Doping of TiO2 with a suitable metal ion where dopant redox potential couples with that of titanium (Ti4+) and act as catalyst for additional reduction of Ti4+ to Ti2+ (Ti4+ -> Ti3+ -> Ti2+) is envisaged here to enhance lithium storage even higher than one Li/TiO2. Accordingly, 10 atom% Pt ion substituted TiO2, Ti0.9Pt0.1O2 nanocrystallites was synthesized by sonochemical method using diethylenetriamine (DETA) as complexing agent. Powder X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), Rietveld refinement and TEM study reveals that Ti0.9Pt0.1O2 nanocrystallites of similar to 4 nm size crystallize in anatase structure. X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS) study confirms that and both Ti and Pt are in 4+ oxidation state. Due to Pt4+ ion substitution in TiO2, reducibility of TiO2 was enhanced and Ti4+ was reduced up to Ti2+ state via coupling of Pt states (Pt4+/Pt2+/Pt-0) with Ti states (Ti4+/Ti3+/Ti2+). Galvanostatic cycling of Ti0.9Pt0.1O2 against lithium showed very high capacity of 430 mAhg(-1) or exchange of similar to 1.5Li/Ti0.9Pt0.1O2. (C) 2012 The Electrochemical Society. The TiOx thin films were prepared by electron beam evaporation using TiO as the starting material. The effect of the annealing temperature on the optical and electrical properties was investigated. The spectra of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal that Ti in the films mainly exist in the forms of Ti2+ and Ti3+ below 400 degrees C 24h annealing. The charge transfer between different titanium ion contribute greatly to the color, absorption, and electrical resistance of the films. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The atomic structures and electronic properties of small Ti-N (N=2-10) clusters have been studied by using the density-functional theory with a local spin density approximation. We find that the inner-shells (3s3p) of the titanium atom plays an important role in the formation of the small clusters. We have obtained the ground state of titanium clusters, Ti-7 is found to be a magic cluster, which is in good agreement with the experimental results. Starting with Ti-8 cluster some features of the electronic structure of the titanium bulk have been developed. The ionization potentials and magnetic moments for these small titanium clusters are also presented. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics. [S0021- 9606(00)30544-X].

在低能 ( 60~ 360keV)质子注入氘化钛 (Ti2 Hx)、钛 (Ti)、钼底衬钛箔及钼 (Mo)和不锈钢 (SS)等金属样品的实验中 ,观测到了能量分别约为 3 9、5 6和 8 4MeV的带电粒子产物。用符合望远镜和吸收片法进行粒子鉴别的结果表明 :这些带电粒子均具有α粒子特性。 3种α粒子来自质子与不同靶核发生的垒下核反应。其中 ,能量为 3 9MeV的α粒子具有很高的产额 ,其对应核反应的准激发函数曲线在 150~ 330keV能区内 ,随入射质子能量增大呈指数增长趋势。上述反应产物可能源于11N( p ,α) 12 C ,11B( p ,α) 8Be和7Li( p ,α) 4 He等核反应。但相关靶核的来源仍有待解释。利用扫描电子显微镜观测到有微球状的奇异形貌

The catalyst structure of Ti(OBu)4-AlEt3 at different Al/Ti ratios before and after heat aging has been investigated from the data of UV, GC-MS, ESR and C-13 NMR spectra. The complex compounds formed by HTiEt2 and AlEt2(OBu) exist mainly in the catalyst solution, and no -OBu ligands linking with Ti atoms can be found at an Al/Ti ratio of four before heat aging. Many kinds of catalytic species with different size are formed after heat aging the catalyst at 110-degrees-C for 2 h. Dehydrogenation, accompanied by the valence change from Ti3+ to Ti2+, is observed during the aging process of the catalyst.

The corrosion behaviour of titanium substance and the XPS characterization of Ti surface in the H2C2O4 solution have been first studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, The experimental results show that there am mile Ti-2 and Ti2+ on sample surface in 10% H2C2O4 solution for two boars corrosion at 80 degrees C, but if corrosion is extended to 4 hones, the surface composition is mainly TiO2 with a small amount of Ti2+. This result corresponds to the structure of TiH1.642 composion in sample surface found by XRD analysis. Since bath TiO2 and the surface coating RuO2 are of Gald-Redstone structure, therefore electrode materials of Ti-Ru are stable in chemical industry.

Point defects in metal oxides such as TiO2 are key to their applications in numerous technologies. The investigation of thermally induced nonstoichiometry in TiO2 is complicated by the difficulties in preparing and determining a desired degree of nonstoichiometry. We study controlled self-doping of TiO2 by adsorption of 1/8 and 1/16 monolayer Ti at the (110) surface using a combination of experimental and computational approaches to unravel the details of the adsorption process and the oxidation state of Ti. Upon adsorption of Ti, x-ray and ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (XPS and UPS) show formation of reduced Ti. Comparison of pure density functional theory (DFT) with experiment shows that pure DFT provides an inconsistent description of the electronic structure. To surmount this difficulty, we apply DFT corrected for on-site Coulomb interaction (DFT+U) to describe reduced Ti ions. The optimal value of U is 3 eV, determined from comparison of the computed Ti 3d electronic density of states with the UPS data. DFT+U and UPS show the appearance of a Ti 3d adsorbate-induced state at 1.3 eV above the valence band and 1.0 eV below the conduction band. The computations show that the adsorbed Ti atom is oxidized to Ti2+ and a fivefold coordinated surface Ti atom is reduced to Ti3+, while the remaining electron is distributed among other surface Ti atoms. The UPS data are best fitted with reduced Ti2+ and Ti3+ ions. These results demonstrate that the complexity of doped metal oxides is best understood with a combination of experiment and appropriate computations.
