In this study, effects of concentrations of Cu(II), Zn(II) and Sn(II) ions in the electrolytic bath solution on the properties of electrochemically deposited CuZnSn (CZT) films were investigated. Study of the composition of a CZT film has shown that the metallic content (relative atomic ratio) in the film increased linearly with increase in the metal ion concentration. It is the first time that the relationship of the compositions of the alloy phases in the co-electrodeposited CZT film with the concentration of metal ions has been revealed. The results have confirmed that the formation and content of Cu6Sn5 and Cu5Zn8 alloy phases in the film were directly controlled by the concentration of Cu(II). SEM measurements have shown that Sn(II) has significant impact on film morphology, which became more porous as a result of the larger nucleation size of tin. The changes in the surface properties of the films was also confirmed by chronoamperometry characteristic (i–t) deposition curves. By optimization of metal ion concentrations in the electrolyte solution, a copper-poor and zinc-rich kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) film was synthesized by the sulfurization of the deposited CZT film. The solar cell with the CZTS film showed an energy conversion efficiency of 2.15% under the illumination intensity of 100 mW cm 2.

The spectral properties in different concentration of Yb ions (0.5-5 mol%)-doped silica glasses are explored in this paper. The glasses are prepared by traditional melting method. The absorption spectra and the fluorescent lifetime (tau(f)) are measured at room temperature and low temperature (18 K). The stimulated cross-section (sigma(emi)) and potential laser properties (beta(min), I-sat, I-min) are calculated based on the absorption spectra. The absorption cross-section (sigma(abs)) are in the range 1.08 x 10(-20) - 1.18 x 10(-20) cm(2) in different glasses, the fluorescence lifetime (tau(f)) change from 1.9 to 1.2 ms with the increase of Yb3+ concentration. The potential laser properties indicate that lead silica glass is a good host for highly Yb ion doping glass. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Dialysis was performed to examine some of the properties of the soluble phase of calcium (Ca) fortified soymilk at high temperatures. Dialysates were obtained while heating soymilk at temperatures of 80 and 100 °C for 1 h and 121 °C for 15 min. It was found that the pH, total Ca, and ionic Ca of dialysates obtained at high temperature were all lower than in their corresponding nonheated Ca-fortified soymilk. Increasing temperature from 80 to 100 °C hardly affected Ca ion concentration ([Ca2+]) of dialysate obtained from Ca chloride-fortified soymilk, but it increased [Ca2+] in dialysates of Ca gluconate-fortified soymilk and Ca lactate-fortified soymilk fortified with 5 to 6 mM Ca. Dialysates obtained at 100 °C had lower pH than dialysate prepared at 80 °C. Higher Ca additions to soymilk caused a significant (P≤ 0.05) reduction in pH and an increase in [Ca2+] of these dialysates. When soymilk was dialyzed at 121 °C, pH, total Ca, and ionic Ca were further reduced. Freezing point depression (FPD) of dialysates increased as temperature increased but were lower than corresponding soymilk samples. This approach provides a means of estimating pH and ionic Ca in soymilks at high temperatures, in order to better understand their combined role on soymilk coagulation.
Effect of ion concentration of ionomer in electron injection layer of polymer light-emitting devices
Resumo:
Polymer light-emitting devices (PLEDs) with poly(2-methoxy-5-hexyloxy)-p-phenylenevinylene (OC1OC6-PPV) as the emissive layer were studied with an electron injection layer of ionomers consisting of copolymers of styrene and methylmethacrylate (PS/PMMA) with 3, 6 and 8 mol% degree of sulfonation. The ionomers were able to form very thin films over the emissive layer, with less than 30 nm. Additionally, the presence of ion pairs of ionomer suppresses the tendency toward dewetting of the thin film of ionomer (similar to 10 nm) which can cause malfunction of the device. The effect of the ionomers was investigated as a function of the ion content. The devices performance, characterized by their current density and luminance intensity versus voltage, showed a remarkable increase with the ionomer layer up to 6 mol% of ionic groups, decreasing after that for the 8 mol% ionomer device. The study of the impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range from 0.1 to 10(6) Hz showed that the injection phenomena dominate over the transport in the electroluminescent polymer bulk. Products from the spontaneous reaction of a long-chain arenediazonium salt, 2,6-dimethyl-4-hexadecylbenzenediazonium tetrafluoroborate(16-ArN2BF4), in aqueous micellar solutions of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)? are used to estimate the local concentration of chloride and bromide ions at the micellar surface. The arenediazonium ion, 16-ArN2+, which is totally bound to the SDS micelle, reacts by rate-determining loss of N-2 to give an aryl cation that traps available nucleophiles, i,e., H2O, Cl-, and Br-, to give stable phenol, 16-ArOH, and halobenzene products, 16-ArCl and 16-ArBr, respectively. Product yields, determined by HPLC, are related to local concentrations using calibration curves obtained from independent standards. The local concentrations determined by this method are consistent with co-ion concentrations calculated, using a cell model, by numerical integration of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) taking into account salt-induced micellar growth. The salt dependence of the intel facial concentrations of Cl- and Br- are identical. indicating no specific interactions in the interfacial co-ion compartment. PBE calculations predict that, in micellar SDS, increasing the concentration of a particular halide salt (NaX) at constant concentration of another halide (NaY) should result in an increase in the local concentrations of both co-ions. Using this chemical-trapping method, this prediction was demonstrated experimentally.
