998 resultados para ionization-induced defocusing
Resumo:
A quantitative study of refractive whole beam defocusing and small scale breakup induced by optical ionization of subpicosecond and picosecond, 0.25 and 1 mu m, laser pulses in gas-jet targets at densities above 1 x 10(19) cm(-3) has been carried out. A significant reduction of the incident laser intensity was observed due to refraction from ionization-induced density gradients. The level of refraction measured with optical probing correlated well with the fraction of energy transmitted through the plasma. The numerical and analytical models were found to agree well with experimental observations.

The 45 degrees scattering of a femtosecond (60 fs) intense laser pulse with a 20 nm FWHM (the full width at half maximum) spectrum centered at 790 nm has been studied experimentally while focused in argon clusters at intensity similar to 10(16) W/cm(2). Scattering spectra under different backing pressures and laser-plasma interaction lengths were obtained, which showed spectral blueshifting, beam refraction and complex modulation. These ionization-induced effects reveal the modulation of laser pulses propagating in plasmas and the existing obstacle in laser cluster interaction at high laser intensity and high electron density.

Filamentary ionization tracks have been observed via optical probing inside Al-coated glass targets after the interaction of a picosecond 20-TW laser pulse at intensities above 10(19) W/cm(2). The tracks, up to 700 mu m in length and between 10 and 20 mu m in width, originate from the focal spot region of the laser beam. Simulations performed with 3D particle-in-cell and 2D Fokker-Planck hybrid codes indicate that the observations are consistent with ionization induced in the glass target by magnetized, collimated beams of high-energy electrons produced during the laser interaction.

We address the influence of the orbital symmetry and the molecular alignment with respect to the laser-field polarization on laser-induced nonsequential double ionization of diatomic molecules, in the length and velocity gauges. We work within the strong-field approximation and assume that the second electron is dislodged by electron-impact ionization, and also consider the classical limit of this model. We show that the electron-momentum distributions exhibit interference maxima and minima due to electron emission at spatially separated centers. The interference patterns survive integration over the transverse momenta for a small range of alignment angles, and are sharpest for parallel-aligned molecules. Due to the contributions of the transverse-momentum components, these patterns become less defined as the alignment angle increases, until they disappear for perpendicular alignment. This behavior influences the shapes and the peaks of the electron-momentum distributions.

Al K-shell X-ray yields are measured with highly charged Arq+ ions (q = 12-16) bombarding against aluminium. The energy range of the Ar ions is from 180 to 380 keV. K-shell ionization cross sections of aluminium are also obtained from the yields data. The experimental data is explained within the framework of 2p pi-2p sigma s rotational coupling. When Ar ions with 2p-shell vacancies are incident on aluminium, the vacancies begin to reduce. Meanwhile, collisions against Al atoms lead to the production of new 2p-shell vacancies of Ar ions. These Ar 2p-shell vacancies will transfer to the 1s orbit of an Al atom via 2p pi-2p sigma s rotational coupling leading to the emission of a K-shell X-ray of aluminiun. A model is constructed based on the base of the above physical scenario. The calculation results of the model are in agreement with the experimental results.

Low energy antiprotons have been used previously to give benchmark data for theories of atomic collisions. Here we present measurements of the cross section for single, nondissociative ionization of molecular hydrogen for impact of antiprotons with kinetic energies in the range 2-11 keV, i.e., in the velocity interval of 0.3-0.65 a.u. We find a cross section which is proportional to the projectile velocity, which is quite unlike the behavior of corresponding atomic cross sections, and which has never previously been observed experimentally.

The electronic redistribution of an ion or atom induced by a sudden recoil of the nucleus occurring during the emission or capture of a neutral particle is theoretically investigated. For one-electron systems, analytical expressions are derived for the electronic transition probabilities to bound and continuum states. The quality of a B-spline basis set approach is evaluated from a detailed comparison with the analytical results. This numerical approach is then used Io study the dynamics of two-electron systems (neutral He and Ne ) using correlated wavefunctions for both the target and daughter ions. The total transition probabilities to discrete states, autoionizing states and direct single- and double-ionization probabilities are calculated from the pseudospectra. Sum rules for transition probabilities involving an initial bound state and a complete final series are discussed.

We use R-matrix theory with time dependence (RMT) to investigate multiphoton ionization of ground-state atomic carbon with initial orbital magnetic quantum number M_L=0 and M_L=1 at a laser wavelength of 390 nm and peak intensity of 10(14) W/cm(2). Significant differences in ionization yield and ejected-electron momentum distribution are observed between the two values for M_L. We use our theoretical results to model how the spin-orbit interaction affects electron emission along the laser polarization axis. Under the assumption that an initial C atom is prepared at zero time delay with M_L=0, the dynamics with respect to time delay of an ionizing probe pulse modeled by using RMT theory is found to be in good agreement with available experimental data.

We have examined the applicability of the 'nested' collision induced dissociation/post-source decay (CID/PSD) method to the sequencing of novel peptides from solitary wasps which have neurotoxic venom for paralyzing other insects. The CID/PSD spectrum of a ladder peptide derived from an exopeptidase digest was compared with that of the intact peptide. The mass peaks observed only in the CID/PSD spectrum of a ladder peptide were extracted as C-terminal fragment ions. Assignment of C-terminal fragment ions enabled calculation of N-terminal fragment masses, leading to differentiation between N-terminal fragment ions and internal fragment ions. This methodology allowed rapid and sensitive identification by removing ambiguity in the assignment of the fragment ions, and proved useful for sequencing unknown peptides, in particular those available as natural products with a limited supply. This purpose of this project was to investigate the collision-induced dissociation of dipeptides in negative ion electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry, with a focus on the mechanism of the production of imidazole-type fragments not previously reported from the fragmentation of the dipeptides being studied. The majority of the dipeptides studied were alanine N-terminal or serine C-terminal dipeptides. All dipeptides were dissolved in 50:50 methanol:water, 3 mM ammonium formate. Collision-induced dissociation in the collision cell of a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer was used to fragment [M-H]- precursor ions. Accurate mass measurements confirmed the molecular formula of the imidazole-type fragments. Further MS/MS studies were performed to provide information about the fragmentation mechanism for the formation of the imidazole-type fragments. The m/z values of intermediate ions in the formation of the imidazole-type fragments were confirmed through second-generation product ion scans and precursor ion scans. More sophisticated instrumentation will be required to further probe the structure of the intermediate ions.
