The paper presents the radiometric parameters determined by the medical physicist during routine radiotherapy planning service in cases of breast cancer . The contours of the breast volume in patients undergoing radiation breast tumors at the Hospital das Clinicas, Faculty of Medicine , UNESP, Botucatu ( HCFMB ) during the year 2012 were analyzed . In order to analyze the influence of physical and radiometric parameters for the determination of the dose distribution of irradiated breast volume , four measurements of isodose curves were prepared in four different heights breast , and compared with the isodose curves plotted computationally . In the routine of planning , the medical physicist must determine the isodose curve that gives the best dose distribution homogeneity in the irradiated volume . The choice of the treatment plan can be done by dedicated computer systems , which require significantly costly investments available services having better financial support . In the Service of Medical Physics , Department of Radiotherapy , HC FMB , we use a two-dimensional software for determination of isodose curves , however , this software is out of date and frequently becomes inoperable due to the lack of maintenance and it is a closed system without feasibility of interference from computer professionals . This fact requires manual preparation of isodose curves , which are subject to uncertainties due to the subjectivity in the clinical interpretation of medical radiation oncologist and medical physicist responsible for planning , plus dispendiar significant calculation time . The choice of the optimal isodose curve depends on the energy of the radiation beam , the geometry and dimensions of the irradiated area . In this paper we use recent census data supplemented with case study evidence to investigate the extent to which professional computing occupations in Australia are constructed around the notion of an ‘ideal’ worker. Census data are used to compare computer professionals with other selected professional occupational groups, illustrating different models of accommodating (or not accommodating) workers who do not fit the ideal model. The computer professionals group is shown to be distinctive in combining low but consistent levels of female representation across age groups, average rates of parenthood and minimal provisions for working-time flexibility. One strategy employed by women in this environment is selection of relatively routine technical roles over more time intensive consultancy based work.

BACKGROUND: Clinical practice does not always reflect best practice and evidence, partly because of unconscious acts of omission, information overload, or inaccessible information. Reminders may help clinicians overcome these problems by prompting the doctor to recall information that they already know or would be expected to know and by providing information or guidance in a more accessible and relevant format, at a particularly appropriate time. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effects of reminders automatically generated through a computerized system and delivered on paper to healthcare professionals on processes of care (related to healthcare professionals' practice) and outcomes of care (related to patients' health condition). SEARCH METHODS: For this update the EPOC Trials Search Co-ordinator searched the following databases between June 11-19, 2012: The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and Cochrane Library (Economics, Methods, and Health Technology Assessment sections), Issue 6, 2012; MEDLINE, OVID (1946- ), Daily Update, and In-process; EMBASE, Ovid (1947- ); CINAHL, EbscoHost (1980- ); EPOC Specialised Register, Reference Manager, and INSPEC, Engineering Village. The authors reviewed reference lists of related reviews and studies.  SELECTION CRITERIA: We included individual or cluster-randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized controlled trials (NRCTs) that evaluated the impact of computer-generated reminders delivered on paper to healthcare professionals on processes and/or outcomes of care. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Review authors working in pairs independently screened studies for eligibility and abstracted data. We contacted authors to obtain important missing information for studies that were published within the last 10 years. For each study, we extracted the primary outcome when it was defined or calculated the median effect size across all reported outcomes. We then calculated the median absolute improvement and interquartile range (IQR) in process adherence across included studies using the primary outcome or median outcome as representative outcome. MAIN RESULTS: In the 32 included studies, computer-generated reminders delivered on paper to healthcare professionals achieved moderate improvement in professional practices, with a median improvement of processes of care of 7.0% (IQR: 3.9% to 16.4%). Implementing reminders alone improved care by 11.2% (IQR 6.5% to 19.6%) compared with usual care, while implementing reminders in addition to another intervention improved care by 4.0% only (IQR 3.0% to 6.0%) compared with the other intervention. The quality of evidence for these comparisons was rated as moderate according to the GRADE approach. Two reminder features were associated with larger effect sizes: providing space on the reminder for provider to enter a response (median 13.7% versus 4.3% for no response, P value = 0.01) and providing an explanation of the content or advice on the reminder (median 12.0% versus 4.2% for no explanation, P value = 0.02). Median improvement in processes of care also differed according to the behaviour the reminder targeted: for instance, reminders to vaccinate improved processes of care by 13.1% (IQR 12.2% to 20.7%) compared with other targeted behaviours. In the only study that had sufficient power to detect a clinically significant effect on outcomes of care, reminders were not associated with significant improvements. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: There is moderate quality evidence that computer-generated reminders delivered on paper to healthcare professionals achieve moderate improvement in process of care. Two characteristics emerged as significant predictors of improvement: providing space on the reminder for a response from the clinician and providing an explanation of the reminder's content or advice. The heterogeneity of the reminder interventions included in this review also suggests that reminders can improve care in various settings under various conditions.

