By combining the ontological approaches to technology of Dessauer, Ortega y Gasset and Heidegger, with the psychology of Jung, the integrated and psycho-constructivist approach to technology demonstrates that the relationship between human beings and technological systems is a symptomatic, symbiotic and synchronistic factor of human well-being and adaption.

Building surveying is fragmenting into specialist areas that will in time displace the profession and contribute to its demise. For the profession to survive it must change and embrace these new areas as part of the building surveying family. The research identified 18 ingredients of successful professional bodies that the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors can use to position the organisation to accommodate these new areas and assist it to prosper and grow into an effective professional body.

This paper investigates 'future-proofing' as an unexplored yet all-important aspect in the design of low-energy dwellings. It refers particularly to adopting lifecycle thinking and accommodating risks and uncertainties in the selection of fabric energy efficiency measures and low or zero-carbon technologies. Based on a conceptual framework for future-proofed design, the paper first presents results from the analysis of two 'best practice' housing developments in England; i.e., North West Cambridge in Cambridge and West Carclaze and Baal in St. Austell, Cornwall. Second, it examines the 'Energy and CO2 Emissions' part of the Code for Sustainable Homes to reveal which design criteria and assessment methods can be practically integrated into this established building certification scheme so that it can become more dynamic and future-oriented.Practical application: Future-proofed construction is promoted implicitly within the increasingly stringent building regulations; however, there is no comprehensive method to readily incorporate futures thinking into the energy design of buildings. This study has a three-fold objective of relevance to the building industry:Illuminating the two key categories of long-term impacts in buildings, which are often erroneously treated interchangeably:- The environmental impact of buildings due to their long lifecycles.- The environment's impacts on buildings due to risks and uncertainties affecting the energy consumption by at least 2050. This refers to social, technological, economic, environmental and regulatory (predictable or unknown) trends and drivers of change, such as climate uncertainty, home-working, technology readiness etc.Encouraging future-proofing from an early planning stage to reduce the likelihood of a prematurely obsolete building design.Enhancing established building energy assessment methods (certification, modelling or audit tools) by integrating a set of future-oriented criteria into their methodologies. © 2012 The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.

The University Women’s Club of St. Catharines was founded in 1921, two years after the formation of its national affiliate, the Canadian Federation of University Women. Membership was limited to women with university degrees. In early 2000 the constitution was expanded to include professions that now require university or college degrees. Associate members (non-voting) and student members were also accepted in 2007 by our local club. The purposes of the club are to assist in maintaining high standards of education in Canada, to stimulate members’ interest and participation in public affairs, to provide an opportunity for collective action, and to facilitate intellectual and social pursuits among members. The club takes an active interest in the status of women, provides scholarships at the university and high school levels, encourages reading in the formative years, makes charitable donations to support women and children’s services. In 1988 our club changed its name to Canadian Federation of University Women – St. Catharines at the direction of the National Office of CFUW.

Abstract: The aim of this Final Project of Career, Implementation of Virtual Engineering with Joomla!, is to create a web software application where a multidisciplinary engineering project bases on the networking, working groups and the flexible working can be implemented. The networking is the job through the Information Technology and Communication (ITC) where working groups compounded of multidisciplinary and multiracial professions, different religions and located in different time zones are created. The multicultural environment, collaboration, flexibility and to share resources are the order of the day on this kind of groups. The flexibility is the ability to adaptability of workers to the productivity demand, with the trust which is placed on them by supervisor people who wait to receive the work completed in a specific form and date. These workers do not need either constant supervision or a fixed site where to do the job. Everything the workers need is on the network, as the information as the tools, that is why they become teleworkers. These workers demand a high use of their knowledge, so it can not be allowed to become obsolete. This would be a great misfortune. That is why they need to continue learning and knowing the new technologies emerging with the aim of getting new revenues. Workers do an intensive use of the information technology and communication, characterized by continuous innovation and technological change. These workers need a broad social and professional network with great power. This network is important to keep updated with innovations taking place at the companies, to apply for a new job, a new technology course etc.. Thanks to Internet services a bigger number of contacts are provided compared to earlier times. The software application of this project is compounded with enough tools with the aim of the workers can carry out their activity and maintenance of the links on their professional nets.

Automatic grading of programming assignments is an important topic in academic research. It aims at improving the level of feedback given to students and optimizing the professor time. Several researches have reported the development of software tools to support this process. Then, it is helpfulto get a quickly and good sight about their key features. This paper reviews an ample set of tools forautomatic grading of programming assignments. They are divided in those most important mature tools, which have remarkable features; and those built recently, with new features. The review includes the definition and description of key features e.g. supported languages, used technology, infrastructure, etc. The two kinds of tools allow making a temporal comparative analysis. This analysis infrastructure, etc. The two kinds of tools allow making a temporal comparative analysis. This analysis shows good improvements in this research field, these include security, more language support, plagiarism detection, etc. On the other hand, the lack of a grading model for assignments is identified as an important gap in the reviewed tools. Thus, a characterization of evaluation metrics to grade programming assignments is provided as first step to get a model. Finally new paths in this research field are proposed.
