Last week I sat down with a Brazilian acquaintance who was shaking his head over the state of national politics. A graduate of a military high school, he'd been getting e-mails from former classmates, many of them now retired army officers, who were irate over the recent presidential elections. "We need to kick these no-good Petistas out of office," one bristled, using the derogatory shorthand for members of the ruling Workers Party, or PT in Portuguese.

What you see above is a graphic representation of something anyone who followed the campaign that led to the re-election of Dilma Rousseff as Brazil’s president on October 26 already knows: the election was the most polarised in the country’s history. Brasil was split down the middle, not only numerically (Dilma got 52 per cent, Aécio Neves 48) and geographically (Dilma won in the less developed north, Aécio in the more prosperous south). The twitterspere, too, was divided into two camps. Not only that; they hardly talked to each other at all.

The artwork describes web as a network environment and a space where people are connected and as a result, it can reshape you as an interactive participant who is able to regenerate an object as a new form through a truly collaborative and cooperative interactions with others. The artwork has been created based on the research findings of characteristic of web: 1) Participatory (Slater 2002, p.536), 2) Communicational (Rheingold 1993), 3) Connected (Jordan 1999, 80), and 4) Stylising (Jordan 1999, 69). The artwork has conceptualised and visualised those characteristics of web based on principles of graphic design and visual communication.

Web design elements are significantly important for web designers to understand target users in terms of effective communication design and to develop a successful web site. However, web design elements generally known are broad and various that are hardly conceived and classified, so many practitioners and design researchers approach to web design elements based on graphic and visual design that mainly focus on print media design. This paper discusses about web design elements in terms of online user experience, as web media certainly differs from print media. It aims to propose a fundamentally new concept, called 'UEDUs: User Experience Design Units' which enables web designers to define web design elements and conceptualise user experience depending on the purpose of web site development.

This project investigated 1) Australian web designers’ cultural perceptions towards Australian Indigenous users and 2) Australian Indigenous cultural features in terms of user interface design. In doing so, it reviews the literature of cross-cultural user interface design by focusing on feasible models and arguments to articulate and integrate Australian Indigenous Internet users’ cultural needs of web user interface. The online survey results collected from 101 Indigenous users and 126 Web designers showed a distinctive difference between them on the integration of Indigenous users' cultural in Web sites. The interview data collected from 14 Indigenous users and 14 web designers suggested practical approaches to the design implications of Indigenous culture.

Este trabalho aplica a Teoria de Autômatos na proposição de uma nova alternativa para prover animações 2D na World Wide Web, verificando as contribuições alcançadas para as questões relacionadas ao espaço de armazenamento, reutilização e manutenção do conteúdo e suporte à recuperação de informação. Para este objetivo, é proposto o modelo AGA (Animação Gráfica baseada em Autômatos Finitos), o qual especifica a animação a partir de uma estrutura baseada em autômatos finitos com saída. Esse modelo é definido de tal forma que os mesmos autômatos utilizados na especificação, ao serem simulados, realizam o controle da animação durante a apresentação. O modelo AGA apresenta características que favorecem a redução do espaço de armazenamento da animação, provêem suporte à recuperação de informação, colaboram com a reutilização e manutenção do conteúdo das animações. Uma implementação multiplataforma foi desenvolvida para apresentar animações especificadas nesse modelo na Web. Essa implementação proporciona a elaboração de consultas ao conteúdo da animação, além dos recursos tradicionais de reprodução. A partir dessa implementação, o AGA foi submetido a um estudo de caso prático, onde os resultados obtidos são comparados com o produzidos pelo GIF (Graphic Interchange Format). Esse comparativo demonstra que o AGA possui várias vantagens em relação à estrutura adotada pelo GIF. O modelo AGA é estendido utilizando autômatos temporizados para prover restrições temporais às especificações e também ampliar as funcionalidades de interação com o observador da animação. Essa extensão, chamada de modelo AGA-S (Animação Gráfica baseada em Autômatos Temporizados Sincronizados), é definida a partir do autômato temporizado proposto por Alur e Dill. Para esse modelo, é definida uma operação formal para sincronização dos componentes da animação e adicionada uma estrutura baseada em autômatos finitos para controlar a interação do observador com a animação.

