Spermiogenesis and spermatozoon ultrastructure of the diphyllidean cestode Echinobothrium euterpes (Neifar, Tyler and Euzet 2001) Tyler 2006, a parasite of the common guitarfish Rhinobatos rhinobatos

Spermiogenesis and the ultrastructural characters of the spermatozoon of Echinobothrium euterpes are described by means of transmission electron microscopy, including cytochemical analysis for glycogen. Materials were obtained from a common guitarfish Rhinobatos rhinobatos caught in the Gulf of Gabès (Tunisia). Spermiogenesis in E. euterpes is characterized by the orthogonal development of two unequal flagella followed by the flagellar rotation and the proximodistal fusion of these flagella with the median cytoplasmic process. The most interesting pattern characterizing the diphyllidean cestodes is the presence of a triangular body constituted by fines and dense granules without visible striation and assimilated at the striated rootlets. This pattern, only related in the Diphyllidea cestodes may be a synapomorphy of this order. Spermiogenesis is also characterized by the presence of a very short flagellum (around 1 μm long), observed in all the stages of spermiogenesis. This type of flagellum has never been commented in the diphyllidean cestodes and should be considered as an evolved character in this group. In the latest stage of spermiogenesis, this short axoneme probably degenerates. Thus, the mature spermatozoon of E. euterpes possesses only one axoneme of 9 + '1' trepaxonematan pattern. It also exhibits a single helical electron-dense crested body, a spiraled nucleus, few parallel cortical microtubules, and α-glycogen granules. Similitudes and differences between spermatozoa of diphyllideans are discussed.

Reevaluación de las valoraciones del Rationale de Tyler.

En este trabajo se hace una reevaluación de las diferentes valoraciones que ha tenido el Rationale de Tyler. Comienza el autor estableciendo una comparación de éste con las técnicas de formación del curriculum de Francklin Bobbit ya que buena parte de la literatura encuentra similitudes entre ambos. Se continua demostrando la unidad orgánica de las fuentes mediadoras (estudios del alumno, estudios de la vida contemporanea y sugerencias sobre los objetivos de los especialistas en la asignatura). A continuación se valora la neutralidad filosófica de Tyler como una toma local de decisiones. Y, por último, contradice a quienes piensan que en el Rationale de Tyler se utiliza el curriculum como un instrumento administrativo y de gestión, diciendo que el Rationale estimula a los principales determinantes del curriculum a hacerse cargo del curriculum, aporta cuestiones de guía y fuentes, no con el propósito de sofocar la iniciativa ingeniosa, sino con el de prestar una visión fundamental de crecimiento y movimiento hacia un ideal.

Revisión del Rationale de Tyler.

En este trabajo el autor contesta las críticas que le fueron hechas por Hlebowitsh en el artículo 'Reevaluación de las valoraciones del Rationale de Tyler' publicado en el volumen I, número 1, de enero de 1998 en esta revista. En primer lugar, el autor piensa que la rigidez del sistema que propone el Rationale se debe a la necesidad de predeterminar objetivos. Además, no habría necesidad de introducir un mecanismo para clasificar objetivos si no hubiera necesidad de elegir objetivos. Por otro lado, critica el uso de una filosofía en el Rationale porque su elección puede ser tan arbitraria como la elección de objetivos. Para concluir, el autor considera la planificación del curriculum como un proceso destinado a tomar decisiones sabias e informadas en relación con una tarea muy compleja y no como una secuencia de pasos.

Interpretaciones al Rationale de Tyler : una respuesta a Kliebard.

Este trabajo es la respuesta del autor al artículo publicado en esta revista volumen I, número 2, de abril de 1998 titulado 'Revisión del Rationale de Tyler' de Kliebard. Como respuesta a todas las críticas hechas al Rationale de Tyler, el autor de este artículo concluye que el Rationale representa el compromiso del experimentalista progresista para poner a prueba las ideas en la práctica, para encontrar juicios en fuentes psico-filosóficas clave, y para formular problemas y soluciones del currículum basadas en un método reflexivo.

One-page handwritten letter from Thomas Clap to Royal Tyler acknowledging his return of "Mr. Sewals Hebrew Grammar" to Tyler and noting that the work is "best especially for beginners." The letter is torn into three pieces and some text is missing. A portion of the missing text can be found in Box 4.
