The classification of Art painting images is a computer vision applications that isgrowing considerably. The goal of this technology, is to classify an art paintingimage automatically, in terms of artistic style, technique used, or its author. For thispurpose, the image is analyzed extracting some visual features. Many articlesrelated with these problems have been issued, but in general the proposed solutionsare focused in a very specific field. In particular, algorithms are tested using imagesat different resolutions, acquired under different illumination conditions. Thatmakes complicate the performance comparison of the different methods. In thiscontext, it will be very interesting to construct a public art image database, in orderto compare all the existing algorithms under the same conditions. This paperpresents a large art image database, with their corresponding labels according to thefollowing characteristics: title, author, style and technique. Furthermore, a tool thatmanages this database have been developed, and it can be used to extract differentvisual features for any selected image. This data can be exported to a file in CSVformat, allowing researchers to analyze the data with other tools. During the datacollection, the tool stores the elapsed time in the calculation. Thus, this tool alsoallows to compare the efficiency, in computation time, of different mathematicalprocedures for extracting image data.

In this paper we study some of the characteristics of the art painting image color semantics. We analyze the color features of differ- ent artists and art movements. The analysis includes exploration of hue, saturation and luminance. We also use quartile’s analysis to obtain the dis- tribution of the dispersion of defined groups of paintings and measure the degree of purity for these groups. A special software system “Art Paint- ing Image Color Semantics” (APICSS) for image analysis and retrieval was created. The obtained result can be used for automatic classification of art paintings in image retrieval systems, where the indexing is based on color characteristics.

Aprender debería ser un juego, un juego muy serio, es verdad, pero juego al fin y al cabo, en el que el conocimiento se adquiere a través del grado de satisfacción que se obtiene de la acción.

El punto de partida que Joan Miró estableció para realizar las dieciocho Pintures segons collage de 1933 nos sirven hoy para hacer una propuesta que permita pensar en algunas de las claves de la pintura contemporánea. Términos como la apropiación, la autoría o la subjetividad del artista se ponen en juego cuando se activa el dispositivo del collage como modelo. Aquí se plantea una actividad de aprendizaje que confronta el trabajo individual con el colectivo y que tiene como objetivo principal la reflexión sobre el lenguaje pictórico.

Este artículo propone una reflexión en torno a la investigación artística centrándose en los trabajos que se desarrollan en los talleres de creación. Pretende mostrar cómo la continuidad de estos trabajos puede vertebrar y configurar los estudios de máster, doctorado y, por consiguiente, la investigación en Bellas Artes. Se toma en consideración la figura del profesor-artista para analizar sus problemáticas y para valorar su tarea en los talleres y en la solución de las necesidades del estudiante. Para terminar, se plantean distintas vías en las que la elaboración de la obra de arte es reconocida como un modo de investigación de pleno derecho.

Quais seriam os elementos básicos de uma pintura? Podemos falar em articulações de unidades no campo visual definido por uma obra dessa natureza? E quais os repertórios e as regras combinatórias? O artigo propõe a discussão destes problemas a partir das rigorosas e oportunas colocações do importante teórico, crítico e historiador da arte, infelizmente quase desconhecido entre nós.

"This paper discusses the work of contemporary artist James Turrell as framed by the philosophy of the sublime. Focusing on the artist’s use of the medium of light, it addresses Turrell’s scientific approach to creating artworks and discusses his resolution of the problematic relationship between science and spirituality. This relationship is discussed through the examination of the artist’s use of total visual fields known as ganzfelden and other perceptual phenomena, such as those encountered while piloting aircraft"