The evidence suggests that emotional intelligence and personality traits are important qualities that workers need in order to successfully exercise a profession. This article assumes that the main purpose of universities is to promote employment by providing an education that facilitates the acquisition of abilities, skills, competencies and values. In this study, the emotional intelligence and personality profiles of two groups of Spanish students studying degrees in two different academic disciplines – computer engineering and teacher training – were analysed and compared. In addition, the skills forming part of the emotional intelligence and personality traits required by professionals (computer engineers and teachers) in their work were studied, and the profiles obtained for the students were compared with those identified by the professionals in each field. Results revealed significant differences between the profiles of the two groups of students, with the teacher training students scoring higher on interpersonal skills; differences were also found between professionals and students for most competencies, with professionals in both fields demanding more competencies that those evidenced by graduates. The implications of these results for the incorporation of generic social, emotional and personal competencies into the university curriculum are discussed.

The Test of Mouse Proficiency (TOMP) was developed to assist occupational therapists and education professionals assess computer mouse competency skills in children from preschool to upper primary (elementary) school age. The preliminary reliability and validity of TOMP are reported in this paper. Methods used to examine the internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and criterion- and construct-related validity of the test are elaborated. In the continuing process of test refinement, these preliminary studies support to varying degrees the reliability and validity of TOMP. Recommendations for further validation of the assessment are discussed along with indications for potential clinical application.

Introducció: La preocupació per la qualitat assistencial, i concretament per la qualitat de les cures infermeres, la satisfacció percebuda pel pacient com element fonamental com a indicador de la qualitat dels serveis sanitaris i clau en la millora de la qualitat assistencial, i el fet que a l’estat espanyol hi ha pocs estudis de satisfacció específics de la població anciana hospitalitzada, ens va portar a plantejar un estudi amb l’objectiu de valorar el grau de satisfacció de les persones grans hospitalitzades en relació a l’atenció rebuda dels professionals d’infermeria. Metodologia: S’ha realitzat un estudi descriptiu i transversal en un col.lectiu de 42 persones hospitalitzades d’edat ≥ 60 anys. El grau de satisfacció es va determinar amb “La Monica Oberst Patient Satisfaction Scale 12” (LOPSS 12), versió reduïda en castellà. La personalització de les cures es va valorar amb un qüestionari que valora la relació infermera-usuari extret de l’Índex de Personalització de les Cures. L'anàlisi estadística es va dur a terme amb el programa informàtic SPSS® vs 21.0. Resultats: Es va evidenciar un elevat grau de satisfacció global amb les cures d’infermeria (8,8  1,5 / 10), però el nivell global de personalització d’aquestes cures no va ser molt satisfactori (3,4  2,1 / 7). Els homes van valorar millor a les infermeres respecte a que consideraven les seves opinions i preferències (p=0,03) i contestaven amb rapidesa les seves trucades (p=0,009). La personalització de les cures millorava conforme incrementava el grau de satisfacció global (r = 0,582; p = 0,000) i amb el temps d’hospitalització (r = 0,344; p = 0,026). Conclusions: El grau de satisfacció global respecte la satisfacció en l’atenció rebuda per part d’infermeria, va ser elevat però amb baix grau de personalització, mostrant major satisfacció els homes respecte les dones. Conèixer l’opinió dels usuaris representa una oportunitat pels professionals de reflexionar sobre la pràctica clínica i ser crítics per avançar en el desenvolupament de la professió, identificant aspectes susceptibles de millora 5 amb la finalitat d’augmentar la qualitat de les cures que es presten, així com la qualitat de vida de les persones.

EDUMAT va sorgir d'una iniciativa personal, en el marc del Departament de Didàctica de les Ciències Experimentals i de les Matemàtiques de la Universitat de Barcelona, el mes de novembre de 1998. No es tracta d'una iniciativa pionera. Dues llistes modèliques van precedir EDUMAT: l'una a la Universitat de Barcelona, que funciona des del 1995, el Fòrum sobre la Docència Universitària, coordinat per la professora Begoña Gros, que va ser presentat a Temps d'Educació, nº 16. 1, en l'àmbit de l'educació matemàtica, també des del 1995, funciona un altre fòrum internacional de debat coordinat per Peter Gates, de la Universitat de Nottingham, a Anglaterra. I les llistes de distribució a Internet es compten per milers.
