The electro-optic effect in uniaxial crystals for light propagating near the optic axis with any polarization has been analyzed. The passive and the electrically induced birefringences and the rotation of polarization direction in crystals have been calculated, and the conoscopic interference figures under orthogonal polariscopes for different polarizer directions have been plotted. The extinction areas caused by the rotation of polarization direction in crystals change with the polarizer direction, but the two heads of the induced optical axes do not vary, which are always on the induced principal axis with bigger refractive index. The directions of polariscopes are always extinction, and the +/- 45 degrees directions with polarizer are always complete transmission. The conoscopic interference figures for LiNbO3 crystals have been demonstrated experimentally by rotating polariscopes directions, which accord with the theoretically calculating plots. For decades it has been a well-known fact that among the few ferroelectric compounds in the perovskite family, namely, BaTiO3, KNbO3, PbTiO3, and Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3, the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BaTiO3 are considerably higher than the others in polycrystalline form at room temperature. Further, similar to ferroelectric alloys exhibiting morphotropic phase boundary, single crystals of BaTiO3 exhibit anomalously large piezoelectric response when poled away from the direction of spontaneous polarization at room temperature. These anomalous features in BaTiO3 remained unexplained so far from the structural standpoint. In this work, we have used high-resolution synchrotron x-ray powder diffraction, atomic resolution aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy, in conjunction with a powder poling technique, to reveal that at 300 K (i) the equilibrium state of BaTiO3 is characterized by coexistence of metastable monoclinic Pm and orthorhombic (Amm2) phases along with the tetragonal phase, and (ii) strong electric field switches the polarization direction from the 001] direction towards the 101] direction. These results suggest that BaTiO3 at room temperature is within an instability regime, and that this instability is the fundamental factor responsible for the anomalous dielectric and piezoelectric properties of BaTiO3 as compared to the other homologous ferroelectric perovskite compounds at room temperature. Pure BaTiO3 at room temperature is therefore more akin to lead-based ferroelectric alloys close to the morphotropic phase boundary where polarization rotation and field induced ferroelectric-ferroelectric phase transformations play a fundamental role in influencing the dielectric and piezoelectric behavior.

Many experimental observations have shown that a single domain in a ferroelectric material switches by progressive movement of domain walls, driven by a combination of electric field and stress. The mechanism of the domain switch involves the following steps: initially, the domain has a uniform spontaneous polarization; new domains with the reverse polarization direction nucleate, mainly at the surface, and grow though the crystal thickness; the new domain expands sideways as a new domain continues to form; finally, the domain switch coalesces to complete the polarization reversal. According to this mechanism, the volume fraction of the domain switching is introduced in the constitutive law of the ferroelectric material and used to study the nonlinear constitutive behavior of a ferroelectric body in this paper. The principle of stationary total potential energy is put forward in which the basic unknown quantities are the displacement u(i), electric displacement D-i and volume fraction rho(I) of the domain switching for the variant I. The mechanical field equation and a new domain switching criterion are obtained from the principle of stationary total potential energy. The domain switching criterion proposed in this paper is an expansion and development of the energy criterion established by Hwang et al. [ 1]. Based on the domain switching criterion, a set of linear algebraic equations for determining the volume fraction rho(I) of domain switching is obtained, in which the coefficients of the linear algebraic equations only contain the unknown strain and electric fields. If the volume fraction rho(I) of domain switching for each domain is prescribed, the unknown displacement and electric potential can be obtained based on the conventional finite element procedure. It is assumed that a domain switches if the reduction in potential energy exceeds a critical energy barrier. According to the experimental results, the energy barrier will strengthen when the volume fraction of the domain switching increases. The external mechanical and electric loads are increased step by step. The volume fraction rho(I) of domain switching for each element obtained from the last loading step is used as input to the constitutive equations. Then the strain and electric fields are calculated based on the conventional finite element procedure. The finite element analysis is carried out on the specimens subjected to uniaxial coupling stress and electric field. Numerical results and available experimental data are compared and discussed. The present theoretic prediction agrees reasonably with the experimental results.

This paper reports self-organized nanostructures observed on the surface of ZnO crystal after irradiation by a focused beam of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser with a repetition rate of 250 kHz. For a linearly polarized femtosecond laser, the periodic nanograting structure on the ablation crater surface was promoted. The period of self-organization structures is about 180 nm. The grating orientation is adjusted by the laser polarization direction. A long range Bragg-like grating is formed by moving the sample at a speed of 10 mu m/s. For a circularly polarized laser beam, uniform spherical nanoparticles were formed as a result of Coulomb explosion during the interaction of near-infrared laser with ZnO crystal.

An acoustic-optics programmable dispersive filter (AOPDF) was first employed to actively control the linearly polarized femtosecond pump pulse frequency chirp for supercontinuum (SC) generation in a high birefringence photonic crystal fiber (PCF). By accurately controlling the second order phase distortion and polarization direction of incident pulses, the output SC spectrum can be tuned to various spectral energy distributions and bandwidths. The pump pulse energy and bandwidth are preserved in our experiment. It is found that SC with broader bandwidth can be generated with positive chirped pump pulses except when the chirp value is larger than the optimal value, and the same optimal value exists for the pump pulses polarized along the two principal axes. With optimal positive chirp, more than 78% of the pump energy can be transferred to below 750 nm. Otherwise, negative chirp will weaken the blue-shift broadening and the SC bandwidth. Periodic nanostructures are observed on the surface of ZnSe after irradiation by a focused beam of a femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser, which are aligned perpendicular to the laser polarization direction. The period of self-organized grating structures is about 160 nm. The phenomenon is interpreted in terms of interference between the incident light field and the surface scattered wave of 800-nm laser pulses. With the laser polarization parallel to the moving direction we produce long-range Bragg-like gratings by slowly moving the crystal under a fixed laser focus. The nanograting orientation is adjusted by laser polarization and the accumulation effect.

