Tutkielman tavoitteena oli kuvata ja selittää oopperavierailuprosessia. Tarkoituksena oli lisäksi selvittää miten prosessia johdetaan, miten sitä pitäisi prosessissa keskeisesti toimivien toimijoiden mielestä johtaa ja minkälaisissa tilanteissa johtamista tarvitaan. Tutkielman kohteena oli Hedelandiin, Tanskaan tehty oopperavierailu. Tutkielma toteutettiin teoreettis-empiirisesti. Tutkimusmenetelmänä on käytetty laadullista toimintatutkimusta, jonka avulla on kuvattu ja analysoitu oopperavierailuprosessia ja sen johtamista. Empiiristä aineistoa on täydennetty haastattelemalla prosessin keskeisiä toimijoita. Tutkielma osoitti, että oopperavierailuprosessin onnistumisen kannalta tärkeitä tekijöitä löytyy sekä prosessista itsestään, että sen johtamisesta. Huolellinen ennakkosuunnittelu, prosessin rajapintojen tunnistaminen ja hyvä tiedonvälitys ovat kriittisiä tekijöitä prosessin onnistumisen kannalta. Prosessissa olevan osaamisen ja tiedon yhdistämistä sekä johtamista tarvitaan oopperavierailuprosessille ominaisessa luovassa kaaoksessa.

Outiller de façon satisfaisante la gestion des connaissances de consultants dans un secteur d’activité en constante évolution est une tâche ardue, pour laquelle il n’existe aucune solution applicable à tous types de milieux. Toutefois, notre expérience de plus de 25 ans en consultation nous amène à croire que, si l’on se restreint à des PME d’au plus 200 consultants dotées d’une culture d’entreprise favorable, il est faisable d’en arriver à une solution informatique réduisant significativement la problématique de gestion des connaissances. Cette étude vise à présenter la conception d’une telle solution. Ses principales caractéristiques sont : utilisation d’une taxonomie pour classifier et décrire uniformément les expertises et leurs usages; prise en compte systématique des caractéristiques des consultants; imbrication avec la gestion des demandes, des affectations, du recrutement et de la rétention; gestion décentralisée et participative; notifications de possibilités d’enrichissements et d’usages des expertises. Cette conception est basée sur des critères de qualité établis à partir d’une description du type d’organisation visé et d’hypothèses sur leur fonctionnement et leurs besoins. Ces hypothèses s’appuient sur une revue de littérature et sur plus de 25 années d’expérience dans le milieu. Il s’agit donc d’une recherche de type « design science », Hevner (2007) et March et Storey (2008), où les hypothèses de nature heuristique (basées sur l’expérience) complètent les connaissances empiriquement établies recensées dans la revue de littérature. La suite naturelle de notre travail serait d’implanter différentes parties de la solution, pour vérifier jusqu’à quel point celle-ci permet bien de réduire la problématique.

Objectives: To develop a decision support system (DSS), myGRaCE, that integrates service user (SU) and practitioner expertise about mental health and associated risks of suicide, self-harm, harm to others, self-neglect, and vulnerability. The intention is to help SUs assess and manage their own mental health collaboratively with practitioners. Methods: An iterative process involving interviews, focus groups, and agile software development with 115 SUs, to elicit and implement myGRaCE requirements. Results: Findings highlight shared understanding of mental health risk between SUs and practitioners that can be integrated within a single model. However, important differences were revealed in SUs' preferred process of assessing risks and safety, which are reflected in the distinctive interface, navigation, tool functionality and language developed for myGRaCE. A challenge was how to provide flexible access without overwhelming and confusing users. Conclusion: The methods show that practitioner expertise can be reformulated in a format that simultaneously captures SU expertise, to provide a tool highly valued by SUs. A stepped process adds necessary structure to the assessment, each step with its own feedback and guidance. Practice Implications: The GRiST web-based DSS (www.egrist.org) links and integrates myGRaCE self-assessments with GRiST practitioner assessments for supporting collaborative and self-managed healthcare.

How does knowledge management (KM) by a government agency responsible for environmental impact assessment (EIA) potentially contribute to better environmental assessment and management practice? Staff members at government agencies in charge of the EIA process are knowledge workers who perform judgement-oriented tasks highly reliant on individual expertise, but also grounded on the agency`s knowledge accumulated over the years. Part of an agency`s knowledge can be codified and stored in an organizational memory, but is subject to decay or loss if not properly managed. The EIA agency operating in Western Australia was used as a case study. Its KM initiatives were reviewed, knowledge repositories were identified and staff surveyed to gauge the utilisation and effectiveness of such repositories in enabling them to perform EIA tasks. Key elements of KM are the preparation of substantive guidance and spatial information management. It was found that treatment of cumulative impacts on the environment is very limited and information derived from project follow-up is not properly captured and stored, thus not used to create new knowledge and to improve practice and effectiveness. Other opportunities for improving organizational learning include the use of after-action reviews. The learning about knowledge management in EIA practice gained from Western Australian experience should be of value to agencies worldwide seeking to understand where best to direct their resources for their own knowledge repositories and environmental management practice. Although there are international guidelines orienting physicians on how to manage patients with acromegaly, such guidelines should be adapted for use in distinct regions of the world. A panel of neuroendocrinologists convened in Mexico City in August of 2007 to discuss specific considerations in Latin America. Of major discussion was the laboratory evaluation of acromegaly, which requires the use of appropriate tests and the adoption of local institutional standards. As a general rule to ensure diagnosis, the patient`s GH level during an oral glucose tolerance test and IGF-1 level should be evaluated. Furthermore, to guide treatment decisions, both GH and IGF-1 assessments are required. The treatment of patients with acromegaly in Latin America is influenced by local issues of cost, availability and expertise of pituitary neurosurgeons, which should dictate therapeutic choices. Such treatment has undergone profound changes because of the introduction of effective medical interventions that may be used after surgical debulking or as first-line medical therapy in selected cases. Surgical resection remains the mainstay of therapy for small pituitary adenomas (microadenomas), potentially resectable macroadenomas and invasive adenomas causing visual defects. Radiotherapy may be indicated in selected cases when no disease control is achieved despite optimal surgical debulking and medical therapy, when there is no access to somatostatin analogues, or when local issues of cost preclude other therapies. Since not all the diagnostic tools and treatment options are available in all Latin American countries, physicians need to adapt their clinical management decisions to the available local resources and therapeutic options.

