Notes on various cases, including cases of burglary, debt, fraud, libel, receiving stolen goods, and one case of attempted murder of an infant by his mother.

Indenture acknowledging sale of property, Boston, 1753

Document acknowledges the sale of the late Samuel Clark's house and property to Alexander Hill. Samuel Clark's executor, James Clark, was required by law to sell the property to the highest bidder in order to pay the debts of the deceased.

[ Warrant for the arrest of Samuel Gray for debt], 1769

A warrant for the arrest and sale of all assets of Gray who was found to owe another merchant Alexander Hill in a recent trial. Also includes appraisal of property by Fairfield and Salter and statement by Sheriff Cudworth.

Register of the Inferior Court, 1759-1763

Contains the Inferior Court's register of debtor's cases heard for the Mayor's Court for the following counties: Orange County, Suffolk County, Westchester County, Ulster County, Duchess County, and Queens County, in New York state. The register, kept by William Wickham, cites parties to the action, sentencing, court costs, and has a name index at the end.

Records of cases before the Mayor's Court of Albany, 1786-1796

Contains a summary of cases before the court beginning with the litigants and the damages sought, the legal action, names of counsel, actions taken, and the final disposition of the case. Most actions taken relate to debt, assault and battery, and slander and libel. At the back of the manuscript are "an account of law books by me purchased in the year 1784 & 1785" [p. 120], and"a list miscellanious books bought in the year 1784 & 1785" [p. 132].

Docket book, 1774-1800

Contains list of names of parties in legal disputes arranged chronologically. Little information is given about the nature of disputes.

Book of record for actions under $4.00. 1790-1799

Contains a record of cases which came before Egleston in his capacity as a justice of the peace for Berkshire County. The court was held in his home at Lenox.

Motion for change of venue in the case of the Inhabitants of Massachusetts Bay Colony v. Charles Paxton, October 1761

A motion that the case not be tried in Suffolk County, on the grounds that the judges and jurors were residents of the colony. Pratt was attorney to Paxton, an attorney and commissioner of customs, who had incurred a debt to the Colony.
