A novel energy- and time-saving solution combustion method has been developed to prepare Eu:Y2O3 nano-crystal line phosphor. This novel method employs anhydrous ethanol as solvent and fuel. The prepared nano-crystals after heat-treatment own narrow size distribution, well dispersibility and sinterability, confirmed by XRD, TEM and FTIR. The emission spectra of nano-Eu:Y2O3 Samples show clear nano-size related phenomena. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

To overcome the isotropic directional emission of an ideal circular microdisk, two kinds of cylindrical mesa-like InGaAlP single quantum well (SQW) microdisks emitting at a visible red wavelength of 0.66 mu m have been fabricated. An anisotropic luminescence pattern was revealed by the microscopic fluorescence (FL) image. FL intensity, preferentially enhanced with twofold symmetry, appeared at the circumference of the InGaAlP SQW microdisks. Our results demonstrated that anisotropic radiation can be achieved by geometry shaping of the disks on the top view two-dimensional boundary slightly deformed from circular shape and/or on the side-view cross-section of the circular mesa by wet etching anisotropic undercut. Samples with different weight ratio of Se to zeolite 5A (Se composition) have been prepared by loading Se into the cages of zeolite 5A and the measurements of the absorption and Raman spectra have been carried out for the prepared samples. The measured absorption edges of the samples close and blue shifted to the value for monoclinic Se containing Se-8-ring, suggesting the formation of Se-8-ring clusters dagger in the cages. The continuous and broadening features of the absorption spectra are interpreted by the strong electron-phonon coupling in Se-8-ring clusters. The sample with high Se composition has a red shift of the absorption band edge relative to the samples with less Se composition. It is tentatively attributed to the reason that with different Se composition, single Se-8-ring clusters and double Se-8-ring clusters are formed in the cages of zeolite 5A. A single broad band at about 262 cm(-1) is observed in the Raman spectra, that gives the further support of the formation of Se-8-ring clusters. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd

The synthesis and characterization of CuO flower-nanostructure processed in domestic hydrothermal microwave oven was presented. Phase analysis was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and micro-Raman scattering (MRS) and the results confirmed the CuO flower-nanostructure as a single-phase. The field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM) was used to estimate the average spheres diameter while transmission electron microscope (TEM) to observe the thorn of the flower-nanostructures. The mechanism of CuO flower-nanostructures formation is proposed and explained. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
