution. To determine the impact of composition and flow conditions on dissolution rates, calcium phosphate tablets were prepared by slip casting of ceramic slips with different ratios of hydroxyapatite (HA) and ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP). Dissolution was evaluated at pH4 using both a static and dynamic flow regime. Both the composition of the HA:ß-TCP tablet and flow regime noticeably influenced the rate of dissolution; the 50:50 HA:ß-TCP composition demonstrating the greatest level of dissolution, and, exposure of the ceramic specimens to dynamic conditions producing the highest rate of dissolution. Understanding the impact of phase composition and flow condition with respect to the dissolution of calcium phosphate will aid in the development and improvement of materials for bone substitution.

Desenvolveu-se um novo método de processamento coloidal em meio aquoso para consolidar cerâmicos de α-Y-SiAlON, os quais foram sinterizados por prensagem isostática a quente (HIP) e por spark plasma sintering (SPS). Preparou-se com sucesso uma suspensão aquosa de pós precursores de YSiAlON (Si3N4, Al2O3, Y2O3 e AlN), temporariamente estável, usando Dolapix PC21 como dispersante, permitindo a fabricação de pós granulados pela técnica de aspersão-congelamento-liofilização e a consolidação de corpos em verde por enchimento por barbotina. Avaliou-se o efeito do excesso de oxigénio introduzido pelo processamento aquoso no desenvolvimento microestrutural e nas propriedades mecânicas. Os corpos de Y-SiAlON consolidados por enchimento por barbotina e sinterizados por HIP a 1800ºC apresentaram microestruturas e propriedades mecânicas similares a corpos consolidados por prensagem a seco. Estes materiais exibiram densificação completa, dureza Vickers máxima de 2003 e tenacidade à fractura (método SEVNB) máxima de 5.20 MPam1/2. Foi ainda possível estabelecer uma relação estreita entre o aumento do conteúdo em oxigénio das amostras sinterizadas e a diminuição da tenacidade à fractura. Na tentativa de melhorar a tenacidade à fractura dos materiais, procedeu-se à incorporação nas suspensões de sementes de Ca-α-SiAlON de geometria alongada produzidas por síntese por combustão, adicionadas como agentes de reforço. A síntese por combustão realizada em larga escala (cargas até 1 kg) não produziu efeitos negativos óbvios nos produtos da reacção. Investigara-se os efeitos da adição de 5 % em peso de sementes nas propriedades mecânicas e no desenvolvimento microestrutural de amostras densificadas por HIP. Em comparação com os materiais sem sementes, a tenacidade à fractura (método SEVNB) aumentou 13%, mas a dureza Vickers resultou 14,5% inferior. A sinterização por SPS permitiu obter densificação completa a temperaturas tão baixas como 1600ºC a partir dos pós granulados de Y-SiAlON sem a adição extra de Y2O3 para aumentar o teor de fase líquida. Os materiais sinterizados a 1700ºC e 1600ºC mostraram valores máximos de tenacidade à fractura de 4.36 e 4.20 MPam1/2 (método SEVNB), e de dureza Vickers de 2089 e 2084, respectivamente. Esta técnica de sinterização permitiu ainda obter corpos sinterizados translúcidos com uma transmitância máxima de 61% numa amostra de 2mm de espessura. Os corpos translúcidos apresentaram dureza Vickers de 2154 e tenacidade à fractura 3.74 MPam1/2 (método SEVNB).

Hybrid photocatalysts based on an adsorbent SiMgOx and a photocatalyst TiO(2) were developed in a plate shape. The ceramic surface was coated with TiO(2) by the slip-casting technique. The effect of the support in the photocatalytic degradation of trichloroethylene (TCE) was analyzed by modifying TiO(2) loading and the layer thickness. Photocatalysts were characterised by N(2) adsorption-desorption, mercury intrusion porosimetry, SEM, UV-vis spectroscopy and XRD. A direct relationship between the TiO(2) content and the photocatalytic activity was observed up to three layers of TiO(2) (0.66 wt.%). Our results indicate that intermediate species generated on the TiO(2) layer can migrate through relatively long distances to react with the OH(-) surface groups of the support. By increasing the TiO(2) loading of the photocatalyst two effects were observed: trichloroethylene conversion is enhanced, while the efficiency of the oxidation process is decreased at expenses of increasing the selectivity to COCl(2) and dichloroacetylchloride (DCAC). The results are discussed in terms of the layer thickness, TiO(2) amount, TCE conversion and CO(2), and COCl(2) selectivity. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The system in-Ceram Alumina, produced by VITA, consists in a technique of prepare of a substructure of ceramics to dental crowns. First burning is made in the alumina decanted by slip casting process under a stone die that reproduces the tooth prepared to receive a crown. In a second burning, alumina is infiltrated by vitreous system, giving to this set a high mechanic resistance. In this work, it s made a study of the composition of a new infiltrating material more used nowadays, giving to alumina desirable mechanics proprieties to its using like substructure of support to ceramic s crown used in the market today. The addition of Lanthanum oxide (frit A) and calcium oxide (frit B) was made in attempt to increase the viscosity of LZSA and to reduce fusion temperature. The frits were put over samples of alumina and took to the tubular oven to 1400ºC under vacuum for two groups (groups 1 and 2). For another two groups (groups 3 and 4) it was made a second infiltration, following the same parameters of the first. A fifth group was utilized like group of control where the samples of pure alumina were not submitted to any infiltrating process. Glasses manifested efficient both in quality and results of analysis of mechanic resistance, being perfectly compatible with oral environment in this technical requisite. The groups that made a second infiltration had he best results of fracture toughness, qualify the use in the oral cavity in this technical question. The average of results achieved for mechanic resistance to groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were respectively 98 MPa, 90 MPa, 144 MPa, 236 MPa and 23 MPa
