Objective To analyze the characteristics of faculty work in nursing higher education. Method An exploratory qualitative study with a theoretical-methodological framework of dialectical and historical materialism. The faculty work process was adopted as the analytical category, grounded on conceptions of work and professionalism. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 24 faculty members from three higher education institutions in the city of São Paulo, classified according to the typology of institutional contexts. Results The faculty members at these higher education institutions are a heterogeneous group, under different working conditions. Intensification and precarious conditions of the faculty work is common to all three contexts, although there are important distinctions in the practices related to teaching, research and extension. Conclusion Faculty professionalization can be the starting point for analyzing and coping with such a distinct reality of faculty work and practice.

Many companies both in Sweden and other parts of the world are since the beginning of the 21st century faceing a lack of work force (1,2,3). The ability to recruit and retain skilled employees is seen as one of the most important questions for the survival and development of the companies (4,5). Labour shortage is seen as the biggest obstacle for expansion for small enterprises in Sweden (5). There is a need for workplaces to be attractive, but how can the attractiveness be increased? Researchers at Högskolan Dalarna have during almost a decennium conducted research concerning attractive work. Based on a modell of qualities that contributes to make a work attractive (6) has a method aiming for raised attractiveness been developed for SME:s. All employees participate by answering a questionnaire about the importance of different qualities and to what degree they are fulfilled. Further discussions at the workplace on what to preserve and what to develop make the base for an action plan.Important experiences:• Discuss and establish the aim of the method with management and employees. • The company must be prepared to follow up and realize the action plan.• Agree about expectations – they must be realistic and practicable.• Reserve time to start the process and to end up in an action plan. • Avoid negative thinking and put problems away. • Take all the time small steps in the right direction.• Keep employees engaged and avoid the manager or process leader to take the command.• Use the strategy with small work groups; it gives better possibilities for participation and outspokenness.• Follow up studies are necessary to keep up the motivation.The most positive aspects of the method is its promoting perspective and that it engages all the employees.1.Rauhut, D. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To identify the workloads present in the work activities of community health agents (CHAs) and the resulting strain processes. METHOD A descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional and quantitative study conducted with 137 CHAs. Data were collected through a questionnaire and interview guided by the health surveillance software called SIMOSTE (Health Monitoring System of Nursing Workers), following the ethical codes of the current law. RESULTS In total, were identified 140 workloads involved in 122 strain processes, represented by the occurrence of health problems of the CHAs. The mechanical (55.00%) and biological (16.43%) loads stood out. The most common strain processes were the external causes of morbidity and mortality (62.31%) and diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (10.66%). CONCLUSION From the identified overloads, it became evident that all workloads are present in the work process of CHAs, highlighting the mechanical load, represented mainly by external causes of morbidity and mortality that are related to occupational accidents.

Process development will be largely driven by the main equipment suppliers. The reason for this development is their ambition to supply complete plants or process systems instead of single pieces of equipment. The pulp and paper companies' interest lies in product development, as their main goal is to create winning brands and effective brand management. Design engineering companies will find their niche in detail engineering based on approved process solutions. Their development work will focus on increasing the efficiency of engineering work. Process design is a content-producing profession, which requires certain special characteristics: creativity, carefulness, the ability to work as a member of a design team according to time schedules and fluency in oral as well as written presentation. In the future, process engineers will increasingly need knowledge of chemistry as well as information and automation technology. Process engineering tools are developing rapidly. At the moment, these tools are good enough for static sizing and balancing, but dynamic simulation tools are not yet good enough for the complicated chemical reactions of pulp and paper chemistry. Dynamic simulation and virtual mill models are used as tools for training the operators. Computational fluid dynamics will certainlygain ground in process design.

