Converse results to the Wiener attack on RSA

A well-known attack on RSA with low secret-exponent d was given by Wiener about 15 years ago. Wiener showed that using continued fractions, one can efficiently recover the secret-exponent d from the public key (N,e) as long as d < N 1/4. Interestingly, Wiener stated that his attack may sometimes also work when d is slightly larger than N 1/4. This raises the question of how much larger d can be: could the attack work with non-negligible probability for d=N 1/4 + ρ for some constant ρ > 0? We answer this question in the negative by proving a converse to Wiener’s result. Our result shows that, for any fixed ε > 0 and all sufficiently large modulus lengths, Wiener’s attack succeeds with negligible probability over a random choice of d < N δ (in an interval of size Ω(N δ )) as soon as δ > 1/4 + ε. Thus Wiener’s success bound dWiener attack, which are guaranteed to succeed even when δ > 1/4. The known attacks in this class (by Verheul and Van Tilborg and Dujella) run in exponential time, so it is natural to ask whether there exists an attack in this class with subexponential run-time. Our second converse result answers this question also in the negative.

A simplified approach to a three-part Wiener-Hopf problem arising in diffraction theory

A direct and simple approach, utilizing Watson's lemma, is presented for obtaining an approximate solution of a three-part Wiener-Hopf problem associated with the problem of diffraction of a plane wave by a soft strip.

Holomorphic Sobolev spaces, Hermite and special Hermite semigroups and a Paley-Wiener theorem for the windowed Fourier transform

The images of Hermite and Laguerre-Sobolev spaces under the Hermite and special Hermite semigroups (respectively) are characterized. These are used to characterize the image of Schwartz class of rapidly decreasing functions f on R-n and C-n under these semigroups. The image of the space of tempered distributions is also considered and a Paley-Wiener theorem for the windowed (short-time) Fourier transform is proved.

L-p Wiener-Tauberian theorems for M(2)

We prove two sided and one sided analogues of the Wiener-Tauberian theorem for the Euclidean motion group, M(2).

Segal-Bargmann transform and Paley-Wiener theorems on M(2)

We study the Segal-Bargmann transform on M(2). The range of this transform is characterized as a weighted Bergman space. In a similar fashion Poisson integrals are investigated. Using a Gutzmer's type formula we characterize the range as a class of functions extending holomorphically to an appropriate domain in the complexification of M(2). We also prove a Paley-Wiener theorem for the inverse Fourier transform.

Analogues of the Wiener-Tauberian and Schwartz theorems for radial functions on symmetric spaces

We prove a Wiener Tauberian theorem for the L-1 spherical functions on a semisimple Lie group of arbitrary real rank. We also establish a Schwartz-type theorem for complex groups. As a corollary we obtain a Wiener Tauberian type result for compactly supported distributions.

The Wiener-Hopf solution of a class of mixed boundary value problems arising in surface water wave phenomena

Two mixed boundary value problems associated with two-dimensional Laplace equation, arising in the study of scattering of surface waves in deep water (or interface waves in two superposed fluids) in the linearised set up, by discontinuities in the surface (or interface) boundary conditions, are handled for solution by the aid of the Weiner-Hopf technique applied to a slightly more general differential equation to be solved under general boundary conditions and passing on to the limit in a manner so as to finally give rise to the solutions of the original problems. The first problem involves one discontinuity while the second problem involves two discontinuities. The reflection coefficient is obtained in closed form for the first problem and approximately for the second. The behaviour of the reflection coefficient for both the problems involving deep water against the incident wave number is depicted in a number of figures. It is observed that while the reflection coefficient for the first problem steadily increases with the wave number, that for the second problem exhibits oscillatory behaviour and vanishes at some discrete values of the wave number. Thus, there exist incident wave numbers for which total transmission takes place for the second problem. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Two stage iterative wiener filtering for speech enhancement

We formulate a two-stage Iterative Wiener filtering (IWF) approach to speech enhancement, bettering the performance of constrained IWF, reported in literature. The codebook constrained IWF (CCIWF) has been shown to be effective in achieving convergence of IWF in the presence of both stationary and non-stationary noise. To this, we include a second stage of unconstrained IWF and show that the speech enhancement performance can be improved in terms of average segmental SNR (SSNR), Itakura-Saito (IS) distance and Linear Prediction Coefficients (LPC) parameter coincidence. We also explore the tradeoff between the number of CCIWF iterations and the second stage IWF iterations.