The financial and personal burden of chronic cardiac disease is high. Costs are likely to increase over the next few decades. Promising applications of telehealth have appeared in the diagnosis and management of cardiac disease and there are indications that telehealth services can improve the management of chronic cardiac disease as well as extend services to remote and rural populations. Telehealth has been applied to the capture of symptoms of cardiac disease with electrocardiography and echocardiography, to the management and rehabilitation of recently discharged patients, and in peer-to-peer consultation where remote expertise can facilitate diagnosis. Telehealth promises cost reductions in service delivery, although there is a need for properly controlled cost-effectiveness trials to underpin telehealth with a firm evidence base.

This paper explores the management structure of the team-based organization. First it provides a theoretical model of structures and processes of work teams. The structure determines the team’s responsibilities in terms of authority and expertise about specific regulation tasks. The responsiveness of teams to these responsibilities are the processes of teamwork, in terms of three dimensions, indicating to what extent teams indeed use the space provided to them. The research question that this paper addresses is to what extent the position of responsibilities in the team-based organization affect team responsiveness. This is done by two hypotheses. First, the effect of the so-called proximity of regulation tasks is tested. It is expected that the responsibility for tasks positioned higher in the organization (i.e. further from the team) generally has a negative effect on team responsiveness, whereas tasks positioned lower in the organization (i.e. closer to the team) will have a positive effect on the way in which teams respond. Second, the relationship between the number of tasks for which the team is responsible with team responsiveness is tested. Theory suggests that teams being responsible for a larger number of tasks perform better, i.e. show higher responsiveness. These hypotheses are tested by a study of 109 production teams in the automotive industry. The results show that, as the theory predicts, increasing numbers of responsibilities have positive effects on team responsiveness. However, the delegation of expertise to teams seems to be the most important predictor of responsiveness. Also, not all regulation tasks show to have effects on team responsiveness. Most tasks do not show to have any significant effect at all. A number of tasks affects team responsiveness positively, when their responsibility is positioned lower in the organization, but also a number of tasks affects team responsiveness positively when located higher in the organization, i.e. further from the teams in the production. The results indicate that more attention can be paid to the distribution of responsibilities, in particular expertise, to teams. Indeed delegating more expertise improve team responsiveness, however some tasks might be located better at higher organizational levels, indicating that there are limitations to what responsibilities teams can handle.

The vast network of hedges in Ireland provide habitats of great importance to the wildlife of the country, yet surprisingly enough, only very limited survey work has been carried out on our hedgerows in the past. Now with the implementation of the new Rural Environmental Protection Scheme, farmers will be paid to manage their hedgerows in such a way as to make them into increasingly attractive wildlife habitats. However, hedgerow management expertise seems to be somewhat lacking in Ireland and we must draw upon the knowledge of our neighbours in the E.U. where quite an amount of research has been carried out on this subject. The aim of this study is to present the relevant aspects of the research for the benefit of the people who will be involved in the administration of the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme and to anyone else involved in hedgerow management.

Cet article traite de la façon dont les professionnels du marketing des articles de sport procèdent pour optimiser l'influence du lieu de vente sur les comportements d'achat. Leurs expertises reposent sur une combinaison de données et d'expériences qui peut être rapprochée des démarches sociologiques. Leurs analyses des situations d'achat nous permettent de comprendre comment ils peuvent agir sur les comportements à travers les points de vente, en tentant de guider la perception des produits par le consommateur. Elles nous aident plus globalement à mieux appréhender les décisions des consommateurs. Abstract This paper focuses on how marketers of sporting goods proceed to optimize the influence of the store on purchasing behaviour. Their expertise is based on a combination of data and experiences that parallels the sociological methods. Their analysis of purchasing situations aloud to understand how they can influence behaviours through retailing places, while trying to guide consumers' perception of the products. More broadly, they contribute to a better understanding of consumer's decisions. Keywords: sports, retail, store, marketing, sociology.

The widespread use of abdominal imaging technologies has led to an increase in the incidental finding of liver tumors. Most of these lesions are asymptomatic and will not require any treatment. With the use of contrast-enhanced radiological studies, most of the tumors can be reliably diagnosed by non-invasive means. In case of diagnostic uncertainty, patients should not undergo percutaneous biopsy but rather complete resection of the lesion for an unequivocal diagnosis. Such pathologies must be taken charge of in centers with expertise by interdisciplinary teams.
