La presente investigación, tiene como objetivo analizar a partir de la segunda oleada migratoria de misiones protestantes norteamericanas hacia el centro y sur de América a finales de los 80s, la incidencia de estas en la organización interna, las estrategias para acceder al poder y el proyecto político de los partidos políticos, Partido de Acción Nacional (PAN) de México y Partido Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA) de El Salvador. Esta investigación pretende determinar la influencia de estas migraciones en la construcción, consolidación o transformación de los partidos políticos anteriormente mencionados, llegando así a una notoria tendencia derechista de estos en la actualidad, partiendo de que ambos partidos como ideología política son conservadores, y cuentan con una fuerte influencia republicana, sin dejar de lado una democracia cristiana y un propósito anticomunista.

The Downeast Fisheries Trail is an educational trail that showcases active and historic fisheries heritage sites, such as fish hatcheries, aquaculture facilities, fishing harbors, clam flats, processing plants and other related public places in an effort to educate residents and visitors about the importance of the region’s maritime heritage and the role of marine resources to the area’s economy.

Project selection is a complex decision-making process as it involves multiple objectives, constraints and stakeholders. Understanding the organisation, in particular organisational culture, is an essential stage in improving decision-making process. The influences of organisational culture on decision-making can be seen in the way people work as a team, act and cooperate in their teamwork to achieve the set goals, and also in how people think, prioritize and decide. This paper aims to give evidence of the impact of organisational culture on the decision-making process in project selection, in the Indonesian context. Data was collected from a questionnaire survey developed based on the existing models of organisational culture (Denison 1990, Hofstede 2001, and Glaser et al 1987). Four main cultural traits (involvement, consistency, mission and power-distance) were selected and employed to examine the influence of organisational culture on the effectiveness of decision-making in the current Indonesian project selection processes. The results reveal that there are differences in organisational cultures for two organisations in three provinces. It also suggests that organisational culture (particularly the traits of ‘involvement’, ‘consistency’ and ‘mission’) contribute to the effectiveness of decision-making in the selected cases.

Rats are superior to the most advanced robots when it comes to creating and exploiting spatial representations. A wild rat can have a foraging range of hundreds of meters, possibly kilometers, and yet the rodent can unerringly return to its home after each foraging mission, and return to profitable foraging locations at a later date (Davis, et al., 1948). The rat runs through undergrowth and pipes with few distal landmarks, along paths where the visual, textural, and olfactory appearance constantly change (Hardy and Taylor, 1980; Recht, 1988). Despite these challenges the rat builds, maintains, and exploits internal representations of large areas of the real world throughout its two to three year lifetime. While algorithms exist that allow robots to build maps, the questions of how to maintain those maps and how to handle change in appearance over time remain open. The robotic approach to map building has been dominated by algorithms that optimise the geometry of the map based on measurements of distances to features. In a robotic approach, measurements of distance to features are taken with range-measuring devices such as laser range finders or ultrasound sensors, and in some cases estimates of depth from visual information. The features are incorporated into the map based on previous readings of other features in view and estimates of self-motion. The algorithms explicitly model the uncertainty in measurements of range and the measurement of self-motion, and use probability theory to find optimal solutions for the geometric configuration of the map features (Dissanayake, et al., 2001; Thrun and Leonard, 2008). Some of the results from the application of these algorithms have been impressive, ranging from three-dimensional maps of large urban strucutures (Thrun and Montemerlo, 2006) to natural environments (Montemerlo, et al., 2003).

Project selection is a complex decision making process that is not merely influenced by the technical aspects of the project. Selection of road infrastructure projects in the Indonesian public sector is generally conducted at an organisational level, which involves multiple objectives, constraints and stakeholders. Hence, a deeper understanding of the various organisational drivers that impact on such decisions, in particular organisational culture, is much needed for improving decision-making processes as it has been posited by some researchers that organisational culture can become either an enabler, or a barrier, to the process. One part of the cultural assessment undertaken as part of the research, identifies and analyses the cultural types of relevant and involved organisations in the decision making process. The organisational culture assessment instrument (OCAI) of Cameron and Quinn (2011) was utilized in this study and the data was taken from three selected provinces in Indonesia. The results can facilitate the surveyed (and similar) organisations to improve their performance by moving towards a more appropriate cultural typology that is arguably better suited to their operations and to improving their organisational processes to more closely align with their organisational vision, mission and objectives.

In seeking to achieve Australian workplaces free from injury and disease NOHSC works to lead and coordinate national efforts to prevent workplace death, injury and disease. We seek to achieve our mission through the quality and relevance of information we provide and to influence the activities of all parties with roles in improving Australia’s OHS performance. NOHSC has five strategic objectives: • improving national data systems and analysis, • improving national access to OHS information, • improving national components of the OHS and related regulatory framework, • facilitating and coordinating national OHS research efforts, • monitoring progress against the National OHS Improvement Framework. This publication is a contribution to achieving those objectives

The intent of this field mission was to continue ongoing efforts: (1) to spatially characterize and monitor the distribution, abundance and size of both reef fishes and conch within and around the waters of the Virgin Islands National Park (VIIS) and newly established Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument (VICR), (2) to correlate this information to in-situ data collected on associated habitat parameters, (3) to use this information to establish the knowledge base necessary for enacting management decisions in a spatial setting and to establish the efficacy of those management decisions. This work is supported by the National Park Service and NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program’s Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystem Monitoring Project.

Water service providers (WSPs) in the UK have statutory obligations to supply drinking water to all customers that complies with increasingly stringent water quality regulations and minimum flow and pressure criteria. At the same time, the industry is required by regulators and investors to demonstrate increasing operational efficiency and to meet a wide range of performance criteria that are expected to improve year-on-year. Most WSPs have an ideal for improving the operation of their water supply systems based on increased knowledge and understanding of their assets and a shift to proactive management followed by steadily increasing degrees of system monitoring, automation and optimisation. The fundamental mission is, however, to ensure security of supply, with no interruptions and water quality of the highest standard at the tap. Unfortunately, advanced technologies required to fully understand, manage and automate water supply system operation either do not yet exist, are only partially evolved, or have not yet been reliably proven for live water distribution systems. It is this deficiency that the project NEPTUNE seeks to address by carrying out research into 3 main areas; these are: data and knowledge management; pressure management (including energy management); and the associated complex decision support systems on which to base interventions. The 3-year project started in April of 2007 and has already resulted in a number of research findings under the three main research priority areas (RPA). The paper summarises in greater detail the overall project objectives, the RPA activities and the areas of research innovation that are being undertaken in this major, UK collaborative study.
