Calendar Girls. By Tim Firth. Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Brisbane, April 10. AN adaptation of the 2003 film of the same name, Calendar Girls is a light piece of entertainment. Following the death of her husband John from leukaemia, Annie and her friend Chris convince the members of their local Yorkshire Women's Institute to pose for a nude calendar to raise funds to refurbish the local hospital's run-down relatives' room. This premise -- and the opportunities for comic engagement it entails -- drives the plot of Tim Firth's stage adaptation of Calendar Girls.

This is the second installment of a three-part project to publish a group of ten Ptolemaic papyri purchased by Yale’s Beinecke Library in 1998 (acquisition “1998b”), which came to the Beinecke as three hard wads that were apparently the stuffing from the stomach cavity of a mummified animal. This article publishes: (1) P.CtYBR inv. 5019, a fragment of line ends in iambic tetrameter catalectic meter from an unknown comedy; the format suggests that this is a further example of certain type of Ptolemaic writing exercise. (2) P.CtYBR inv. 5043, a fragmentary grammatical text of uncertain import.

This article explores the relationship between anthropology and identity through the process of travel writing and reading. Specifically, the article examines a range of travel writing about the British Caribbean colony Montserrat to read into the culture of the writer. These deconstructive ‘glimpses into the unmentionable’ reveal an implicit racism. The travel writing texts are also found to divide into two types of representation – the ‘subordinate exotic’ and the ‘comic exotic’.

Anti-Black racism continues to be a widespread problem, and as such deserves investigation and elimination. As Jackson (2006) says; “There is a hyperawareness…of the negative inscriptions associated with the Black masculine body as criminal, angry and incapacitated.” (2) To continue the study of the changing face of racism, the researcher must be well equipped with a contemporary methodology which is adaptable and exploratory. Due to the malleability of racism, research into its elimination must make inroads to areas that have heretofore been neglected and overlooked by traditional academic study. This project achieves a unique perspective by undertaking a theoretical exploration of racist stereotypes and motifs in the world of mass produced superhero comic books, a genre of comics which has neither yet been thoroughly investigated for the use of racist stereotypes nor been the focus of anti-racist scholarship.

El trabajo está realizado por un grupo de profesores de la provincias de Segovia y Ávila. Objetivos: Introducir a los alumnos en el mundo de la imagen haciendo uso de algo tan cercano para ellos como es el 'Comic'. Introducir al alumnno en el mundo de la imagen a través del vídeo explicativo y de los recursos del 'Comic'. Utilizar recursos tales como: onomatopeyas, clases de oraciones, construcción de historietas (planteamiento, nudo y desenlace),... Para conseguir objetivos del área de lenguaje, literatura e idioma moderno. Utilizar el 'Comic' como recurso para conseguir objetivos del área de Educación artística. La metodología consta de: -realización de un vídeo educativo sobre el lenguaje del 'Comic', dirigido a los alumnos de segundo y tercer ciclo de Educación primaria. En él se analizan lor recursos utilizados por este medio y los comunes con otros tipos de imágenes. Materiales generados: realización de una guía didáctica de actividades dirigida a los profesores.
