This paper investigates some properties of cyclic fuzzy maps in metric spaces. The convergence of distances as well as that of sequences being generated as iterates defined by a class of contractive cyclic fuzzy mapping to fuzzy best proximity points of (non-necessarily intersecting adjacent subsets) of the cyclic disposal is studied. An extension is given for the case when the images of the points of a class of contractive cyclic fuzzy mappings restricted to a particular subset of the cyclic disposal are allowed to lie either in the same subset or in its next adjacent one.

Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets (AIFS) and interval valued fuzzy sets (IVFS) are two generalizations of a fuzzy set, which are equivalent mathematically although different semantically. We analyze the median aggregation operator for AIFS and IVFS. Different mathematical theories have lead to different definitions of the median operator. We look at the median from various perspectives: as an instance of the intuitionistic ordered weighted averaging operator, as a Fermat point in a plane, as a minimizer of input disagreement, and as an operation on distributive lattices. We underline several connections between these approaches and summarize essential properties of the median in different representations.

The analysis of spatial relations among objects in an image is an important vision problem that involves both shape analysis and structural pattern recognition. In this paper, we propose a new approach to characterize the spatial relation along, an important feature of spatial configurations in space that has been overlooked in the literature up to now. We propose a mathematical definition of the degree to which an object A is along an object B, based on the region between A and B and a degree of elongatedness of this region. In order to better fit the perceptual meaning of the relation, distance information is included as well. In order to cover a more wide range of potential applications, both the crisp and fuzzy cases are considered. In the crisp case, the objects are represented in terms of 2D regions or ID contours, and the definition of the alongness between them is derived from a visibility notion and from the region between the objects. However, the computational complexity of this approach leads us to the proposition of a new model to calculate the between region using the convex hull of the contours. On the fuzzy side, the region-based approach is extended. Experimental results obtained using synthetic shapes and brain structures in medical imaging corroborate the proposed model and the derived measures of alongness, thus showing that they agree with the common sense. The so called “Plural Uncertainty Model” is considered, in which statistical, maxmin, interval and Fuzzy model of uncertainty are embedded. For the last case external and internal contradictions of the theory are investigated and the modified definition of the Fuzzy Sets is proposed to overcome the troubles of the classical variant of Fuzzy Subsets by L. Zadeh. The general variants of logit- and probit- regression are the model of the modified Fuzzy Sets. It is possible to say about observations within the modification of the theory. The conception of the “situation” is proposed within modified Fuzzy Theory and the classifying problem is considered. The algorithm of the classification for the situation is proposed being the analogue of the statistical MLM(maximum likelihood method). The example related possible observing the distribution from the collection of distribution is considered.

In this work we introduce a new construction method of Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets (A-IFSs) from fuzzy sets. We use A-IFSs in image processing. We propose a new image magnification algorithm using A-IFSs. This algorithm is characterized by its simplicity and its efficiency.

In this work we present a simple magnification algorithm for color images. It uses Interval-Valued Fuzzy Sets in such a way that every pixel has an interval membership constructed from its original intensity and its neighbourhood's one. Based on that interval membership, a block is created for each pixel, so this is a block expansion method.

In this paper, a new Fuzzy Set (FS) ranking method (for type-1 and interval type-2 FSs), which is based on the Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) of evidence with fuzzy targets, is investigated. Fuzzy targets are adopted to reflect human viewpoints on fuzzy ranking. Two important measures in DST, i.e., the belief and plausibility measures, are used to rank FSs. The proposed approach is evaluated with several benchmark examples. The use of the belief and plausibility measures in fuzzy ranking are discussed and compared. We further analyze the capability of the proposed approach in fulfilling six reasonable fuzzy ordering properties as discussed in [9]-[11].

We present a new approach for defining similarity measures for Atanassov's intuitionistic fuzzy sets (AIFS), in which a similarity measure has two components indicating the similarity and hesitancy aspects. We justify that there are at least two facets of uncertainty of an AIFS, one of which is related to fuzziness while other is related to lack of knowledge or non-specificity. We propose a set of axioms and build families of similarity measures that avoid counterintuitive examples that are used to justify one similarity measure over another. We also investigate a relation to entropies of AIFS, and outline possible application of our method in decision making and image segmentation. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