In this article I intend to show that certain aspects of A.N. Whitehead's philosophy of organism and especially his epochal theory of time, as mainly exposed in his well-known work Process and Reality, can serve in clarify the underlying assumptions that shape nonstandard mathematical theories as such and also as metatheories of quantum mechanics. Concerning the latter issue, I point to an already significant research on nonstandard versions of quantum mechanics; two of these approaches are chosen to be critically presented in relation to the scope of this work. The main point of the paper is that, insofar as we can refer a nonstandard mathematical entity to a kind of axiomatical formalization essentially 'codifying' an underlying mental process indescribable as such by analytic means, we can possibly apply certain principles of Whitehead's metaphysical scheme focused on the key notion of process which is generally conceived as the becoming of actual entities. This is done in the sense of a unifying approach to provide an interpretation of nonstandard mathematical theories as such and also, in their metatheoretical status, as a formalization of the empirical-experimental context of quantum mechanics.

Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, utilizando-se como referencial metodológico a Grounded Theory e como referencial teórico o Processo de Trabalho em Enfermagem, para compreender o papel assumido pelo enfermeiro perante as normas e rotinas hospitalares, relativas aos familiares visitantes e acompanhantes de adultos e idosos internados em um Hospital Universitário. A análise dos dados permitiu a identificação do tema: definindo-se a modalidade de apoio familiar durante a hospitalização, que reúne duas categorias principais: tornando-se familiar visitante e tornando-se familiar acompanhante. Por meio da análise, pôde-se aprofundar a compreensão do quanto as regras estabelecidas, com o objetivo de disciplinar e tornar eficiente o trabalho desenvolvido no hospital, podem explicitar o desprovimento de autonomia no processo de trabalho, para modificar as relações nesse contexto e o quanto a apropriação do familiar como parte da equipe de saúde, está distante de ser pensada no concreto das instituições.

This thesis describes a collection of studies into the electrical response of a III-V MOS stack comprising metal/GaGdO/GaAs layers as a function of fabrication process variables and the findings of those studies. As a result of this work, areas of improvement in the gate process module of a III-V heterostructure MOSFET were identified. Compared to traditional bulk silicon MOSFET design, one featuring a III-V channel heterostructure with a high-dielectric-constant oxide as the gate insulator provides numerous benefits, for example: the insulator can be made thicker for the same capacitance, the operating voltage can be made lower for the same current output, and improved output characteristics can be achieved without reducing the channel length further. It is known that transistors composed of III-V materials are most susceptible to damage induced by radiation and plasma processing. These devices utilise sub-10 nm gate dielectric films, which are prone to contamination, degradation and damage. Therefore, throughout the course of this work, process damage and contamination issues, as well as various techniques to mitigate or prevent those have been investigated through comparative studies of III-V MOS capacitors and transistors comprising various forms of metal gates, various thicknesses of GaGdO dielectric, and a number of GaAs-based semiconductor layer structures. Transistors which were fabricated before this work commenced, showed problems with threshold voltage control. Specifically, MOSFETs designed for normally-off (VTH > 0) operation exhibited below-zero threshold voltages. With the results obtained during this work, it was possible to gain an understanding of why the transistor threshold voltage shifts as the gate length decreases and of what pulls the threshold voltage downwards preventing normally-off device operation. Two main culprits for the negative VTH shift were found. The first was radiation damage induced by the gate metal deposition process, which can be prevented by slowing down the deposition rate. The second was the layer of gold added on top of platinum in the gate metal stack which reduces the effective work function of the whole gate due to its electronegativity properties. Since the device was designed for a platinum-only gate, this could explain the below zero VTH. This could be prevented either by using a platinum-only gate, or by matching the layer structure design and the actual gate metal used for the future devices. Post-metallisation thermal anneal was shown to mitigate both these effects. However, if post-metallisation annealing is used, care should be taken to ensure it is performed before the ohmic contacts are formed as the thermal treatment was shown to degrade the source/drain contacts. In addition, the programme of studies this thesis describes, also found that if the gate contact is deposited before the source/drain contacts, it causes a shift in threshold voltage towards negative values as the gate length decreases, because the ohmic contact anneal process affects the properties of the underlying material differently depending on whether it is covered with the gate metal or not. In terms of surface contamination; this work found that it causes device-to-device parameter variation, and a plasma clean is therefore essential. This work also demonstrated that the parasitic capacitances in the system, namely the contact periphery dependent gate-ohmic capacitance, plays a significant role in the total gate capacitance. This is true to such an extent that reducing the distance between the gate and the source/drain ohmic contacts in the device would help with shifting the threshold voltages closely towards the designed values. The findings made available by the collection of experiments performed for this work have two major applications. Firstly, these findings provide useful data in the study of the possible phenomena taking place inside the metal/GaGdO/GaAs layers and interfaces as the result of chemical processes applied to it. In addition, these findings allow recommendations as to how to best approach fabrication of devices utilising these layers.