[ES] El Trabajo de Fin de Grado, Monitor Web de Expresiones Regulares (MWRegEx), es una herramienta basada en tecnologías web, desarrollada usando el entorno Visual Studio. El objetivo principal de la aplicación es dar apoyo a la docencia de expresiones regulares, en el marco de la enseñanza del manejo de ristras de caracteres en las asignaturas de programación del Grado en Ingeniería Informática.  La aplicación permite obtener el dibujo de un autómata de una expresión regular, facilitando su comprensión; además, permite aplicar la expresión a diferentes ristras de caracteres, mostrando las coincidencias encontradas, y ofrece una versión de la expresión adaptada a su uso en literales string de lenguajes como Java y otros. La herramienta se ha implementado en dos partes: un servicio web, escrito en C#, donde se realizan todos los análisis de las expresiones regulares y las ristras a contrastar; y un cliente web, implementado usando tecnología asp.net, con JavaScript y JQuery, que gestiona la interfaz de usuario y muestra los resultados. Esta separación permite que el servicio web pueda ser reutilizado con otras aplicaciones cliente. El autómata que representa una expresión regular esta dibujado usando la librería Raphaël JavaScript que permite manejar los elementos SVG. Cada elemento de la expresión regular tiene un dibujo diferente y único para así diferenciarlo. Toda la interfaz gráfica de usuario está internacionalizada de manera tal que pueda adaptarse a diferentes idiomas y regiones sin la necesidad de realizar cambios de ingeniería ni en el código. Tanto el servicio web como la parte cliente están estructurados para que se puedan agregar nuevas modificaciones sin que esto genere una onda expansiva a lo largo de las diversas clases existentes.

[ES] La realización de los nuevos estudios de gestión de la demanda requiere nuevas aproximaciones en las que la red eléctrica se analiza como un sistema complejo. Estos están formados por un gran número de entidades fuertemente enlazadas entre sí. Se afronta el reto de añadir la capacidad de interacción sobre una simulación de sistemas complejos en tiempo de ejecución. Pero, ¿Cómo abordar la representación de un sistema complejo de tal manera que sea fácilmente gestionable por una persona?, o ¿Cómo ofrecer una manera sencilla de alterar la simulación?. Con esta idea nace Simulation Gateway Interface, un framework que permite hacer accesibles las simulaciones a través de una interfaz gráfica.

There are significant levels of concern about the relevance and the difficulty of learning some issues on Strength of Materials and Structural Analysis. Most students of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis in Civil Engineering usually point out some key learning aspects as especially difficult for acquiring specific skills. These key concepts entail comprehension difficulties but ease access and applicability to structural analysis in more advanced subjects. Likewise, some elusive but basic structural concepts, such as flexibility, stiffness or influence lines, are paramount for developing further skills required for advanced structural design: tall buildings, arch-type structures as well as bridges. As new curricular itineraries are currently being implemented, it appears appropriate to devise a repository of interactive web-based applications for training in those basic concepts. That will hopefully train the student to understand the complexity of such concepts, to develop intuitive knowledge on actual structural response and to improve their preparation for exams. In this work, a web-based learning assistant system for influence lines on continuous beams is presented. It consists of a collection of interactive user-friendly applications accessible via Web. It is performed in both Spanish and English languages. Rather than a “black box” system, the procedure involves open interaction with the student, who can simulate and virtually envisage the structural response. Thus, the student is enabled to set the geometric, topologic and mechanic layout of a continuous beam and to change or shift the loading and the support conditions. Simultaneously, the changes in the beam response prompt on the screen, so that the effects of the several issues involved in structural analysis become apparent. The system is performed through a set of web pages which encompasses interactive exercises and problems, written in JavaScript under JQuery and DyGraphs frameworks, given that their efficiency and graphic capabilities are renowned. Students can freely boost their self-study on this subject in order to face their exams more confidently. En este trabajo de fin de grado se llevará a cabo la elaboración de una aplicación web de gestión de gastos personales desde sus inicios, hasta su completo funcionamiento. Estas aplicaciones poseen un crecimiento emergente en el mercado, lo cual implica que la competencia entre ellas es muy elevada. Por ello el diseño de la aplicación que se va a desarrollar en este trabajo ha sido delicadamente cuidado. Se trata de un proceso minucioso el cual aportará a cada una de las partes de las que va a constar la aplicación características únicas que se plasmaran en funcionalidades para el usuario, como son: añadir sus propios gastos e ingresos mensuales, confeccionar gráficos de sus principales gastos, obtención de consejos de una fuente externa, etc… Estas funcionalidades de carácter único junto con otras más generalistas, como son el diseño gráfico en una amplia gama de colores, harán su manejo más fácil e intuitivo. Hay que destacar que para optimizar su uso, la aplicación tendrá la característica de ser responsive, es decir, será capaz de modificar su interfaz según el tamaño de la pantalla del dispositivo desde el que se acceda. Para su desarrollo, se va a utilizar una de las tecnologías más novedosas del mercado y siendo una de las más revolucionarias del momento, MEAN.JS. Con esta innovadora tecnología se creará la aplicación de gestión económica de gastos personales. Gracias al carácter innovador de aplicar esta tecnología novedosa, los retos que plantea este proyecto son muy variados, desde cómo estructurar las carpetas del proyecto y toda la parte de backend hasta como realizar el diseño de la parte de frontend. Además una vez finalizado su desarrollo y puesta en marcha se analizaran posibles mejoras para poder perfeccionarla en su totalidad. ABSTRACT In this final degree project will take out the development of a web application from its inception, until its full performance management. These applications have an emerging market growth, implying that competition between them is very high. Therefore the design of the application that will be developed in this work has been delicately care. It's a painstaking process which will provide each of the parties which will contain the application unique features that were translated into functionality for the user, such as: add their own expenses and monthly income, make graphs of your major expenses, obtaining advice from an external source, etc... These features of unique character together with other more general, such as graphic design in a wide range of colors, will make more easy and intuitive handling. It should be noted that to optimize its use, the application will have the characteristic of being responsive, will be able to modify your interface according to the size of the screen of the device from which are accessed. For its development, it is to use one of the newest technologies on the market and being one of the most revolutionary moment, MEAN. JS. The economic management of personal expenses application will be created with this innovative technology. Thanks to the innovative nature of applying this new technology, the challenges posed by this project are varied, from how to structure the folders of the project and all the backend part up to how to perform the part of frontend design. In addition once finished its development and commissioning possible improvements will analyze to be able to perfect it in its entirety.

