Classificações de signos de C.S.Peirce: de ‘On the Logic of Science’ ao ‘Syllabus of Certain Topics of Logic’

As classificações dos signos de C.S.Peirce começam a ser desenvolvidas em 1865 e se estendem a até, pelo menos, 1909. Vou apresentar o período que tem início em 1865, e possui dois momentos de intensa produção - "On a New List of Categories" e "On the Algebra of Logic: a contribution to the philosophy of notation". Em seguida apresento as dez classes de signos, uma morfologia que aparece no "Syllabus of Certain Topics of Logic", e é desenvolvida a partir de 1903. Meu propósito aqui é familiarizar o leitor com as intrincadas classificações sígnicas de Peirce.

Topics of divisibility

The set of integers forms a commutative ring whose elements admit a unique decomposition into primes. In this folder three lecture notes are bound, concerning topics, developed by dropping or replacing special properties of this most natural and most special ring. For short: investigated are groupoids w.r.t the interplay of multiplication - on the one hand - and divisibility, ideal decomposition and residuation, respectively, on the other hand.

Heteroplasmy in hair: Differences among hair and blood from the same individuals are still a matter of debate

The analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is a useful tool in forensic cases when sample contents too little or degraded nuclear DNA to genotype by autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) loci, but it is especially useful when the only forensic evidence is a hair shaft. Several authors have related differences in mtDNA from different tissues within the same individual, with high frequency of heteroplasmic variants in hair, as also in some other tissues. Is still a matter of debate how the differences influence the interpretation forensic protocols. One difference between two samples supposed to be originated from the same individual are related to an inconclusive result, but depending on the tissue and the position of the difference it should have a different interpretation, based on mutation-rate heterogeneity of mtDNA. In order to investigate it differences in the mtDNA control region from hair hafts and blood in our population, sequences from the hypervariable regions 1 and 2 (HV1 and HV2) from 100 Brazilian unrelated individuals were compared. The frequency of point heteroplasmy observed in hair was 10.5% by sequencing. Our study confirms the results related by other authors that concluded that small differences within tissues should be interpreted with caution especially when analyzing hair samples. Factors affecting the strength of denture repairs: Topics of interest

Fracture of dentures is a common clinical finding in daily prosthodontic practice, resulting in great inconvenience to both patient and dentist. A satisfactory repair should be cost-effective, simple to perform, and quick; it should also match the original color and not cause distortion to the existing denture. Different repair materials, surface designs, and mechanical and chemical surface treatments have been recommended in order to obtain stronger repairs. This article reviews some of the available literature with regard to the most important factors that may influence the strength of denture repairs. © 2007 by The American College of Prosthodontists.

Estudos sobre as instituições participativas: o debate sobre sua efetividade

The main purpose of this article is to introduce the debate on the effectiveness of the participatory institutions in Brazil. At first, it will bring the very early debate about participatory democracy and deliberative democracy. Afterwards, the article will show how international literature impacts studies on the democratic transition in Brazil, trying to delineate the borders, limitations and advances of Brazilian literature about the theme. In the last part, the main topics of debate on the effectiveness of participatory institutions - methods and instruments of evaluation - will be pointed out

Urban Planning 1: Topics and Debates

The texts collected are a sample of the topics for study and debate that have been part of the Urban Planning 1 subject in the second year of the Bachelor Degree in Architecture during the academic year 2014-2015. These notes have been prepared by students as part of exercises of debate and presentation. Records of the Debating Club of Resident Graduates, 1792-1793

This journal contains minutes from meetings held from February 1792 through October 1793. These minutes include the names of participants and the questions and arguments which were debated, including: whether or not French slaves in the West Indies should be emancipated; whether or not reading novels was beneficial; whether sermons were more effective when memorized than when simply read; whether theater contributed to corrupt morals; whether drunkenness or gambling was more detrimental to society; and whether or not French assistance to the colonies in their Revolutionary War provided sufficient cause for the United States to join with France in its own wars. Most of the topics of debate centered on religion, government and education. Several entries also include notes on related topics of discussion, including the reasons for Native American tribes' hostilities against federal authorities, and there are several references to published works which were cited and consulted in the course of debate.