This paper reviews the historical development of public health policies in Brazil and the insertion of oral health in this context. Since 1988, Brazil established a Unified National Health System ("Sistema Único de Saúde" - SUS), which was conceived to assure access to health actions and services, including oral health. However, a history of lack of access to health services and the health problems faced by the Brazilian population make the process of building and consolidating the SUS extremely challenging. Since 2004, the Oral Health National Policy has proposed a reorientation of the health care model, supported by an adaptation of the working system of Oral Health teams so that they include actions of health promotion, protection and recovery. Human resources should be prepared to act in this system. The qualifying process must take in consideration knowledge evolution, changes in the work process and changes in demographical and epidemiological aspects, according to a perspective of maintaining a balance between technique and social relevance.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar as competências que, desde a aprovação da lei n.º 11.889/08, incumbem ao técnico em saúde bucal (TSB) no Brasil, incluindo os termos definidos para sua supervisão. Foi realizada análise documental, comparando-se as competências definidas no referido instrumento legal com as previstas no parecer n.º 460/75 do Conselho Federal de Educação e na resolução n.º 63/2005 do Conselho Federal de Odontologia. Foram empregadas técnicas de análise temática considerando-se as habilidades em termos de ações diretas e indiretas distribuídas em quatro áreas de competência: planejamento e administração em saúde, promoção da saúde, prevenção de doenças e de assistência individual. Embora as competências aprovadas na lei tenham sido distribuídas em um número menor de itens, comparado aos dois outros documentos, do ponto de vista qualitativo, os resultados da análise permitiram concluir que vários avanços foram obtidos com a regulamentação da profissão, nos termos aprovados, em todas as áreas de competência. Houve impacto positivo para o processo de trabalho em saúde, tanto com relação à cooperação interprofissional quanto à supervisão técnica das atividades, representando uma conquista relevante dos trabalhadores da área e também uma contribuição significativa para avançar na ampliação do acesso aos serviços odontológicos

Este trabalho aborda aspectos referente à produção do processo de trabalho no cotidiano da gestão da Estratégia Saúde da Família (ESF) em um município do Espírito Santo, a partir dos discursos dos próprios gestores envolvidos no processo. Valoriza a discussão sobre a produção das relações institucionais neste contexto, assim como questões que dizem respeito ao processo de trabalho no dia a dia deste serviço. O percurso metodológico foi orientado pela abordagem qualitativa, sendo utilizado como instrumento metodológico para a coleta de dados a observação direta de uma equipe de ESF, a construção de um diário de campo e entrevistas individuais semiestruturadas aos gestores (secretário municipal de saúde, coordenador da atenção básica, integrante do núcleo da ESF e coordenador de unidade de saúde da família) da ESF desse município. A partir do trabalho de campo e da análise do material produzido, pode-se apreender um cotidiano marcado pelas subjetividades próprias de cada profissional, um cotidiano construído a partir das relações produzidas em cada espaço de atuação dos gestores com os profissionais de saúde e com os usuários. De maneira geral, os discursos dos gestores evidenciam um dia a dia complexo de operar. Além disso, observa-se as que as atividades voltadas para as tomadas de decisão são centradas no papel do gestor formal da instituição de saúde. O organograma da secretaria de saúde do município reforça a hierarquização das relações, principalmente as que se referem às tomadas de decisão, de forma que, pode-se observar que é um dia a dia marcado por tensões, conflitos e controle. As relações produzidas são baseadas em relações de poder, perpetuando características de uma gestão clássica, apesar da concepção e da tentativa de realizar uma gestão pautada na cogestão.

