Um relato de vida, um caminho institucional: juventude, medicalização e sofrimentos sociais

Apresenta-se uma história de vida com o intuito de traçar uma análise das manifestações particulares de uma trajetória individual em diálogo com os elementos presentes na vida de jovens de grupos populares. Foca-se na discussão dos equipamentos sociais na produção de sentidos, lugares e sofrimentos em algumas vidas, ocasionando processos em que "doenças" e medicalização são geradas a partir de problemas sociais. Com base nos pressupostos da pesquisa etnográfica, acompanhou-se a trajetória de uma jovem, por quatro anos, em sua passagem por serviços sociais de atenção à infância e à juventude, assim como de saúde mental. Considera-se que as políticas sociais devem intervir com jovens sob uma compreensão ampliada dos problemas sociais, sendo que o campo da atenção em saúde mental, em conexão com a esfera social, deve cuidar das situações de sofrimento sem que haja a homogeneização das necessidades, traduzindo-se numa iatrogenia e na medicalização do social.

La Capoeira como una vía de integración social de jóvenes vulnerables

Esta tesis muestra una experiencia diferente y exitosa de inclusión a la sociedad mediante la práctica de Capoeira la cual se convirtió en una vía de integración social de jóvenes en condiciones de vulnerabilidad. Se trabajó con un grupo de jóvenes capoeiristas pertenecientes a dos barrios vulnerables de Bogotá: el barrio El Paraíso y Mirador Alto, localizados en la localidad 19 de Ciudad Bolívar con el fin de determinar las transformaciones que tuvieron con la práctica de Capoeira. Estos aspectos se analizaron mediante entrevistas, diario de campo y observación participativa que permitieron identificar las siguientes categorías: antes y después de la Capoeira, lazos débiles y fuertes, percepción y uso de la ciudad, capital social individual y colectivo. Se encontró que la Capoeira incide en la apropiación de diferentes escenarios de la ciudad, en la interacción con personas que tienen otros tipos de capitales, y en la relación con diferentes organismos del Estado y con ONG´s, lo cual influye en las expectativas de vida y en la forma en cómo ellos perciben la realidad.

On this paper, I propose a reflexion on the formation of a youth maroon, as a political subject , based on experience, personal expectations and social projects in the construction of a political identity in the community quilombola Capoeiras, which is located in the district of Macaíba (RN). I observed two social situations; the projects of the Pau-furado Youth and the Swingueira Quilombola , those kinds of dances that have as protagonists or as audience the youth people who lives in the community here mentioned, those people that legitimize and innovate in these traditions and roles they play and crucial positions in the construction of ethnic identities and generation within a political community. It seeks to understand the place of youth in this new context of political affirmation and identity. It is, therefore, to understand the diversity in their local youth from different social, cultural, political and economic

Assessment of youth-friendly health care: a systematic review of indicators drawn from young people's perspectives.

PURPOSE: To review the literature on young people's perspectives on health care with a view to defining domains and indicators of youth-friendly care. METHODS: Three bibliographic databases were searched to identify studies that purportedly measured young people's perspectives on health care. Each study was assessed to identify the constructs, domains, and indicators of adolescent-friendly health care. RESULTS: Twenty-two studies were identified: 15 used quantitative methods, six used qualitative methods and one used mixed methodology. Eight domains stood out as central to young people's positive experience of care. These were: accessibility of health care; staff attitude; communication; medical competency; guideline-driven care; age appropriate environments; youth involvement in health care; and health outcomes. Staff attitudes, which included notions of respect and friendliness, appeared universally applicable, whereas other domains, such as an appropriate environment including cleanliness, were more specific to particular contexts. CONCLUSION: These eight domains provide a practical framework for assessing how well services are engaging young people. Measures of youth-friendly health care should address universally applicable indicators of youth-friendly care and may benefit from additional questions that are specific to the local health setting.

Young people and youth policies in Spain in times of austerity: between juggling and the trapeze

The aim of this article is to present and discuss the situation regarding young people and youth policy in Spain via the parameters of the magic triangle linking policy, research and action: (1) the situation of young people in Spain today -some indicators are highlighted regarding the main challenges and opportunities for young people, with references to the so-called"Ni-Nis" (neither studying nor working)- and the movement of the"outraged" youth that occupied the streets of Spain"s major cities in May 2011; (2) the current approaches adopted by public youth policies in Spain and limitations and difficulties encountered by the government in attempting to meet the demands of young people; (3) social work with young people and professionals involved in youth policies. In the last section, we conclude with some open questions and proposals for the immediate future

Insights from youth workers regarding young people's engagement in out-of-school-time youth development programs

L’objectif de cette étude exploratoire était de mieux comprendre, du point de vue des animateurs/animatrices qui oeuvrent auprès des jeunes, le phénomène de l’engagement des jeunes dans les programmes parascolaires. Des entretiens qualitatifs ont été entrepris à cette fin avec six animateur(trices). Plusieurs obstacles à l’engagement ont été identifiés, la plupart étant extérieurs aux jeunes. Quelques actions et attitudes spécifiques des animateur(trices) ont été relevées comme importantes pour aider les jeunes à surmonter ces obstacles. De plus, la structure et le contenu du programme, ainsi que l’environnement de groupe, jouent des rôles primordiaux. Les dimensions soulevées par les animateur(trices) ont permis d’enrichir et rendre plus holistique un modèle d’engagement qui a été développé à partir d’une recension des écrits dans ce domaine. Finalement, les implications pour la formation des animateurs(trices) et pour la structure des programmes pour les jeunes ont été explorées.

Safeguarding inheritance and enhancing the resilience of orphaned young people living in child- and youth-headed households in Tanzania and Uganda

This paper explores the resilience of orphaned young people in safeguarding the physical assets (land and property) that they inherited from their parents and in sustaining their households without a co-resident adult relative. Drawing on the concept of resilience and the sustainable livelihoods framework, this paper analyses the findings of an exploratory study conducted with 15 orphaned young people heading households,18 of their siblings and 39 NGO workers and community members in Tanzania and Uganda. The research suggests that inherited land and property represent key determining factors in the formation and viability of child- and youth-headed households in both rural and urban areas. Despite experiences of stigma and marginalisation in the community, social networks were crucial in enabling young people to protect themselves and their property, in providing access to material and emotional resources and in enhancing their skills and capabilities to develop sustainable livelihoods. Support for child- and youth-headed households needs to recognise young people's agency and adopt a holistic approach to their lives that analyses the physical assets, material resources, human and social capital available to the household, as well as individual young people's wellbeing, outlook and aspirations. Alongside cash transfers and material support, youth-led collective mobilisation that is sustained over time may also help to build resilience and foster more supportive social environments that challenge property grabbing and the stigmatisation of child- and youth-headed households.
