Circus 1 to 3 is a circus school, based on the concept of New Circus, for boys resident in St. Patrick's Training School, Northern Ireland. The project is designed, not only to teach Circus skills, but also to foster social and personal skills. This report details an evaluation undertaken to assess die extent to which this programme meets these aims. A study of participants Circus records indicated that significant gains in co-operative behaviour, team-work, attitude and participation, as rated by Circus tutors, were evident over the course of boys involvement. A qualitative study was also conducted. These interviews with Circus 1 to 3 participants indicated that this project enhanced the quality of life for boys resident in St. Patrick's Training School. In addition the project, through the use of positive feedback, provides opportunities for boys to develop their social and personal skills. This evaluation concludes that Circus 1 to 3 is a worthwhile and successful endeavour.

The design grows out of the rich culture of circus and the rugged dynamic topography of Chongqing. The site for this project is nestled on the banks of the mighty Yangzte, China's longest river: a vast sweeping watery ribbon carving its way through the mountainous terrain. This swirling sinuous environmental thread replicates in nature the tweisting ribbons circling the gyrating circus gymnast. The project grows from intertwining these swirling parallel conceptions of 'ribbon'. A multi-layered envelope of glass and steel ribbons creates a dome like enclosure that wraps itself around the dynamic performing heart of the circus. The main auditorium and stage area are accommodated in this space. Key public elements and facilities are located adjacent to the new riverfront boulevard maximising the positive relationship with this attractive landscape zone. Service and support areas are located along the southern boundary. This dissertation aims at extending the JCircus tool, a translator of formal specifications into code that receives a Circus specification as input, and translates the specification into Java code. Circus is a formal language whose syntax is based on Z s and CSP s syntax. JCircus generated code uses JCSP, which is a Java API that implements CSP primitives. As JCSP does not implement all CSP s primitives, the translation strategy from Circus to Java is not trivial. Some CSP primitives, like parallelism, external choice, communication and multi-synchronization are partially implemented. As an aditional scope, this dissertation will also develop a tool for testing JCSP programs, called JCSPUnit, which will also be included in JCircus new version. The extended version of JCircus will be called JCircus 2.0.

The following paper is about the possible psychological effects of social circus, and our experiences with teaching circus methods in children psychiatry. In the beginning the paper try to place social circus in a wider theoretical frame, and searches for the place of it among psychological methods and therapies. We look at the wider and the more specific psychological constructs, what can be effected by social circus, especially the factors which are damaged in children with psycological or psychiatrycal problems. We examine the different parts of circus, how they can help in different problems. The further aim is to research the effects of a continuous social circus group, and to find it’s own way among psychotherapies.

The mixed double-decker Eu\[Pc(15C5)4](TPP) (1) was obtained by base-catalysed tetramerisation of 4,5-dicyanobenzo-15-crown-5 using the half-sandwich complex Eu(TPP)(acac) (acac = acetylacetonate), generated in situ, as the template. For comparative studies, the mixed triple-decker complexes Eu2\[Pc(15C5)4](TPP)2 (2) and Eu2\[Pc(15C5)4]2(TPP) (3) were also synthesised by the raise-by-one-story method. These mixed ring sandwich complexes were characterised by various spectroscopic methods. Up to four one-electron oxidations and two one-electron reductions were revealed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). As shown by electronic absorption and infrared spectroscopy, supramolecular dimers (SM1 and SM3) were formed from the corresponding double-decker 1 and triple-decker 3 in the presence of potassium ions in MeOH/CHCl3.