The recently observed anomaly in photoelectron angular distributions (PADs), the disappearance of the main lobes of PADs which should be usually in the direction of laser polarization, is reinterpreted as a minimum of generalized Bessel functions in the laser-polarization direction with the theory of nonperturbative quantum electrodynamics. The reinterpretation has no artificial fitting parameters and explains more features of the experimentally observed PADs, in contrast to the existing interpretation in which the anomaly is interpreted as a quantum interference of angular momentum partial waves. Some hierarchy anomalies are predicted for further experimental observations.

激光诱导周期性纳米微结构在多种材料包括电介质、半导体、金属和聚合物中观察到。研究了800 nm和400 nm飞秒激光垂直聚焦于6H SiC晶体表面制备纳米微结构。实验观察到800 nm和400 nm线偏光照射样品表面分别得到周期为150 nm和80 nm的干涉条纹, 800 nm圆偏振激光单独照射样品表面得到粒径约100 nm的纳米颗粒。偏振相互垂直的800 nm和400 nm激光同时照射晶体得到粒径约100 nm的纳米颗粒阵列, 该纳米阵列的方向随400 nm激光强度增加而向400 nm偏振方向偏转。利

The single ionization of an He atom by intense linearly polarized laser field in the tunneling regime is studied by S- matrix theory. When only the first term of the expansion of the S matrix is considered and time, spatial distribution, and fluctuation of the laser pulse are taken into account, the obtained momentum distribution in the polarization direction of laser field is consistent with the semiclassical calculation, which only considers tunneling and the interaction between the free electron and external field. When the second term, which includes the interaction between the core and the free electron, is considered, the momentum distribution shows a complex multipeak structure with the central minimum and the positions of some peaks are independent of the intensity in some intensity regime, which is consistent with the recent experimental result. Based on our analysis, we found that the structures observed in the momentum distribution of an He atom are attributed to the " soft" collision of the tunneled electron with the core.

提出了一种将光弹调制器应用于偏振方向调制的方法.介绍了它的两种基本使用模式,利用琼斯矩阵对其偏振方向调制原理及其两种基本使用模式进行了分析。光弹调制器和1/4波片形成偏振方向调制器件时,光弹调制器处于两块透光轴相互垂直的1/4波片之间.且光弹调制器的振动轴分别和两块1/4波片的透光轴成±45°角,线偏振光通过此器件其偏振方向被调制。实验验证了光弹调制器组合1/4波片调制偏振方向的原理。将光弹调制器应用在偏振方向的调制中.使现有偏振方向调制技术的光谱范围扩展到了紫外波段。

分析了在垂直LiNbO3晶体光轴方向加电压,光沿近光轴方向传播时,入射光偏振方向对电光调制器的影响。通过计算加电场后双折射光程差的变化和偏光振动方向的转动,画出在正交偏振镜下不同起偏方向的锥光干涉图,得到干涉图随起偏方向变化的规律:由偏光振动方向转动引起的消光区域随起偏方向的转动而转动,在起偏和检偏方向上始终消光,在与起偏方向成±45°角方向始终全透光,并且消光线的交点即感应双光轴头不随起偏方向的转动而变化,始终在折射率变大的感应主轴上。

对存在偏振模色散(PMD)和群时延(GD)抖动的非理想线性啁啾光纤光栅的色散补偿特性进行了研究。实验测量了啁啾光纤光栅的群时延谱和偏振模色散光谱,理论分析和实验测量表明,啁啾光纤光栅差分群时延(DGD)抖动与其时延抖动密切相关。通过数值模拟方法,计算了线性啁啾光纤光栅偏振模色散眼图代价与入射到啁啾光纤光栅色散补偿器的光信号的偏振方向的关系,计算结果表明在使用啁啾光纤光栅色散补偿器时应对光信号的偏振方向进行调整,以获得最佳补偿效果。另外结合实验数据,模拟计算并讨论了非理想线性啁啾光纤光栅群时延抖动和偏振模色

The radial continuous transmittance filter is presented to realize transverse superresolution. It consists of two parallel polarizers and a radial birefringent element sandwiched between of them. By adjusting the angle between optical axis of the radial birefringent element and the polarization direction of the polarizers, transverse superresolution can be realized. But transverse superresolution is obtained at the cost of the axial resolution and the increase of the side-lobes in strength. So we then mend such filter, with it not only enhance the transverse resolution but also suppress the influence of the side-lobes and the reduction of the axial resolution. At the same time, the Strehl ratio increases. The advantage of such a filter used in superresolution technique is that it is easy to fabricate because its fabrication does not deal with the variation of the phase. (c) 2005 Elsevier GmbH. 基于石英晶体的旋光特性,我们提出利用石英晶体平凸透镜和偏振片来实现线偏振光的空间强度整形,通过控制入射光的偏振方向可以方便地改变输出激光的空间强度分布。
