Resting Heart Rate is Associated with Blood Pressure in Male Children and Adolescents

Objectives To analyze the association between resting heart rate and blood pressure in male children and adolescents and to identify if this association is mediated by important confounders. Study design Cross-sectional study carried out with 356 male children and adolescents from 8 to 18 years old. Resting heart rate was measured by a portable heart rate monitor according to recommendations and stratified into quartiles. Blood pressure was measured with an electronic device previously validated for pediatric populations. Body fatness was estimated by a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Results Obese subjects had values of resting heart rate 7.8% higher than nonobese (P = .001). Hypertensive children and adolescents also had elevated values of resting heart rate (P = .001). When the sample was stratified in nonobese and obese, the higher quartile of resting heart rate was associated with hypertension in both groups of children and adolescents. Conclusions This study confirms the existence of a relationship between elevated resting heart rate and increased blood pressure in a pediatric population, independent of adiposity, ethnicity and age. New stereoselective routes to macrocyclic ligands

Reaction of bis(ethane-1,2-diamine)copper(II) with acetaldehyde and nitromethane in methanol leads, stereoselectively, to the new macrocyclic complex (trans-5(R),7(R),12(S),14(S))-tetramethyl-6,13-dinitro-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane)copper(II) perchlorate alpha-[CuL1](ClO4)(2) in good yield. Reduction of the nitro groups affords the hexaamine (L-2), which was crystallized as [H4L2](ClO4)(4) . 2H(2)O and characterized by an X-ray crystal structure study (monoclinic P2(1)/n, a = 9.763(2) Angstrom, b = 12.1988(7) Angstrom, c = 13.036(2) Angstrom, beta = 105.668(7)degrees, Z = 2) and complexed with Cu-II to produce the complex beta-[Cu(H2L2)](ClO4)(4) . 2H(2)O, which has also been characterized by X-ray crystallography (monoclinic P2(1)/n, a = 9.717(4) Angstrom, b = 12.174(2) Angstrom, c = 13.036(5) Angstrom, beta = 106.51(2)degrees, Z = 2). Reaction of alpha-[CuL1](2+) with either basic hydrogen peroxide or dilute nitrous acid leads to mild reduction of the nitro groups to afford the ketoxime L-3 as its N-based isomeric Cu-II complexes, trans-I [CuL3](ClO4)(2) and trans-II [Cu(L-3)Cl]Cl . 7H(2)O, the latter of which has been characterized structurally: triclinic, <P(1)over bar> a = 10.8441(5) Angstrom, b = 11.6632(9) Angstrom, c = 11.8723(9) Angstrom, alpha = 113.634(7)degrees, beta = 95.744(5), gamma = 94.851(5)degrees Z = 2. Variations in the configurations of the coordinated amines in [CuL1](2+), [CuL2](2+), and [CuL3](2+) have a profound effect on the spectroscopy and electrochemistry of their complexes.

Ilmanlaatu Uudellamaalla 2011

Ilmanlaatuindeksin perusteella arvioituna ilmanlaatu oli vuonna 2011 Porvoossa ja Lohjalla enimmäkseen hyvää tai tyydyttävää. Välttävän, huonon ja erittäin huonon ilmanlaadun tilanteita oli melko vähän. Katujen keväinen pölyäminen oli syynä huonoon ja erittäin huonoon ilmanlaatuun. Hengitettäville hiukkasille annetut raja-arvot eivät vuonna 2011 ylittyneet Porvoossa ja Lohjalla. Hengitettävien hiukkasten vuorokausipitoisuudelle annettu ohjearvo ylittyi Porvoon mittausasemalla ainoastaan huhtikuussa, Lohjalla ei lainkaan. Hengitettävien hiukkasten pitoisuudet olivat sekä Porvoossa että Lohjalla matalammat kuin aiempina vuosina. Kevään katupölykausi alkoi maaliskuun puolivälin paikkeilla, mutta lumipeite ja ajoittaiset sadekuurot hillitsivät katujen pölyämistä huhtikuun alkupuolelle asti. Lievä pölyäminen jatkui toukokuun puoliväliin saakka. Pienhiukkasten vuosipitoisuus oli Lohjalla selvästi alle raja-arvon ja likimain samalla tasolla kuin vuonna 2010. Sekä jatkuvatoimisissa mittauksissa että passiivikeräinkartoituksissa saadut typpidioksidipitoisuudet olivat selvästi raja- ja ohjearvojen alapuolella. Pitoisuudet olivat mittauspaikasta riippuen matalammat tai samaa tasoa kuin vuonna 2010. Otsonipitoisuudet ylittivät sekä terveys- että kasvillisuusperusteiset pitkän ajan tavoitteet. Sen sijaan vuodelle 2010 annetut tavoitearvot eivät ylittyneet. Vuonna 2011 pitoisuudet olivat edellisvuotta korkeammat. Pääkaupunkiseudulla tehtyjen mittausten ja päästökartoitusten perusteella rikkidioksidin, hiilimonoksidin, bentseenin ja lyijyn pitoisuudet olivat raja-arvojen alapuolella ja arseenin, kadmiumin ja nikkelin pitoisuudet vastaavasti tavoitearvoja alempia. Polyaromaattisten hiilivetyjen pitoisuuksista on riittämättömästi tietoja toistaiseksi. Energiantuotannon, teollisuuden ja autoliikenteen yhteenlasketut typenoksidien, hiukkasten, rikkidioksidin, hiilimonoksidin ja haihtuvien orgaanisten yhdisteiden päästöt vähenivät vuonna 2011 vuoteen 2010 verrattuina.
