Dans ce volume collectif, des anthropologues, des historiens et des linguistes s'interrogent, à partir de leur point de vue respectif, sur la relation entre "observateur" et "observé" quand celle-ci est basée sur la collecte, la mise en forme et l'analyse d'un type particulier de documents : les histoires de vie, les biographies de terrain, et plus généralement toutes formes de témoignages, de comptes rendus et de récits se référant aux unes ou aux autres. Il s'agit de faire émerger des points de vue complémentaires sur les formes d'objectivation de l'observation et de représentation du processus de récolte des données, sur les figurations de la voix du narrateur et du sujet-agent, sur le métalangage et son efficacité dans la construction de la connaissance et du type de savoir qui en dérive

Avoiding crimes of obedience: A comparative study of the autobiographies of M. K. Gandhi, N. Mandela and M. L. King

This research aims to provide a contribution towards understanding how and why certain people can display disobedience behaviors, to overcome unjust situations, and withstand persecutions deployed by authority. The paper presents a hermeneutic content analysis of the autobiographical speeches and texts of Gandhi, M. L. King and Mandela. Our results show that parents' value orientation, experience of injustice during childhood and exploration of alternative viewpoints during adolescence play a crucial role in structuring prosocial disobedience. Findings show also that social responsibility and ingroup communication are important conditions for facing persecutions without dropping original goals.

Iowa and Some Iowans is a classed bibliography of materials by Iowans or about Iowa. It is in the same order in which the average school or public library or media center would shelve materials, that is, nonfiction in order using the Dewey Decimal System, and fiction in alphabetical order by author. Biographies and autobiographies are generally entered 920's. A few may be entered under the subject with which the biography is related. In the paper a list of autobiographies of linguists is made (Davis & O"Cain 1980,Koerner 1991 y 1998, López Alonso & Séré 1992, Swiggers 1997, Brown & Law 2002, Timotin & Colceriu 2012, Laborda, Romera & Fernández Planas 2014) to consider their cognitive, literary and textual aspects .The article applies the theory as an analytical model of the drama and of the constituents of the story by Jerome Bruner. The study confirms the suitability of the autobiography to tell the life story of the author and to describe the landscape of contemporary linguistics.

An examination of Simone de Beauvoir's theme of situated embodiment

Abstract This thesis is an examination of Simone de Beauvoir's theme of situated embodiment. The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate that the theme of situated embodiment was a concern of Beauvoir's since early childhood and that it was this interest which was the impetus for Beauvoir's later philosophical notion of authentic embodiment. Through the examination of Beauvoir's autobiographies it becomes evident that Beauvoir consistently demonstrates an early awareness that one's situation will be expressed through one's body. This idea is also present in Beauvoir's novels. In the novels it is shown that many of the characters are struggling within authentic embodiment. Beauvoir also fictionalizes many of her own experiences in the novels. These novels are used as concrete examples of Beauvoir's philosophy. Through Beauvoir's philosophical works it becomes evident that authentic embodiment will include the notions of freedom, ambiguity, and reciprocity. All are crucial when trying to live an authentic existence. Beauvoir's philosophy also focuses on marginalized groups who are in the position ofthe Other. One of the marginalized groups studied are women, and this thesis investigates Beauvoir's understanding of why woman is in the position of the Other. This thesis also addresses two feminist criticisms of Beauvoir's study on women. These criticisms are argued against in an effort to defend the notion ofauthentic situated embodiment as delineated in the first three chapters. Overall it is established that Beauvoir's early experiences allowed for her to form the philosophical idea of situated embodiment that lies at the core of her philosophy.