Esta tese apresenta os resultados da pesquisa que teve como objetivo analisar como os trabalhadores vivenciam os efeitos subjetivos produzidos pelo processo de trabalho de um Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Álcool e Drogas (CAPSad). A pesquisa foi realizada sob uma abordagem qualitativa, em um CAPSad do município de Vila Velha, Espírito Santo. A coleta de dados se deu por meio de cinco etapas: 1. Análise documental das políticas vigentes sobre uso de drogas; 2. Análise de prontuários; 3. Entrevista coletiva com dez trabalhadores; 4. Oitenta horas de observação do cotidiano de trabalho; 5. Entrevista em profundidade com treze trabalhadores. Para análise de dados foi utilizada a técnica da Análise Temática. Constatamos que no plano das políticas sobre o assunto,há prevalência de ideias relacionadas à repressão dos usuários, apesar da tentativa do Ministério da Saúde (MS) em abordar a redução de danos como uma estratégia que valoriza o sujeito e sua singularidade. A análise ainda apontou as dificuldades que os profissionais enfrentam neste município para atuar segundo as diretrizes do MS, uma vez que as ações municipais dão ênfase à repressão, à religiosidade e ao amedrontamento como estratégia de prevenção, com apoio da justiça e da polícia. Enfatizamos que tais ambiguidades repercutem no trabalho e para o trabalhador. Apontamos ainda outros aspectos que geram efeitos para os trabalhadores: condições de trabalho precárias (devido à estrutura do serviço, baixos salários e rede de atenção inexistente), falta de reconhecimento (devido à omissão da gerência e à ausência de normas) e sobrecarga (devido à falta de profissionais e aos conflitos nas divisões de tarefas). Essas situações levam a efeitos subjetivos como: desgaste, adoecimento, medo, incapacidade de agir, apatia, desvalorização, desmotivação e no aprisionamento do trabalhador. Notamos que estes efeitos são todos negativos e que os profissionais os vivenciam por meio do distanciamento afetivo no processo de trabalho, o que repercute negativamente na possibilidade de produção de um cuidado efetivo. Sugerimos que haja investimentos na formação de todos os trabalhadores que atuam nesse local, com foco na educação permanente, uma vez que por meio desta há o incentivo da aprendizagem e o enfrentamento criativo dos efeitos vivenciados no cotidiano.É preciso que haja diálogo, seja entre os trabalhadores e a gestão, entre os próprios trabalhadores e entre trabalhadores e usuários.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate public health dentistry practices of two different family health models. METHODS: Qualitative study conducted with data obtained from focus groups consisting of 58 dentists working in the Family Health Strategy for at least three years between August-October, 2006. The Paideia Family Health Approach was used in the city of Campinas and the Oral Health Initiative as part of the Family Health Strategy was implemented in the city of Curitiba, Southeastern and Southern Brazil, respectively. Data was analyzed using the hermeneutic-dialectic method. Analysis indicators were employed to indicate backwardness, stagnation or progress in oral health practices effective from the implementation of the strategies referred. The indicators used were: work process; interdisciplinary approach; territorialization; capacity building of human resources; health promotion practices; and responsiveness to users' demands. RESULTS: There was progress in user access to services, humanization of health care, patient welcoming and patient-provider relationship. The results related to health promotion practices, territorialization, interdisciplinary approach and resource capacity building indicated a need for technical and operational enhancements in both cities. CONCLUSIONS: Both models have brought about important advances in terms of increased access to services and humanization of health care. Universal access to oral health at all levels of complexity was not achieved in both cities studied. Local health managers and oral health program coordinators must bring more weight to bear in the arena that defines public policy priorities.
