In this paper an electrically controllable radial birefringent pupil filter is proposed. It consists of two polarizers and an improved electrically controllable optical azimuth rotator which has two lambda/4 retarders, one electro-optical crystal and one radial birefringent crystal. The evolution and distribution of polarization states of this pupil filter are discussed. The most interesting and useful advantage of such a structure is that the characteristic of transverse superresolution and axial extended focal depth or focal shift can be obtained merely by controlling the applied voltage on the electro-optical crystal. The radial birefringent crystal azimuth angle cooperating with different electrical inductive phase differences will determine the transverse and axial intensity distribution. It is shown that for particular ranges of electrical inductive phase difference it is possible to obtain transverse superresolution along with extended focal depth or with a focal shift.

Reshaping of a Gaussian laser beam into a uniform or other intensity distribution is required for various applications. The laser beam shaping system with a radial birefringent filter is presented in this paper. With such a system the Gaussian beams can be transformed into uniform or annular beams. The theory and simulation of the proposed systems are described in detail. The primary advantage of such a system is that the out beam pro. le can be tunable with the rotation of the radial birefringent element.

We examined methods of controlling the pulse duration, spectral width and wavelength of the output from an all-fiber Yb laser mode-locked by carbon nanotubes. It is shown that a segment of polarization maintaining (PM) fiber inserted into a standard single mode fiber based laser cavity can function as a spectral selective filter. Adjustment of the length of the PM fiber from 1 to 2 m led to a corresponding variation in the pulse duration from 2 to 3.8 ps, the spectral bandwidth of the laser output changes from 0.15 to 1.26 nm. Laser output wavelength detuning within up to 5 nm was demonstrated with a fixed length of the PM fiber by adjustment of the polarization controller. © 2012 Optical Society of America.

超分辨技术因其可以超越经典的衍射极限而为人们所熟知.并且.在光存储和共焦扫描成像系统中有着广泛的应用。把由两个偏振器和一个圆对称的双折射元件组成的径向双折射滤波器引入超分辨技术,借助琼斯算法推导出其光瞳函数的表达式。由分析得出通过改变径向双折射滤波器中偏振器的偏振方向和双折射元件的主轴之间的夹角,即可实现光学系统的横向超分辨或轴向超分辨。同时对评价该器件超分辨性能的参量第一零点比、斯特尔比和旁瓣强度抑制比做了详细的讨论。该滤波器用于超分辨技术的优点在于其制作不涉及相位的变化而比较简单,且费用比较低。缺点是

提出一种光瞳滤波器来同时实现横向超分辨和轴向焦移效应的电控制.该光瞳滤波器由两偏光镜及包含有径向双折射元件的任意偏振态的电控旋光器组成。利用径向双折射元件对光偏振态的空间调制作用,结合旋光器对任意偏振态光的旋光作用,与两个偏光镜结合,实现了空间偏振态的重新分布.利用庞加莱球及琼斯理论进行了分析,结果表明,借助这种电致位相延迟来实现的偏振态调制效应,可同时实现横向超分辨与轴向焦移效应。对能够同时获得横向超分辨与轴向焦移的情况进行了分析,得到了系统各组成参量及电光调制范围。

The radial continuous transmittance filter is presented to realize transverse superresolution. It consists of two parallel polarizers and a radial birefringent element sandwiched between of them. By adjusting the angle between optical axis of the radial birefringent element and the polarization direction of the polarizers, transverse superresolution can be realized. But transverse superresolution is obtained at the cost of the axial resolution and the increase of the side-lobes in strength. So we then mend such filter, with it not only enhance the transverse resolution but also suppress the influence of the side-lobes and the reduction of the axial resolution. At the same time, the Strehl ratio increases. The advantage of such a filter used in superresolution technique is that it is easy to fabricate because its fabrication does not deal with the variation of the phase. (c) 2005 Elsevier GmbH. A two-mode adjustable superresolving filter based on a birefringent filter is proposed. This kind of filter has superresolution in two modes of adjustment. One is rotation of the binary pupil filter on the optical axis of the system and the other is the tilt of the filter away from the pupil plane on axis parallel or perpendicular to the optical axis of the crystal. The filters act as complex amplitude filters in the former mode, and as pure phase filters in the latter. By analyzing two superresolving parameters, we obtain the optimal design parameters that ensure a large field of view, a large superresolving range, and a high setting accuracy. We demonstrate an all-fiber-integrated Er-doped fiber laser operating in the soliton-similariton mode-locking regime. In the similariton part of the cavity, a self-similarly evolving parabolic pulse with highly linear chirp propagates in the presence of normal dispersion. Following an in-line fiber-based birefringent filter, the pulse evolves into a soliton in the part of the cavity with anomalous dispersion. The similariton and the soliton pulses are dechirped to 75.5 and 167.2 fs, respectively, outside of the cavity. Mode-locked operation is very robust, owing to the influence of the two similariton and soliton attractors that predominate each half of the laser cavity. The experimental results are supported with numerical simulations, which provide good agreement.

We report on a record-high output power from an optically pumped quantum-dot vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser, optimized for high-power emission at 1040 nm. A maximum continuous-wave output power of 8.41 W is obtained at a heat sink temperature of 1.5 °C. By inserting a birefringent filter inside the laser cavity, a wavelength tuning over a range of 45 nm is achieved. © 2014 IEEE.

In this letter, we report on a high-power operation of an optically pumped quantum-dot semiconductor disk laser designed for emission at 1180 nm. As a consequence of the optimization of the operation conditions, a record-high continuous-wave output power exceeding 7 W is obtained for this wavelength at a heat-sink temperature of 2 °C. A wavelength tuning over a range of 37 nm is achieved using a birefringent filter inside the cavity.

The problem of denoising damage indicator signals for improved operational health monitoring of systems is addressed by applying soft computing methods to design filters. Since measured data in operational settings is contaminated with noise and outliers, pattern recognition algorithms for fault detection and isolation can give false alarms. A direct approach to improving the fault detection and isolation is to remove noise and outliers from time series of measured data or damage indicators before performing fault detection and isolation. Many popular signal-processing approaches do not work well with damage indicator signals, which can contain sudden changes due to abrupt faults and non-Gaussian outliers. Signal-processing algorithms based on radial basis function (RBF) neural network and weighted recursive median (WRM) filters are explored for denoising simulated time series. The RBF neural network filter is developed using a K-means clustering algorithm and is much less computationally expensive to develop than feedforward neural networks trained using backpropagation. The nonlinear multimodal integer-programming problem of selecting optimal integer weights of the WRM filter is solved using genetic algorithm. Numerical results are obtained for helicopter rotor structural damage indicators based on simulated frequencies. Test signals consider low order polynomial growth of damage indicators with time to simulate gradual or incipient faults and step changes in the signal to simulate abrupt faults. Noise and outliers are added to the test signals. The WRM and RBF filters result in a noise reduction of 54 - 71 and 59 - 73% for the test signals considered in this study, respectively. Their performance is much better than the moving average FIR filter, which causes significant feature distortion and has poor outlier removal capabilities and shows the potential of soft computing methods for specific signal-processing applications.

A new set of continuous superresolution filters is proposed which exhibits a radial superresolution performance with an extended depth of focus in an optical system by properly choosing the design parameters. Numerical simulation results of the performance parameters of the superresolution gain, the radial central core size, the Strehl ratio, the side-lobe factor and the depth of focus with different design parameters for the optimized patterns are displayed. We also give a design example for this kind of filter characterized by a birefringent element inserted between two parallel polarizers. This kind of filter would be useful in fields such as optical data storage systems.