El autor de este proyecto es miembro reciente de la asociación SoloBoulder, dedicada a la modalidad de escalada boulder, noticias y actualidad, contenido multimedia, promoción de un equipo de escaladores y defensa de valores medioambientales en la montaña. El principal canal de distribución de contenidos es una página web existente previa a este proyecto. La asociación ha detectado una escasez y mala calidad de recursos en internet en cuanto a guías de zonas donde poder practicar el boulder. Tal circunstancia impulsa la iniciativa de este proyecto fin de carrera. El objetivo general es el desarrollo de una nueva aplicación que proporcione a los usuarios a nivel mundial una guía interactiva de boulder y otros puntos de interés, una red social que permita la creación cooperativa y orgánica de contenido, y servicios web para el consumo de la información desde otras plataformas u organizaciones. El nuevo software desarrollado es independiente de la página web de SoloBoulder previa. No obstante, ambas partes se integran bajo el mismo domino web y aspecto. La nueva aplicación ofrece a escaladores y turistas un servicio informativo e interactivo de calidad, con el que se espera aumentar el número de visitas en todo el sitio web y poder ampliar la difusión de valores medioambientales, diversificar las zonas de boulder y regular las masificadas, favorecer el deporte y brindar al escalador una oportunidad de autopromoción personal. Una gran motivación para el autor también es el proceso de investigación y formación en tecnologías, patrones arquitecturales de diseño y metodologías de trabajo adaptadas a las tendencias actuales en la ingeniería de software, con especial curiosidad hacia el mundo web. A este respecto podemos destacar: metodología de trabajo en proyectos, análisis de proyectos, arquitecturas de software, diseño de software, bases de datos, programación y buenas prácticas, seguridad, interfaz gráfica web, diseño gráfico, Web Performance Optimization, Search Engine Optimization, etc. En resumen, este proyecto constituye un aprendizaje y puesta en práctica de diversos conocimientos adquiridos durante la ejecución del mismo, así como afianzamiento de materias estudiadas en la carrera. Además, el producto desarrollado ofrece un servicio de calidad a los usuarios y favorece el deporte y la autopromoción del escalador. ABSTRACT. The author of this Project is recent member of the association SoloBoulder, dedicated to a rock climbing discipline called bouldering, news, multimedia content, promotion of a team of climbers and defense of environmental values in the mountain. The main content distribution channel is a web page existing previous to this project. The association has detected scarcity and bad quality of resources on the internet about guides of bouldering areas. This circumstance motivates the initiative of this project. The general objective is the development of a new application which provides a worldwide, interactive bouldering guide, including other points of interest, a social network which allows the cooperative and organic creation of content, and web services for consumption of information from other platforms or organizations. The new software developed is independent of the previous SoloBoulder web page. However, both parts are integrated under the same domain and appearance. The new application offers to climbers and tourists a quality informative and interactive service, with which we hope to increase the number of visits in the whole web site and be able to expand the dissemination of environmental values, diversify boulder areas and regulate the overcrowded ones, encourage sport and offer to the climber an opportunity of self-promotion. A strong motivation for the author is also the process of investigation and education in technologies, architectural design patterns and working methodologies adapted to the actual trends in software engineering, with special curiosity about the web world. In this regard we could highlight: project working methodologies, project analysis, software architectures, software design, data bases, programming and good practices, security, graphic web interface, graphic design, Web Performance Optimization, Search Engine Optimization, etc. To sum up, this project constitutes learning and practice of diverse knowledge acquired during its execution, as well as consolidation of subjects studied in the degree. In addition, the product developed offers a quality service to the users and favors the sport and the selfpromotion of the climber.
