Ympäristöjärjestelmän toteuttamisen edellytykset Lappeenrannan teknillisellä yliopistolla

Lappeenrannan teknilliselle yliopistolle tehtävässä ympäristösuunnitelmassa tavoitteena on selvittää Senaatti-kiinteistöjen ympäristöjärjestelmän tavoitteiden toteutettavuus yliopistolla, löytää yliopiston merkittävimmät ympäristövaikutukset sekä asettaa ympäristöasioiden hoidolle päämääriä ja tavoitteita.Diplomityön on tarkoitus toimia jatkossa tukimateriaalina ympäristöasioiden hoidon kehittämiselle. Teoriaosassa on esitetty ympäristöjärjestelmän rakentaminen ja tavoitteet sekä käyty läpi ympäristösuunnitelman toteuttamista. Tutkimusosassa laaditaan Senaatti-kiinteistön ympäristöjärjestelmän toteuttamisen esittelyn jälkeen yliopiston ympäristösuunnitelma. Yliopiston tämänhetkiset ympäristökäytännöt kartoitetaan sekä toimintaa koskevat ympäristönäkökohdat tunnistetaan ja arvotetaan. Merkittävien ympäristönäkökohtien valitsemisen jälkeen yliopistolle on laadittu ehdotukset hankintoja, jätehuoltoa ja sähkön kulutusta koskevista ympäristöohjelmista. Ympäristöohjelmissa ehdotetaan päämääriä, tavoitteita sekä käytännön ohjeita ja seurantaa toimintojen kehittämistä varten.

Índice de análise ambiental simplificado na avaliação de impactos nos recursos hídricos da bacia hidrográfica do Ribeirão do Meio, Leme, São Paulo, Brasil

This study evaluated environmental impacts at Meio Creek watershed, Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil. A simplified environmental analysis index was applied correlating land use and occupation (vegetation elimination or modification, wildlife, color, smell, grease, oils, foams, larvae and red worms) with water quality parameters (conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature). The simplified environmental analysis index showed that 27.8% visited places had a high or worrying environmental impact and 5.6% had a really high impact. As to the results of physical and chemical parameters, pH and conductivity values showed the conditions and standards that water Class 2 and 3 should have. These parameters were not the same for dissolved oxygen levels at most of the analyzed points. Despite the current environmental legislation at federal, state and municipal levels, Leme city does not have an effective environmental plan to control and protect springs and Meio Creek watershed and its tributaries.

Iowa Wetland Management District: Environmental Assessment and Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan

This Environmental Assessment documents the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for developing a Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the Iowa Wetland Management District (WMD, district). In general, scoping reveals issues that drive alternative ways of managing the district. Implementation of each of those alternative management styles (including the No Action Alternative) may have different effects on the physical, biological, and socio-economic environment. Analysis of these effects reveals the “preferred” alternative, which constitutes the CCP. The CCP includes goals, objectives, and strategies for the district to guide overall management for the next 15 years. The Iowa WMD consists of scattered tracts of habitat (both wetland and upland grassland) known as Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs). As of 2011, there are 75 WPAs in 18 counties in north-central Iowa totaling 24,712 acres in fee title primarily managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Even though district acquisition has only occurred in 18 counties to date, a larger 35-county boundary is approved. This boundary follows the historic range of the poorly drained Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) in Iowa, an area known for its waterfowl production. The district also includes 575 WPA acres and approximately 434 Farm Service Agency acres in conservation easements on private land. This plan was prepared with the intent that the strong partnership with the Iowa DNR will continue over the next 15 years.

Promoting ethical and environmental awareness in vulnerable communities: a research action plan

Urban populations that live in the outskirts of major Latin American cities usually face conditions of vulnerability attached to complex environmental issues, such as the lack of sewerage, floods, pollution and soil and water contamination. This article reports an intervention research programme in Sao Paulo, Brazil that combines a moral education approach with sustainability awareness in vulnerable communities. The main conceptual foundations of the project, designed to empower the community and promote ethical and environmental awareness are: strengthening the ties between the school and the surrounding community in order to construct 'moral atmosphere'; adoption of Problem- and Project-based Learning and the Design Thinking approach to reach the proposed goals.

Guide to Writing a Programmatic Resource Management Plan/ Environmental Impact Statement for the Bureau of Land Management

This guide is written for Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) employees assigned to the Public Lands team who may have some National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) knowledge, possibly have experience with writing Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), and with little or no experience writing programmatic EIS documents. The guide contains information encompassing the preparation of a complete Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (RMP/EIS) for the Bureau of Land Management. The RMP/EIS is a programmatic NEPA document which has many differences and nuances distinct from a typical project type EIS. This guide provides the information necessary for a BAH Public Lands team member to understand the project process and the RMP/EIS document to successfully maneuver through the entire project from beginning to end.
